I'm would start in mining with a buddy but we don't know which hardware choose, We would run with two HD5850 then four HD5850 in few month so there is the hardware that we have in our mind : - MotherBoard : http://www.topachat.com/pages/detail2_cat_est_micro_puis_rubrique_est_w_cm_am3_puis_ref_est_in10045376.html It's have two Pcie x16 and two pcie x1 - CPU : I don't know which CPU i have to use, a cheap sempron is enough ? - Ram : I'll take 2go of the memory of my home pc. It's this memory http://www.topachat.com/pages/detail2_cat_est_micro_puis_rubrique_est_wme_ddr3_puis_ref_est_in10036098.html - HDD : We have a little old hdd but we don't know if it's degrade the rate while the mining. - PSU : We have some chinese PSU whose make 480W each but because it's chinese it may be 250W so for the moment we will use one PSU per HD5850 and one PSU for the motherboard - OS : What is the best ? Debian is good ? and I want make a ssh access to be able to reboot the rig from my home. Also I've view that we can convert pcie x1 into pcie x16 with a cable like this : https://cablesaurus.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=10&zenid=bf85fba298982c5e0e2cd440abd2f240 but I don't know if it's work and if it's difficult someone could explain me ? The AMD Sempron 140 is recommended a lot. A lot of people downclock their CPU to conserve power.
RAM : 1 GB is enough for Linux, for Windows 2 GB is the way to go. Get the least amount of sticks as possible. HDD : Go cheap and small here. If you can get a cheap 30 GB SDD, do it since it's more power efficient. OS : I prefer Ubuntu if you wanted to go Linux as a lot of tutorials and drivers are geared for this Linux distro. It reassures me that I can use low cost materiel for HDD, CPU and ram. For linux I used to use ubuntu so if I must get this OS I think that it will not be difficult. The motherboard you chose should be fine if you wanted to add a 3rd and 4th card later. The PCIe 1x to 16x converter is just that, the cable plugs into your 1x slot, then on the other end, it has a slot for you to plug your 16x card into. Ok thank you :) just to be sure somebody else could confirm ? and rummaging through my stuff I've found an old pc (celeron 2,x gHz, HDD 80GB, 1,25 DDR), am I use the celeron and a motherboard whose accept it on our rig ? |
