Title: Can you survive off bitcoin alone?
Post by: digitokash on January 21, 2017, 06:01:25 PM
I had to, I could survive off of bitcoin alone forever.

I would simply trade my coin for gift cards from walmart or target for food.
Trade it for visa gift cards to pay bills.

1. How long could you survice?
2.How long do you think it will take bitcoin to go "mainstream"

I included my top 5 places to buy here (http://www.digitokash.com/top-5-places-to-buy-bitcoin/).

No. You need 2-way atms for that.

Bitpay offers a card that allow you to transfer bitcoin, directly to its visa card. Then you could hit any atm you wanted :)

You're not then surviving off bitcoin alone ar you?
Mainstream adoption is still probably over 20 years off (probably). Very few have the idea of how to use it and many don't know what it is). So currently, the answer is no, you cannot survive off it alone (unless you get a bitcoin debit card or similar that can convert it when you get to a compatible card reader).

You can't do it without using cash at any point.
You could get a bitcoin debit card that converts fom bitcoin to fiat to be spent (in that way you're not carrying ound any physical cash).
You could buy vouchers but then they're just a FiAT value security.

At this point yes you can survice on btc alone.
Coin there is many sites now offering debit cards that will turn btc into fiat.
So i mean you can basically do w.e you want with btc now.

No, because you'll need to convert your BTC to real money, as most stores are not yet accepting BTC a means of payment.

I have a Bitcoin debit card so if I had an infinite supply of Bitcoin I could survive forever. I doubt Bitcoin will ever go mainstream.

i don't know how long i can survive with bitcoin alone without using fiat because as long as bitcoin is only used in internet and we can not use bitcoin in offline life, i think it doesn't need too long to give up. we still need fiat beside of bitcoin because with fiat, we can exchange our bitcoin into fiat and then we can spend our money to buy something.

That's a fairly good point. If the internet connection was interrupted in something like a natural disaster then there would be no way for people to buy stuff (unless they have something like fiat or gold in order to pay them with). Or even if you were without an internet connection for a while.

Why not? We can really survive in bitcoin alone, because we can convert btc in fiat and we can use it as a hard cash so we can really survive with bitcoin alone. For me as of today, if I focus earning in bitcoin it is really has a good amount especially today because it is really increases its value and if I focus earning it, it is better than my decent job today.

Well that depends on your definition of alone forever. If alone means without no fiat currency, I doubt. There are still somethings you mat not be able to purchase with bitcoin. I don't know what happens tomorrow though. If by survival, i.e you have tangible amount of bitcoin in your wallet, then you decide not to do any work and just enjoy your bitcoin forever! Then you may need to rethink.

I do not think it is possible yet, at least for me. Things like healthcare are too expensive and unpredictable. The value of bitcoin is still fluctuating too much fpr me to entirely rely on it as a primary asset or income.

I think it can. As long as there is desire, spirit and dream to move forward. May be now not yet, but I'm sure someday I can definitely survive in bitcoin.

I agree, bitcoin value still unstable,so we still cannot rely in bitcoin right now, I think if this happens immediately some people will not survive, bitcoin needs to transact online and not all the time we have it whenever we go. Especially those who can't afford to. It is hard to rely in bitcoin right now. I don't think its a good idea.

You can survive . Just sell  bitcoins  that you had and convert them into fiat.
Just this way one can buy all the stuffs that he wanna buy
In the future bitcoins are going to be accept in the shops and malls as a mode of payment.

No, because you'll need to convert your BTC to real money.
why because  most of the  stores, malls are not yet accepting BTC  payment.

It's possible in Arnhem, Netherlands.
The biggest bitcoin commerce city.

You can rent studio, pay gas and get groceries.

Check the list of commerce accepting it:

No, I don't think I can survive with bitcoin alone. I see bitcoin as an investment like stocks, need to convert them to fiat then diversify to other channels.

No. You should encash bitcoin for you to be able to survive because there are limited stores that accept bitcoins or no stores at all.

you can defintely figure it out with bitcoin

but until places start accepting BTC you'll have to exchange it for USD or whatever currency of your choice

it will take a while until people start using it daily, and mass adoption might never happen, but we are definitely in a good and the right way towards that - what an exciting time to be alive
