Title: [free] CPU mining in the cloud, Quick Hashpower
Post by: DaCash on April 13, 2013, 01:25:09 PM
update: trial closed

You probably have heard about Windows Azure. Right. It's been several weeks after major azure buzz and M$ already unleashed ban hammer upon new users, especially the ones that are not going to settle with mini-micro instances and immediately maxed out 20 cores of Server 2012 madness :).

I want to tell you about Yet Another Cloud Provider, named bigblueone.com

Advantages compared to Azure (in terms of Litecoin mining) are: you don't need a credit card; single mobile number for SMS confirmations can be used for multiple accounts.
So all you have to spare is your time for registration process and email creation.

Go to the bigblueone.com (http://anonym.to/?http://bigblueone.com), click "I want cloud", and the rest is pretty straightforward. You'll get 100 CZK balance upon registration, which should last for 48+ hours (they don't immediately shutdown servers, thus allowing to go slightly overquota).
Choose maximum of 16 cores, min RAM and min HDD.
On the next page choose cheapest options: standard storage and disable secure cloud, Next, choose OS and servername.
I have tried both Linux and Windows, it is essentially a matter of taste. However, their RHEL for some reason does not include tar by default, which requires extra step in a shell script (and extra time). CentOS and Debian worked fine out of the box.
Personally, time required to setup Linux is much less for me (AND it's a little bit cheaper, which means longer mining time per account  ;D ).

On the Next page fill in registration info, important fields are email and SMS number - you have to confirm both. Within a couple of minutes you should receive confirmation email with access info for Online Management Console, where you newly configured server is just waiting for you to press green button "Confirm server". After that the process takes about 10 minutes.

Use SSH (putty) for Linux and Remote Desktop (mstsc) for Windows servers

What is the "correct format" the registration desires for a US based phone number? 1+3+3+4 doesn't cut it.

+1 on this working. You can also do this on Windows Azure but I believe they require more accurate information.

Yeah, adding the + sign to the phone number worked.

Sounds cool.
So you actually have about 48 hours before you get banned, is this correct?

toork correct.

But, DaCash, it's a ban or the offered credit runs out?

Err, ban is the wrong term. Credit runs out, you have to get a new email but sms verification still works

:-D
New mail is quite easy.
As for the sms verification, I don't know if they accept the same phone number over and over.
If they do, it's quite easy, if not, I'd be quite limited in the finite cell numbers... :-)
But even so, thanks!!!

Based on 48hours... how many ltc can you make?

At 46 kH/s for 48 hours at the current difficulty rate: 76 cents minus effort

https://www.litecoinpool.org/calc?hashrate=46&difficulty=293.35991187

If you were to scale this to a 100, you would make 73 dollars.

At 1000, you would make 730 dollars.

You can scale this by about 50 in eight hours, if you can create one every ten minutes.

So the most someone can have running at once is around 150, with a lot of work.

You could automate the process though.

I don't like this method because it likely won't last for a while, and because it is exploitive on someone else's dime..

I don't think you will be able to make 100 on this one... Maybe the first 100 you can.. but the next i doubt it...

the domain itself does not have any alexa rank.. meaning they got around 500 visitors a day or less?

if they see 100 accounts created a day... they will have to do some action..

i think so too. after logging in, balance shows 0 and they didnt launch the server created during signup. They asked to buy credits.

Are there other companies that may have spare GPU clock cycles they would be willing to sell/rent? Thinking a service like OnLive

Here too - it told me I'd get 100 credits upon signup but here we are, hours later, and no credits. Disappointment ensues.
