Title: [Interest Check] - Most popular exchange
Post by: deisik on January 15, 2017, 06:59:37 PM
For over two years I've been trading through exchange api's (both with bots and manually). Previously, I traded at Cryptsy, Bter and Bitfinex (yeah, I know they all got hacked or scammed eventually, but I'm not involved in that). Right now I'm testing a frontend for btc-e and one other small exchange. I'm using a custom built trading platform which also includes frontends to fiat exchanges (through unified interface), data import functions, and blocks for analyzing currency options and futures. Later I'm removing all this unneeded functionality and releasing this platform as an open-source project (likely in a month or two). And I want to know which is the most popular exchange that you would like to see a frontend to (apart from already mentioned), so don't hesitate to cast your vote (I will make it)...

If I missed some exchange, let me know

Yobit is not that known to people , some exchanges are country restricted like Kraken . So I suggest going with Poloniex as Its the most used one with the highest trading volumes (If we exclude chinese exchanges).

I hope poloniex is best option when compared with other exchanges you listed here, because poloniex has great feature with larger volumes, may be not only me many people who are showing lot interest towards poloniex because of most of the coins listed here are with some innovative thought, so there is some chances where we can make some profits through with this exchange.

Okay, I will look into the Poloniex api

In about a week I'm going to make a Windows binary prerelease (I'm developing on Linux primarily) for testing purposes (things seem to be going pretty well). Ultimately, I'm going to host the project at GitHub, but which is the best way of giving people access to a binary version? This is the first time I would be releasing anything in this manner, so I would like to know about possible caveats as well as best practices

Well , I don't think there is a better place then Github for an open source project . Just make sure to make a thread on the forums (Project development section) to keep everyone updated too. If I may ask too , what programming language are you going to use in this case ?

I also think of GitHub as the best place for such a project

Does the Project development section have anything to do with trading platforms and bots? I thought it is more related to Bitcoin development as such rather than trading systems (will look into this later). I'm using C++ on Qt framework, so it can be run both in Windows and Linux with minor changes

Well, it seems to be the right time to show something working (wtf, first public build)

Here's the link to GitHub repository: https://github.com/deisikoin/beTrader (https://github.com/deisikoin/beTrader)

The file by the link is a self-extracting 7Zip archive (there shouldn't be any viruses but be warned). I don't have a separate Windows machine so I had to build the executable under VmWare (my main platform is Linux). The archive includes all required Qt libraries. Once started, the program creates a file called hive in the working directory. This file is used for storing trade history as well as access keys. The keys are presently stored unencrypted (I will add password encryption in the next build). I use a custom file engine (something like no-SQL database) which is built in (so there is no need for an external DBMS)

I dubbed this platform BeTrader (or beTrader) but if you have a better name, you are welcome. Right now I enabled only one interface to Exmo exchange since I want to hear comments about overall performance and start small while slowly building momentum and user base around this platform. Other interfaces are already there as well as basic bot functionality (the interfaces need some integration since they are mostly sharing the same codebase). I will export an interface to bot functionality later so that anyone could build custom bots once the interface gets more or less polished (together with the source code)

You don't need to register with the exchange and enter your access keys (unless you want to actually try trading there). Just hit the Gear button and you should see the deals in the main pane

I use this platform myself since it allows processing multiple orders at once, both deleting and adding orders (e.g. when you want to add a few orders at different prices), which is impossible when using regular web interface (and it works faster at that). If you want to see orderbooks, double click the row in the Markets table

Okay, I've added Poloniex to my project

The terminal is available over the following link: https://github.com/deisikoin/beTrader

I have also added Bitfinex trading api and removed Btc-e as well as Exmo exchanges (I will likely add Exmo later when things clear up a little). Now I'm going to start working on trading bots (I already have a simple bot, which I heavily used at Bitfinex and Bter in the past), so if anyone is interested in that (or in the platform itself), let me know and I will start a separate thread in the Project development section about this terminal and its (future) bots

I vote for Kraken (when it works properly ::)) The reason is that I usually like simple things straight to the point, without any fancy stuff added to disturb me. If you compare with Bittrex half of your screen is filled with ugly graph, I feel me closed in a box and facing problem to breath

I think bittrex is a best choice. It's simple, stable and it has all new coins after ICO stage. They are really popular cause tons of altcoins. If I want to buy some forks I will go on bittrex I think..
I could recommend Poloniex but... I have left it cause of really slow support and lags
