Founded by Company0 (btcsuite dev team that is well known/respected in the bitcoin space), Decred is a Decentralized autonomous organization that few people know about and even fewer understand.  

It is written from scratch in Golang and aims to solve many of the problems plaguing bitcoin today, such as consensus and governance.  Check out the chart below for more information on why I think Decred is THE hottest altcoin investment of 2017.

First time in the history of Decred that my script has ever thrown an "UP", coupled with the 2nd higest 3D bull trading volume in the history of Decred.  Things are looking good.

I can agree with dcr being a sleeping giant, seemingly poised for a big move in 2017. Skilled, innovative devs and only 3.5M coins currently in circulation. Not to mention, a nice community is coming together as well!  

I think entrenched somewhere in region of one dollar, maybe even more, but big inflation rate gradually reduce price.

It got as nice name. I can't make a comment on its technical aspects since I am not a learned man on that lol. But I do hope this coin will stay and can even be more successful after some months and years.

This is a nice thread indeed! It was started when DCR  was 0.00039 BTC and now it's 0.00095. I hope people who saw this earlier made some money on trading. Also I like the videos, they look very professional.

DCR today one of the most undervalued coins. I think 2017 will show its real place in the world of crypto currencies.

Inferring solely from your excitement about their roadmap I'd deduce you've been around even less, but seeing you registered at the media boom right after 2013 ATH I am baffled.

As I said, fundamentals don't matter, keep shilling and you will surely double your 1 BTC to 2 one day.

If you refer to when I started this thread, you will actually see that my 1 bitcoin is now worth more than 2.  ;D

Just a matter of getting it out of the way but the term "sleeping giant" to me is still only applicable to bitcoin itself... but we can argue among the alts if we prefer...

So, what have I missed? Was it over 0.0015 at least one minute? Because from what I see on Yobit DCR was 0.0014 max during the pump, but maybe there are other exchanges where it is listed.

Went from 0.0005 BTC to 0.0015 BTC during 10 days period and now going down. Listed on Bittrex as well.

I am looking forward to February 7, as a new reference point in the history of the coin and the emergence of new great wallet features which will lead to use Decred to a new level of convenience and add the application to the 'real' world. I'm excited for upcoming Decreed news!

All I see is so much hype and no definite plans on how to bring the platform forward towards mass adoption and real economic sustainability. I may have missed it so forgive me. I would like to see it and ask more questions and find out if Decred's plans are realistic.

The dev team behind Decred is very well funded through Company0 and well known for their development of BTCSuite for bitcoin. 

"Use Cases" are coming, but hard fork voting is the number 1 focus at the moment.  This is scheduled for implementation on February 7 and represents years of work. 

Decred uses something called PoA to accomplish this (Proof of Activity). 

Decred has just hired a full team of marketers, document creators, community developers, and more.  2017 will be back to back to back releases, use cases, changes implemented through hard fork voting, etc...

Ok it looks like they have the necessary parts in place to move the platform forward. We as potential buyers or investors of your cryptocoin should still remain skeptical and should never stop questioning, inspecting and gaining information. There is too much scams that already have occurred and we need to protect ourselves.

I wouldn't touch this now. There are better coins to put your money into. I don't think this one will die either. Instead I think it will go down in price and find a floor. When that floor is reached it would be a good bet to buy some. Who knows what the future holds. If you want to gamble on altcoins then this one is safer than most.

Precisely why I'm telling them to stay away. Severe 'bumps' are called 'pumps' where only pumpers gain and others lose.
And if price 'bumps' was the only consideration, there are many coins which have better 'bumps'.

Decred will only go down in long run.

The price is likely to rise in the coming days and Decred will continue to gain more and more popularity and expand community. He is right, people here are forgetting that the dev hold 800k coin that will be dumped at will, and all the pos earning that can be dumped easily, there are many people with 50k decred that are running their pos wallet and generate decred virtually for free, the pos system allow the early adopter to be even richer easily, i don't like it

Decred is presenting at Coinbase in early March!  Great news!

I have some Decred for quite a while before but I just currently bought quite a bit more. Currently heard about the news about the Decred Presentation on Coinbase. On point, I'm investing quite a bit. On par with Monero for future growth. Easily worth $10 or $20+ per coin after the news and speculating for the future. Great to hear support from Charlie Lee too.

Look at the market cap and the USD price.  Both made all time highs.

I bought 110 decreds on january 15 2017 the price was  only 0.40 cents, I spent only 44.00 dlls and now the price is 2.75 and my earnings are 302 dlls 700% more  really amazing.

I really believe that the value can get close to the value of Monero.

I think that during this year, it may happen that we will achieve the value of Monero. The Decred development team is working ahead of schedule, respectively, many of the most important technological innovations will come much sooner, leading to a more rapid growth and increase in popularity.

A lot has happened in the past several weeks since the 0.7.0 release of Decred. On the valuation front, the exchange rate has gone up substantially from a low of approximately USD 0.43 on December 28th to an all-time-high of USD 3.31 on February 5th, which has since settled around USD 2.50. The number of downloads of binaries from GitHub for the 0.7.0 release has gone up by a factor of 5 or more, and we have a substantially larger number of users in Slack and other chat channels. This substantial improvement in valuation, exposure and community engagement is due mainly to our recent work with several marketing contractors via the dev org, DHG, which I will say more about below.

Beyond matters related to Decred's valuation, there has been substantial progress on several of our software projects and with their documentation. The bulk of the code needed to enable hard fork voting has been completed, and it will be demonstrated live on testnet over the next few weeks, via a corresponding website that shows its progress. A substantial design overhaul has been completed during the past several months, which includes a new logo and changes to every project website. decrediton, the cross platform GUI, has made a huge amount of progress, going from an alpha project to a solid beta in a single release. Paymetheus, the native Windows wallet, now uses the new stakepool API integration to simplify setting up ticket buying with a stakepool. Several additions and updates have been made to the Decred documentation site by documentation contractors. More detailed descriptions of our progress can be found below.

Marketing, Documentation and Development Contractors

Per the recent 2017 Decred Roadmap, a deliverables-driven RFP process did not end up working out very well, so we have since changed our RFP process to be need-driven by domain. The dev org, DHG, has contracted 5 people to do marketing, 2 to do documentation and 3 to do development work. So far, this arrangement is working out very well and has led to substantial progress on the marketing and documentation fronts.

The marketing contractors have met with considerable success in increasing awareness, engagement and generally creating demand for decred. The puzzles created by @coin_artist have been particularly effective at drawing new users to our Slack channels and creating a general buzz about Decred. The efforts of @Daniel, @Emilio Mann, @Tivra and @Dyrk have served to grow our community, engage new users, create additional demand, support regional markets and broaden our social media support. Overall, this marketing work has been very successful to date.

The documentation and development contractors have started doing work more recently, so they haven't had as much time as the marketing contractors to get their deliverables flowing. @gratefulcheddar and @Shadowlance have been pushing out a lot of new and updated documentation over the past few weeks, and their output should become much more apparent over the next few months as they shore up the Decred documentation. @karamble has pushed out a lot of web development work in the past couple weeks, which has made an otherwise monolithic release much more manageable. @raedah has submitted several pull requests that improve dcrwallet's ticketbuyer, which should lead to improvements in the fee market for tickets. We expect the contributions from our documentation and development contractors to become more apparent in the coming months.

Substantial Design Update

A design overhaul of Decred was initiated in RFP-7 several months ago with @linnutee, and it is being brought to completion with the 0.8.0 release. The work includes a new logo, design updates for every project website and a branding package for other Decred-related projects to use. As you can imagine, updating every website the project maintains is a pretty daunting task, so beyond @linnutee and sander doing all the design and coding, we had @karamble integrate and audit their work, and @Shadowlance contributed text copy in several places.

Hard Fork Voting Demo

While it's certainly less tangible than a surge in the exchange rate, the core of Decred is based around decentralization as a process, and the first major step in that process, hard fork voting, has been prepared for a demo on testnet. Stakeholders will soon have the ability to vote on defined issues in dcrwallet, and this will allow Decred to episodically hard fork based on how its stakeholders vote. If 75% or more of the stakeholders vote “yes” for a given issue during a voting period, it will go into effect approximately 4 weeks later (on mainnet), and this includes “hard fork” consensus changes. Getting this code ready has been particularly challenging since it is all consensus-related code, which is notoriously unforgiving when it comes to bugs.

The testnet demo has an accompanying webpage that allows users to watch each step in the voting process occur. We chose to have a single issue for the demo, to increase the block size from 1 MiB to 1.25 MB, and we felt this was appropriate since the block size has been so contentious for Bitcoin. There are 3 stages to hard fork voting, which is reflected on the demo website, and this process draws from some parts of the BIP0009 soft fork process from Bitcoin. First, Proof-of-Work miners must update their dcrds to the latest release until a threshold percentage, 75% in the case of testnet, of blocks in a rolling window show the new block version in their header. Second, Proof-of-Stake miners, i.e. stakeholders, must update their voting wallets to the latest release of dcrwallet until a threshold percentage, 75% for testnet, of votes in blocks in a fixed window show the new vote version. At the end of the first interval with 75% or greater support for the new vote version, the stake version is incremented to the new version and a voting period begins. Once a voting period comes to an end, any issues that receive 75% or greater 'yes' votes are considered complete and will become active after a lock-in period. Issues that receive 75% or greater 'no' votes are considered dead and will not be voted on further. If an issue does not receive a 75% or greater vote either direction, the issue remains up for voting in future voting periods until an expiration time is reached. The process of upgrading PoW miners, PoS miners and voting will occur on an ongoing episodic basis and allow Decred's consensus code to evolve over time, according to the will of its stakeholders. We estimate that it will take 3-6 weeks for the testnet demo to have the block size increase voted in and for the hard fork to occur, so users can stop by and check the progress on the webpage.

Major GUI Wallet Progress

Until this release, only Windows users had the option of running a self-contained GUI wallet with Paymetheus, so we are pleased to announce that decrediton, a cross platform GUI wallet, is ready for use on Linux and OS X. decrediton now supports all the basic wallet functions and delivers most of what users would expect a GUI wallet: it is simple to install, has a graphical setup wizard, can restore from existing wallet seeds, and can send and receive payments. Considering that the 0.7.0 release of decrediton was in a very much “alpha” state, this release constitutes a huge leap forwards in terms of improved user experience.

Beyond the decrediton progress, Paymetheus has added support for a new stake pool integration API, which simplifies the process of using a stake pool with Paymetheus. Once a user has registered an account at a stake pool, they can copy an API key from their stake pool login into Paymetheus, and then Paymetheus handles the rest of the stake pool setup. Prior to adding this API to stake pools, the user would have to generate a pubkey, copy and paste it to the stakepool, hit a button, and then copy and paste the multisig address back into Paymetheus. We had originally wanted to make even signup for a stake pool possible via this API, however, this created an obvious Denial-of-Service vector and had to be removed. The new process for using a stake pool is much less error prone and avoids confusion on part of users, so it is a notable improvement.

By the next release, both Paymetheus and decrediton will support automatic ticket buying and have an interface for users to set their voting preferences. Between this release and the next, we will make minor releases that include these new features in the GUI wallets, so that users can test them and give us feedback. We will announce these minor releases and provide updated binaries to make it easy for everyone to test out the new features as they are added.

Public keys

The file cmd/dcrinstall/pubkey.go contains the decred public key which is used to check the signed manifest in the release. You can compare the contents of this file to what you get from a keyserver to confirm that dcrinstaller is using the proper key.

why? they make their coins for free, what is your point toward the possibility that they have any reason to hold their coin? maybe only speculation right? this is not sufficient for them to hold, i think here there are a bunch of bagholder that were pissed of from the dump that happened when decred was at 600k satoshi and now only 250k, i can't see this coin reaching monero or other, not enough features

Just because they are free doesn't mean they will sell it at $0.5 when the potential is $5.0. I'm one of the very early PoS miner and have quite a substantial amount of return when the reward was great back then. Am i going to sell it? Nope, not a single one.

Will $10 be the top? It's a pretty round number, but I think it can go even higher. Maybe it's related to its governance model which contrasts sharply with Bitcoin's (chaos, forking, polarization) but also with Ethereum's (centralized).

Devs are contractually obligated to hold all coins for two years... that period of time has not expired.  They will gain access to their coins in about 11 months from now.

They split the premine with the community to encourage early adoption... In the end, it will only be < 5% of the supply.

Aside from this fact, they are well known / respected for their long work history in the bitcoin community.  If you think these guys care about 8k btc, think again.  They are early adopters ;)

What makes you think that they will dump?  I would think they will stake their coins and use the interest to pay back Company0 for the 60-70kusd per month they pay to the developers to work on Decred full time.

I've told you all to buy the dips this entire time.  This time is no different.  My best advice is to buy each dip with a percentage of your capital (not all in).  That way, if it goes lower, you can buy that dip too (averaging down)

No one knows what price it will stabilize on.  I feel like .01 will act as strong psychological support... .012 should act as technical support. 

But no one knows to be totally honest with you.  That's why i recommend averaging down.

I am not sure what happened to XBC. It went up more than 10 times in a day.

Of course there is. Price is stabilizing around 0.012 for now. It's normal after this long bullish run from 2usd the 2/3 months ago and the pump from the weekend. Lets wait for the V1 release next months, we will see a long run again. There is a low supply and amazing solution which is decentralized governance in it (that could resolve the problem that bitcoin has). It can be huge, its only the beginning. Believe me.

This is why i recommended averaging down.  No one can call bottom / top.

DCR had a huge run up in the last few months. It is a quality coin that will do well over the long run, but it is hard to pick the future.

I don’t believe in this coin at all. It had been inactive for a long period. It would be really tough for him to surpass other active coins especially bitcoins. I don’t think so it is justifiable even to call decred ‘a sleeping giant’. It has got nothing to produce great profit in the coming years.

When the topic was created (roughly January), it was worth 0.50$-ish... for this reason it WAS CALLED a sleeping giant, now it's kind of awake, but you have to be patient. Inactive? No. Great profits? I think so, but you're free to speculate on what you want.

I'm considering this level 0.0012 as good entry point in RADS, it was not comfortable for me to buy yesterday, but now I'm buying more and sure it will gain 10x this year. I hope RADS will be the best gainer of 2017!

I took the tour on Decred site and understoon almost nothing. Why is it better than any other cryptocurrency? Why should I use DCR for transfering funds? I can use whatever currency I want, LTC, BTS, etc. I just don't see what is DCR edge over others...?

It is not a sleeping giant at all. The 2017 is about to end and still this giant is sleeping. When it is going to wake up? The only giant of the crypto world is bitcoin and nothing else can replace it. Bitcoins are unbeatable no matter how much you pump any other coin.

Maybe, but I am hedging my bets, and not all altcoins are tying to bitcoin anyway. Certainly decred is but, RADS, SC, FCT, GAME, KMD, NEO... are all trying to do something else with the blockchain.

Well he tells a few friends and helps out the RADS community. But above all you should do you due diligence before jumping in. In some ways he got lucky with DCR and SC as they whole crypto market rose quite a bit in the spring.

Decreed was airdrop before and many have gotten over 1 BTC as a reward for participating.

All the people that said this is a "pump and dump" and said this coin is useless are all quiet now. You just missed the biggest opportunity of your pathetic lives. Keep your "pumps and dumps" and "this coin is utter bullshit" comments to yourself cause your butthurt now. Look at what price this coin started and where it is now. All those new people should know that Decred was an airdropped coin. This means that there is heavy sell pressure on it during bear sentiments. But I am still carrying my airdrop bags. But would not buy at these prices.
