How bad is the burning smell of electronics for your health.  Obviously the miner I have going makes a bit of this smell.  I live currently in a small apartment and the smell normally predominates the entire apartment. 

Any suggestions?

my temps are actually around 70 C consistantly with 3 7950s.  That seems fine.  Its just a small apartment, its very light thought I would just ask the question.

Don't worry. Burning plastics only release highly toxic, cancerogeneous and acidic cyanocompounds and dioxines.

First, there are two "smells" associated with electronics. The acrid burning smell when they get too hot is associated with as the previous post said all kinds of not good for you stuff. The other more common smell they put off when running at normal temps is actually ozone which is again, no bueno. Ozone belongs in the ozone layer not at ground level. The real answer here is if you are mining in a small space you need an enclosure around your rig and a vent-fan like you see in bathrooms with flex vent to send the hot, bad air outside your apartment just like your clothes dryer does.

can anyone suggest a good case for this?  i currently have my rig in a laundry basket, which i am strangely proud of lol, but would definitely invest ina case that would keep me healthier and the cards at the same temp if possible

just of curiosity, how fast your vents are running and which card do you have?

I have Sapphire with Boost but the problem is I can't undervolt it under linux, thats why my cards gets very hot. Usually its around

74.0 C  F: 81% (3387 RPM)  E: 1025 MHz  M: 1420 Mhz  V: 1.250V  A: 64% P: 0% I: 17 - 530 Kh/s

I could get 565 Kh/s with Intensity 20 but then fun has to run at 85-90% to cool it around 75 C that is my threshold. I have a lucky situation that my rig is inside cooled room where AC is running at 25C.

I have basically the same overclock as you, I have MSI afterburner running the fans near to 100 though :/

Is it really being ozone being released?  Ozone coming from a high voltage spark?

It's toxic. Open a window and turn on a fan. Not worth getting some off-the-wall cancer because you want to mine a few bitcoins!

If I were you I would play with undervolting the GPU (easier in Windows), that should lower
the both the power consumption and GPU temp., therefore fans won't run 100%, and there
should be significantly less "burned" plastic smell.

Thanks for this post, I will change my rig with those specifics in mind.  I have them intentionally running near 100 as I thought, higher fan speed, better cooling etc. I'll just move the rig near a window and build some kind of vent to send the flow out the window.  Thanks!

It's the smell of human dander dust cooking at 80 degrees.

I also have this smell thats why I've moved my rig into the laundry room where there are windows and ample space and ventilation.

Well i went to home depot sat a fan and a laundry vent going out my window on top of my miner.  My girlfriend hates it but oh well lol.  I don't seem to smell the "burning"/ozone smell, but I feel a bit paranoid about it now, and it could possibly be very faint.  Any idea how much of this smell can affect you?

I don't believe it gives cancer, but some effects on the central nervous system: Alzheimer, parkinson, Tourette, Huntington...

Don't know your, but my health is much more important than a couple of bitcoins.
Put the PC case near an open windows, and reduce voltage to reduce temperature.
