Title: 7950 or 7970 for casual mining?
Post by: sandor_clegane08 on April 13, 2013, 06:51:58 PM
I'm trying to decide which of these to get. Does anyone know which gives you the most bang for buck when mining? Also what sort of MH/s do you get when using these cards? Just curious how much of an improvement i'll see compared to a GTX 470 (as we know, nvidias are terrible for mining :))

By casual you mean you might actually, God forbid, play a game with the card?  :D

7970 is you want to game since it has the most umph.

7950 if want the most bang/buck for mining.

Lots of reading to do around here.  8)   Took me a couple weeks to get up to speed. Climb aboard!

Hello guys I also have a question. Why Bitcoin Hash rates are written as 1000MH/s and Litecoins as 1000KH/s.
these number are written for the same card i.e if we take example of 6990 the has rates for BTC and LTC are written as.

BTC 900MH/s
LTC 900KH/s

What is the difference between them?
I doubt that they are not written correctly. Both should be KH/s

The litecoin hashing algorithm takes 1000 times longer per iteration, when optimized. On equal hardware that can run both well, ltc should be btc / 1000.

scrypt (used by LTC) is more difficult than sha-256 (used by BTC), thus the lower hashrate.
