Title: Xilinx FPGA Post by: Epicblood on April 13, 2013, 06:42:22 AM Hey all,
Tomorrow I will be going to Xilinx HQ and was told I could get an FPGA (maybe multiples) for free (know a guy). Out of all the ones they have, which would be best/easiest to set up a miner on? Title: Re: Xilinx FPGA Post by: pheaonix on April 13, 2013, 06:58:44 AM i am not certain, but i have the day off, and will research the crap out of this if you ship one to me :D

They are expensive though - like $150-$200.
Less logic elements is still good though - it means you can do less per clock (less MH/s), but still good. Title: Re: Xilinx FPGA Post by: pheaonix on April 13, 2013, 08:05:22 AM i found a neat little chart
Virtex-7: $30000 / 1600 MHh/s = $18.75 / MHh/s Spartan-6: $170 / 125 MH/s = $1.36 / MHh/s Kintexes-7: $1200 / 1000 MH/s = $1.2 / MHh/s those are the prices and hashes of the chips that would do well for btc mining i think best of luck sir, happy hunting and have fun while you are there! while you are there, they likely know the right people that can get ASIC chips to us the fastest - you should tell your friend that and let him know how much we are all prepared to dish out for a good product :P let us know whatcha get! KC705 dev boards AC701 dev boards Title: Re: Xilinx FPGA Post by: Epicblood on April 13, 2013, 03:41:32 PM i found a neat little chart Virtex-7: $30000 / 1600 MHh/s = $18.75 / MHh/s Spartan-6: $170 / 125 MH/s = $1.36 / MHh/s Kintexes-7: $1200 / 1000 MH/s = $1.2 / MHh/s those are the prices and hashes of the chips that would do well for btc mining i think best of luck sir, happy hunting and have fun while you are there! while you are there, they likely know the right people that can get ASIC chips to us the fastest - you should tell your friend that and let him know how much we are all prepared to dish out for a good product :P let us know whatcha get! Guess I'll try and get a virtex-7 then :) And I'll try and find someone who knows xD I know that the guy I know doesn't even know what BTC is xD I'm sure some of the actual programmers/designers there know though xD Title: Re: Xilinx FPGA Post by: Enigma81 on April 13, 2013, 08:27:26 PM Hey all, Tomorrow I will be going to Xilinx HQ and was told I could get an FPGA (maybe multiples) for free (know a guy). Spartan-6 XC6SLX150 Good for 250 MH/s Software already written Fairly easy PCB layout (Compared to Virtex) Cheap enough ($150) that they might actually give you a few. Title: Re: Xilinx FPGA Post by: Epicblood on April 14, 2013, 02:37:44 AM Ended up getting an ML605 because they had a few of those laying around, and I want to learn verilog a bit first before moving to the bigger boards like the 707
Title: Re: Xilinx FPGA Post by: Epicblood on April 14, 2013, 02:39:30 AM Also saw a few of these,
Could these be used to mine? http://www.em.avnet.com/en-us/design/drc/Pages/Xilinx-Spartan-6-FPGA-LX9-MicroBoard.aspx Title: Re: Xilinx FPGA Post by: segfault88 on April 14, 2013, 03:21:52 AM Sweet score, that's a pretty expensive kit!
Probably possible to fit a miner in the microboard - the chip (XC6SLX9-2CSG324C) has 9152 Logic Elements/Cells versus the 150K in the common miner chips. But you can't complain with free. ML605 will still get a few hashes. Did they give you software as well? It was cool xDsaw some of the stuff they put their FPGAs in, got to visit the super secret dev lab had cake. Title: Re: Xilinx FPGA Post by: Bicknellski on April 14, 2013, 07:49:10 AM Had CAKE!
Awesome. Title: Re: Xilinx FPGA Post by: Khertan on April 14, 2013, 08:42:33 AM Sweet score, that's a pretty expensive kit! Indeed a with rolled miner 5 loop it s around 8k lut ... but do not expect more than 50mhs / 64 rounds ... = less than a MH/s :) |
