Title: Today's Best wallet
Post by: Gatorelf on January 06, 2017, 01:19:38 AM
I got a wallet from coinbase as I saw some where it was rated the best. I notice every time I buy some BTC there is a small transaction fee like $2. I also notice the price for BTC always seems to be $15 to $20 higher than what its actually trading at.

My questions are, is this typical of all wallets?
Also I've never received BTC is there incoming fee's?

Coinbase is an exchange that offers a wallet to do your transactions, there are many wallets, some offer the ability to buy bitcoin through them but most are just a way to store your bitcoin, if you want a full node then bitcoin core is the best, if you want a light wallet, I like electrum.

Coinbase is an Exchange, that also has a wallet.
The wallet service they maintain is very different from most wallets.
Most wallets are just programs to hold your privatekeys/addresses, not to trade or buy/sell.

With Bitcoin, the only fee is the miner's fee for being placed within a block, and that is paid by the sender.

Yeah it's typical of all places that you buy bitcoin from, its a premium above the spot price that gives them some profit.  Do you realise that by keeping bitcoin at Coinbase you are keeping it in their wallet not yours ?  they can decide if you get it or not.  research paper wallets (which are free, bitaddress.org)  or hardware wallets (Trezor, ledgerwallet, keepkey) to secure your own bitcoin (your wallet)

Appreciate the info guys, I do have another wallet ( Blockchaine ) which I have never used.. I was thinking I would buy at coinbase and send to my phone wallet...  didnt want to get fee'd to death though ya know lol.  I also have several collectible wallets but think I will leave them be.

Already you've known all about the worthy wallets, as well you've concluded of leaving most of the wallets for your goodness. Better if you have the access try to remove the thread. If you go through the forum itself you can get more suggestions regarding wallets and its security features.

Coinbase is a pretty good exchange, but I don't use it because they seem to flex their power a bit too much for my liking a lot of the time, and that's something I don't want to have to deal with in the future.

As for the value being higher, yeah, it's a pretty good market for selling, and probably exceptional overall for what it provides.

Not typical of all wallets, no incoming fees that you pay for. Only the sender ever pays a transaction fee.

Xapo is my favorite, fees are 5 USD, but close to the market price is what you pay. They also have debit card solutions and vault access.

The main thing oth web or virtual wallets is security, but you may come across these problems even with offline or backing up desktop wallets. Although CoinBase is one of the top, Xapo seems to have increased protection for every user.

The biggest names out there are Block.io, Xapo & CoinBase as well as places like Local Bitcoins (which shouldn't be used as a wallet in higher volumes.)

Every wallet has his advantages and disadvantages.
There are no incoming fees.
About the phenomenon was happening with your wallet. totally it's auto calculation for your btc. sometimes if the price will be increasing and your bitcoin will try to match the current price of bitcoin was increasing.

I think many of you  might heard about blockchain, info also provide wallet services. But no one appreciating blockchain.info wallet services.

I am user of this wallet since from long time. And this is the best for everyone.

Blockchain.info wallet is the only wallet service offers you private keys. Coinbase, xapo or many other wallet services just only offer platform to buy/sell BTC, dont offer private keys for your wallet. And in future if you don't know privatekeys of wallet you are using then its quite risky.

i just want to add that there is nothing called best wallet, there are only bitcoin wallets (https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet) each of which have some pros and cons and you have to find out all about them and then choose a wallet to use.
for example of these pros and cons, paper wallet is the safest since it is cold storage and is kept without internet connection but it is hard to spend from it.

The current price in coinbase may differ to what the btcs current price in other exchanges. That 2$ fee charged from your transaction is for the purchase not an incomming transaction fee.

No. Coinbase is an exchange wallet. It differs functionality to other clients like a desktop wallet, hardware wallet, paper wallet, web wallets. etc.

No. Fee is only charged upon sending a transaction. The sender always shoulder the fee and not the receiver.

IMO

If you wanna use desktop wallet use Multibit HD Desktop Wallet or Copay Chrome App and if you want an wallet in ur phone Mycelium is good.

Reason to recommend you this wallet is because all of them supports Trezor which the most secured Hardware Wallet for Bitcoin.

This post answer all the queries of OP which is really helpful on clearing up those questions.I agree coinbase is just an exchange wallet therefore expect the rates would really be different among others not only on coinbase but all exchanges they really differ on bitcoin rates which you could able to see on your own eyes when you try to look at them.

Unlike the fiat currencies, there is no centralized exchange rate for Bitcoin. So the exchange rate very from one exchange to the other, depending upon the demand-supply equilibrium. The exchange rates in Coinbase and Bitstamp will be on average some $15 to $25 higher than that in BTC-e.

I personally use Blockchain.info. It is a famous wallet provider. Their system seems secure and they have several options to secure your wallet. It is one of the best online wallets.
Site : www.blockcahin.info (http://www.blockcahin.info)
There is no best wallet. It depends on your preferences and the options provided by the provider.

Thanks all thats a lot of good info, I'll be moving some BTC to my other wallet today. Just playing around with small amounts ( under $100) till i get use to it all. I'm sure in the comings months/years there will be new services to look at and try. Main thing was I wanted to be able to learn all I can and pass that along to friends and family in the future.

great forum :)

Coinbase is basically a an exchange which also provides you with a wallet to trade your BTC.

I still use blockchain as my primary wallet because its fast, simple and has nice security features.

Mycelium is one of the best mobile wallets at the moment.

And I think the bst wallet for PC or computer is blockchain because for newbies its safe and quick while for experienced people its safe in fact very safe and also it has ability to provide private key so no possible scams also.

Well its good that you use blockchain , but i suppose we were living in the dark,
We didnt even know what block chain wallet is.
Thanks for using your precious time , sharing this valuable information about that wallet.
 >:( Well seeing your last posts i can see how good posts you make (Sarcasm).
Now i guess you might know why it is a good wallet. Not just because its holds money in that ,
But its is much easier than other wallets to use. Moreover it is the most trusted wallet by far.
Sending and receiving money is also done efficiently , making it the best wallet.

I do not use online wallets. I use a desktop software to dont pay extra for my payments. I would recommend the electrum wallet for this. You only pay standard fee values in the Electrum wallet.
