Title: New Bitcoin Survey - heir of the Simulacrum one
Post by: Bitcoin Survey on January 17, 2017, 04:49:01 PM
Hi Everybody,

I am an university student and for my organizational behaviour course I need some data about the bitcoin community. There is already the well done survey by Simulacrum that you can find here: http://simulacrum.cc/2013/03/04/the-demographics-of-bitcoin-part-1-updated/ but it's 4 years old, so I'd like to do a new one.

As the Simulacrum survey has been used by journalists/academics I am asking the same questions (plus some new) in order to have comparable results between the year.

After some time I will publish all the results so everybody will be able to use them for free.

So, thanks to everyone who will be so kind to answer, you are helping the whole bitcoin community  :)

If you want to help but you already did the survey, please upvote and comment my posts on reddit so the survey will have more answers   Smiley

I like how numerous "scientists" and students casually drop by here from time to time. Leave us some survey and then disappear forever.

I completed your survey, overall good questions about bitcoin community (I skipped some more intrusive ones).

Also I noticed you left a clue about your whereabouts Op, you are from Italy, right?

Maybe the people disappears but the data remains  ;)

However yes I am italian, how did you get that?

I went ahead and did the survey, some questions I skipped over (I'd rather not disclose how many bitcoins I have) but I answered the important ones. Haha no we don't all use bitcoins for drugs. People that do CLEARY have no clue about bitcoins. It's a public ledger. Why would I want everyone in the world to be able to see when I bought illicit drugs!? Cash works much better haha but you won't see those statistics on the mainstream media.

Look good. I completed the survey, it was short. I do hope to see the result shared here. I like statistics.
I think you could have asked lot of more questions about bitcoin. I hope you get lot of datas :)

Pretty good survey, but i don`t like the first question.I earn bitcoins and spend them for USD.
Does this make me a bitcoin user or something else?

Always happy to help out any form of learning and research... we all know what little we do about crypto from mainstream media and many of the "unsavoury elements" that unfairly stick out for bitcoin continue to persist. If I may comment, certain elements of your questioning also reflect this existing bias.

I hope your demographic sampling also takes note that users on this forum itself belong to certain specific target users. You may benefit with a posting in other language sections =). Good luck!

Well it depends on the answers  :)  however I remind everybody that except 2-3 of them the questions were chosen by Simulacrum and the survey results were been used by journalists/academics so all the merit goes to him.

Yes I am posting it also in the other language sections, if somebody can help me with the translation of the original post I would be glad so I don't have to publish it in english  :)

I actually like your observation on people just show up, collect data and then disappear, we are not lab rats, I will be glad to see the report of this research after completion.

This is the 4th thread that is doing survey about bitcoins. I have not yet answered the questionnaires, I am still reading them. There are good questions but some needs to be rephrased or must be changed to make the questionnaires good enough. Like the others said number one question needs to be improved. Good luck to your survey and hope it will help the bitcoin community a lot.

Yes you will, and the data will be available for everybody so other reports can be done.

I didn't change the questions because there have been more than 1000 answers for the same survey in 2013, so having an updated one would be really important to understand trends and changes over time.

I'll be happy to do a Malay/Indonesian translation for you, but you'd still have to put up the actual survey yourself. And of course, take care of your own posting in this forum. Perhaps over the weekend.

You can PM me the raw file and tell me there how you would like me to send it back.

Hi, I would prefer not to change the language of the questions, because it could have an effect on the answers as languages are very different from each other. Thank you for your help  :)

I am doing a master called "Innovation Management" in Italy. I think Bitcoin is a good subject for this kind of master  ;)

In a time of ten or twenty years bitcoin will be studied in universities like the dotcom companies, I think you will have a very bright future and more in the times so confusing that we arrive.

Thanks you all for answering, I would start publishing some results but I need more answers, otherwise the data is not relevant. If you want to contribute share the survey https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeR8CrlR-x-dV8_vBDLq17BHdoJc7EAaL5ban-i7dXx6a32bA/viewform or upvote and comment the reddit posts (I linked them in the above post).

For now the only safe assumption is that we are all male  :D As a matter of fact 95,7% of the answers are made by male users.
