Title: Altcoin mining value
Post by: 64dimensions on January 16, 2017, 02:16:14 PM
I didn't think it was possible, but it appears as though at least for now, directly mining BTC is turning into a bit of a suckers game for the small miner compared to Altcoin mining.

Using an arbitrary metric, the amount of hardware it takes to net $5 USD per day (this is about what a 6 card rig would do), a used S9 costs about somewhere between 1.5X to 2X of what an equivalent gpu setup does.

This is ironic, given the past constant snark and smack directed towards altcoins. Altcoin mining at least for the past year and for right now has many advantages, not the least being multiple, competitive, high quality suppliers.

Where do you see "value" in mining sh1tcoins?

Have you not seen the decline in profit as more people switch over from mining bitcoins to altcoins? Ether mining has risen to double the hashrate over the last month, same with zec and monero. As the trend continues, you will start losing money mining sh!tcoins.

one s9 cost 2k against a 6 x 480 rig which cost 1600, but the 6 gpu rig can only reach 0.008 per day while the s9 0.01 with higher consumption, around double of the gpu rig
