Title: Altcoins to hold during a bitcoin rally?
Post by: thejaytiesto on January 19, 2017, 05:32:41 PM
So as we see, bitcoin is going back to 1000 dollars+ soon. Do you think there are any good altcoins to hold during a bitcoin rally to make more BTC?

At the end of the day, I don't care about USD, I want more BTC, so I need to have opened positions in altcoins to make more BTC (since im not selling any BTCs)

What altcoins are you holding? Will all they go red again?

If bitcoin's price jump fast all alts will be in red at least at the beginning, since they usually over react to bitcoin's movements. If the rise is slow and steady I would just hold the most estabilished alts with more use or best tech such as XMR,ETH/ETC,LTC,DASH,ARDOR/NXT and maybe also some XRP.

I agree, but what if we are in front of the next big rise? maybe you think "oh well, another overreaction", then you wake up at 1000+ and all alts are collapsing... that would suck, that's why its the best to stay 90% on BTC at all times, you never know when the big rocket will hit jupiter.

On bitcoin pumps = hold bitcoin
When bitcoin is getting some correction = buy alts like ETH, XMR and wait till bitcoin price get settle to some point to buy back bitcoin
When there is bad news regarding bitcoin = buy alt with good daily trading volume to hedge against those dump

Bitcoin price is about to make next pump soon so better to hold bitcoin rather than any other alts.

Well If we take a look at last price spike and altcoin's prices during that time I would have to say Zcash. I've personally invested a bit in Zcash and mining it atm. I don't think it's good coin or that it will pay off in long time just want to make some profit short term

Turned all those alts to BTC for the moment to take advantage of the price increase. With such cases like that, altcoin price will thoroughly decrease so in the end you will encounter those coins at very cheap prices while at the same time enjoying good profits out of bitcoin price increase.

If you really want to makes profits care for USD also since that is a part of the rotation.

Only NEM is my preferred other cryptos that is meant for long term one.

There are some coins that always fall during the discharge of Bitcoin and when it gives a stabilized they give a pump, an example is the Factom. From the graph it's easy to see that. During the Bitcoin pump hold Bitcoin and when it stabilizes, look for an alt that follows this pattern.

During bitcoin price increase rally there are really alts would go red or decrease its price during that time. I cant mention on a particular altcoin since i dont invest money too much on alts im just focusing on bitcoin but well there are people who love alts which generates good profits.

But SOME alts do pump... that is the point of this thread I think, to find those alts that pump so you can profit and make more BTC. BTC going up in dollars is not relevant unless you trade BTC for dollars and I don't do that since to deal with fiat you need to give your details to exchanges so im stuck with alts...

All altcoin wont be in the red! Bitbay is about to have a rolling peg to the dollar.

Just think of this. When the crash does happen people can buy bitbay to hold value and not lose $100's of dollars worth.

Some alts are being pumped, that is correct. But can you see any regularity in this? It is pure lottery pretty much every time. There were times where traders were selling every altcoin to buy BTC.
But for example, right now: BTC dropped a slightly but ETC is being crazy pumped, ETH and LTC gained a little and every other top altcoin is dropping...
So yes,  when in doubt I would rather hold BTC.

But I do not see the need to buy altcoins to take advantage of some eventual rally in the bitcoin price. If you are really convinced that the bitcoin is going to to go up and you are not interested in the fiat money, so you should  spend all the fiat you can get on buying bitcoins.

No, Time already proven "hindsight is... well" that BTC will rise and other crypto's will fall and vice versa happens sometimes but the most common is irregular trends, I guess if BTC is moving up then it's better to dump crypto's and jump on the train..

u are right mate, but i think it's better to have just 50% on BTC and 50% on ALT

XMR is one altcoin to hold on to during a bitcoin rally.

Can't say much about other altcoins but XMR surely is a hold.

Traditionally it is always best to be full into bitcoin during a rally as altcoins get sold in the process.

At the end of the rally move back in the mentioned coins, as they are likely the first to raise back up.

just hold whatever coin you think has a good tech behind it and a serious team of developers
I prefer to think in the long term, instead of how earn a few bits in the next Bitcoin rally

Both are good cryptocurrencies, mainly because they have fair distribution, active community and technical aspects that differentiate these currencies from the others. But I'm not sure if this is the right time to buy... if Bitcoin continues to go up in value, I think Litecoin has better chances to remain stable in the market, but maybe Monero suffers some price drops.

there are two types of altcoins,
1) those that are affected by bitcoin price, which means you should dump them, not hold during a rally.
2) those that are not affected by bitcoin price, which means they are pump and dump coins. and you can never tell when the pump is going to be with these type of coins. so again you can not tell whether you should hold it or not.
