Because we want more bitcoins... and altcoins are the only way to trade and get more bitcoins without having to give your bank accounts and all sort of credentials into all those shady ass exchanges in order for you to trade.

Alts will always exist because people love gambling.

I don't agree with the testnet, because we have already the teestnet with bitcoin, if you want tot ry something you can try it there without making an altcoin to scam investors, altcoin are bad for another reason and is the fact that they remove liquidity to the bitcoin market, if someone want to buy many altcoin he will dump bitcoin for them because it's the easy way instead of going with fiat first

Competition, altcoins are needed to bring competition to bitcoin, nothing good comes from a monopoly so by having altcoins there are more ways for people to make money, to receive payments, it gives us the chance to choose the crypto currency that has the best characteristics for what we are looking for.

If there's no altcoin then more than 50% of its user will quit bitcoin because then there will be Less possibility of trading and making profit from it. Without altcoin bitcoin is nothing for traders who deal with multiple coins. And also for the market competition altcoin are needed.

I understand what you say and I mostly agree but scams might be always there but with anti fragility they will disappear again. People get educated!

i mainly agree on altcoins being a testing ground for newer features. you can not easily change bitcoin because reaching consensus among millions of people who are using bitcoin is hard.

but in an altcoin that only a couple of users using it or even new coins with new features is easy and a good thing to see new features on.

although these days altcoin word means pump and dump but if we can see one among hundreds that comes a bit close to this goal i think we can win.

Imo Bitcoin does not need Altcoins, and while it does offer some things like competition and a sort of separate economy within the crypto world that trades much like stock markets in the real world, a lot of the things listed aren't really "benefits" for Bitcoin. Very little that comes from altcoin development is ever implemented in the full chain.

bitcoin needs altcoins because bitcoin needs help from other source of crypto currencies. if bitcoin itself is just running in the online market, then other users will just think that its boring if it just bitcoin who is running in the online world. maybe they would choose other investment rather than bitcoin so thay can play in the market.

because with altcoin, bitcoin prices could rise to the height. I feel that 50% of the price of bitcoin, influenced by altcoin. because, some people count the number altcoin with bitcoin. bitcoin has always been a role model for altcoin. so, anyone who uses altcoin, will certainly pay attention to bitcoin, and vice versa.

Alternative coins are useful as long as mining them is profitable, besides the usual premined and scamming coins, most of them if not all are completely useless and since bitcoin is no longer profitable for home miners and small miners people decided to create some alternative ways to earn some money but others exploited that and turned it into a way for scamming.

Bitcoin does not need altcoins, but they also do not hurt Bitcoin. They can be beneficial, because they bring new ideas to the table, but if something works on an altcoin it is not a given that it will work with Bitcoin. Or the other way round, if it does not work with altcoin it is not a given that it also will not work with Bitcoin.

I might have to disagree with you on that. Bitcoin really needs Altcoins around. You already said it yourself. Altcoins bring along with them, New Tech and New Ideas that makes People want to join the CryptoCurrency Community.

Keep in mind that this isn't about Bitcoin alone. It's about Cryptocurrency — How it changes lives and enhance Payments. Believe me, If bitcoin was the only CryptoCurrency, It wouldn't get the attention It's currently getting. Also There's a need for competition between Bitcoin and altcoins.  So one way or another, Bitcoin needs Altcoins. I maybe wrong though ;)

I'm not quite sure that altcoins are necessary for Bitcoin it could function even without them with no difficulties. But altcoins are the way of competition so they could maybe  help Bitcoin to be improved. And who knows maybe one day some realy strong altcoin will appear that could seriously compete Bitcoin.

I also hardly believe that Alternative coins are useful and its necessary for bitcoin.Nowadays, there are hundreds of Cryptocurrency Coins available on the market and some of them are profitable thats why we could trade them in various site. Bitcoin needs altcoins because this service is useful also the most profitable.

i think not a single alt coin can compare to bitcoin, because the uses of bitcoin are more than any other currency. and the second is  that bitcoin do not need for any alt coin.  i think alt coin can only be use for trading.

Monero (XMR) is an altcoin that is being used for something other than trading. And, I believe, DASH is as well.
FYI: Don't get haughty about Bitcoin and believing no other coin can replace it. Contraire, if the majority decides to switch to a less expensive altcoin that has similar or greater attributes all that has to occur is adoption. There are many coins such as Dash, Monero, Spectre, Cloakcoin, Shadowcoin that could possibly provide more anonymity.

Some concepts are inherently incompatible with Bitcoin's design.  How do you figure we could implement something like 'Proof of Capacity' (hdd mining) and 'Directed Acyclic Graphs' (blockchain alternative) in Bitcoin?  It's just not feasible.  There's no alternative due to how vastly different they are.  Some potentially viable ideas have to be tested in altcoins.  Plus you can't just add your own new features to the testnet to try them out, that's not how it works.  If the feature you add doesn't comply with the network rules, you would fork from the testnet and create... you guessed it... an altcoin.  Keep an open mind.

Op, I disagree with your view. I don't think we need altcoins at all, certainly not to make BTC stronger. IMO altcoins act like a distraction.
Imagine the world without altcoins where instead wasting your time on altcoin XYY, XYZ and XZZ everyone would focus on bitcoin.
We would be sitting on 4 digits per BTC now, maybe more. Bitcoin would be huge unstoppable force, to the point to not care about any government regulations.

I think that the biggest benefits that Bitcoin can have through these coins will occur when projects begin to be developed in Bitcoin sidechains, because many of the improvements proposed by such coins can be used in the Bitcoin network. For the information I have, there are several projects currently working on it.

Altcoins are needed for natural selection in cryptoworld. Most wise and clever will hoard most bitcoins. Dull ones and unfit will lose everything on alts and can not survive.

If altcoins were not there, people cannot understand the importance and potential of bitcoin. Bitcoin could have been considered similar to a coin or currency. Now due its success as digital currency and as a technology, it is preferred in several platform based upon their requirements.

BTC doesn't need any jack whatsoever but people do, you see bitcoin isn't about a dev team copy pasting and even changing a few lines of codes and then sit back and wait to dump their 40% or more premined coins on people only after they pumped it themselves.

Today bitcoin has become more popular due to altcoin because most of crypto are not really comparable with bitcoin. Many people are actively trading altcoin to make more money in the form of btc, some people can't able to invest big amounts to buy bitcoin, through altcoin it is possible to make huge bitcoin.

Altcoins i think its a good way to test or experiment some features that can possibly improve bitcoin in the future. You can test it on altcoin. LN, adding blocksize and other. Some altcoins are undergoing to this test right now. But seems altcoins are so many. But only few are succeeded. Bitcoiin should adapt some features in able to survive in the future.

Hahaha. I must admit I did not think of it that way. My primary thoughts on altcoins are usually in the negative and my belief is that they are more of a nuisance than a benefit for Bitcoin. Since you put it that way then Bitcoiners should encourage the creation of coins until we have enough cushion to fall on in case Bitcoin goes down.

lol, bitcoin does not need any other altcoin, period. Although the existence of altcoin did advance our understanding of the cybercoin and generated some good technologies.

Practically I know that you cannot do tradings without the altcoins because it is needed in bitcoin. Alternative coins would do a lot of bitcoin in trading because those altcoins could be your bitcoin earnings in an alternative way on how trade works.

bitcoin doesn't need altcoins at all if you ask me, there is a testnet that is working the same as bitcoin and if anything wants to be tested, it can be tested there easily. altcoins are distraction for making more bitcoin.

the only thing that i can agree on is that altcoins can introduce things that are completely new, for example the first POS coin or some weird new feature that nobody knows. but again if that feature is good and useful we can test it on bitcoin and add it to it.

for me its correct to say that bitcoin needs alts for competition and because of that we are enjoying the trade industry as we can trade alts to convert into btc and enjoy the fluctuation, earnings coming from trading is much prefer rather than shorting bitcoin into fiat, its my personal opinion and understanding since most of them offer same thing regarding into its service and bitcoin can be more stable among the rest.

If bitcoin is only the currency and no altcoins maybe traders will quit from trading because it's hard and it takes a long time to get profit from trading and earn money and it's hard to trade bitcoins, the other purpose of altcoins is to use it from trading to earn money and to play the market.

Bitcoin can obviously stand for Itself, It doesn't need any altcoin for it to work but in any case that it dies there will be an option for us to choose for an alternative , I think the proper question would be why we people need altcoin rather than why bitcoin need altcoin

I like Litecoin that sometimes implements features before Bitcoin to see if they make sense. In general trying different crypto approaches is good for the whole market.

Altcoins works like a different network to send bitcoins through. Altcoins can be pretty helpful when you want to send bitcoin and pay a lot less fees with faster transactions times than you would if you used the normal bitcoin network. Basically, Altcoins can greatly surpass the bitcoin network limitations

Saying you dont need altcoins is extremely myopic. Its like facebook saying "we dont need twitter or instagram" or skype saying "we dont need whatsapp, viber, signal etc..." because we should be the one and only.

If you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, you will see that having all these different services and branches only strengthens the entire cryptosphere. We need as many different possibilities as we can get (IMO). Not everyone is in love with bitcoin and we should be open to that, but perhaps they are open to decentralized storage like STORJ or other platforms like Synereo etc.

Bitcoin doesnt need altcoins. Even though bitcoins has flaws and weaknesses such as slow transaction and smalle blocksize, high miner fees but it doesnt mean that bitcoin needs altcoin to survive. Bitcoin is independent of any altcoins. The advantages brought by alternative coins is not on the level of bitcoin but on the level of traders. Alternative coins makes the exchanger more livelier for traders.

Altcoins are just designed "to make money" thinking they can be like bitcoin someday. We can't compare that to the different fiat currency that is existed today since it's per nation basis.

Well said mate. For me, i could see this from many angles. Another example would be internet browsers. Some people know that chrome is a fork from Chromium (the true and original, open source browser which google turned into Chrome and removed its beautiful security features), but unfortunately most of the world seems to only know Chrome. Then there is Firefox which is also great, followed by Safari, IE etc. They all exist because of various reasons - whether its monopoly, standardisation of systems, deals with manufacturers etc - but regardless of personal opinion or devotion, they do all exist. It would be silly to think Chromium - or any other one - should be the one and only. They all open the gate for choice and that is the most important part. I know from experience that some people do not want 0.2 of a bitcoin, but would much rather have +30K GRC instead - psychology of numbers.

With the introduction of shapeshift, one doesnt even need to worry about it anymore. Eventually people will see which suits their needs and in most cases i would assume Bitcoin would be the most useful (IMO).

Bitcoin needs altcoin because it make bitcoin stronger and proving to all of us that out of thousands altcoin created bitcoin is the one who stands out , there something in bitcoin that altcoin doesn't have , so for me altcoins is maybe a tool to prove that bitcoin is above the rest.

I do agree here. There are good alternative coins coins and they serve their purpose. Altcoins is also as important as bitcoin just like we have so many fiat currency and their value varies.That is why we have also cryptocurrency trading.

Besides what I said about how alts will always exist because people love to make more BTC out of pump and dumps, it will also exist because its the fastest way to experiment with crypto technology without having to pass your own BIPs into the bitcoin code. You can get started right away.

Maybe sidechains make alts obsoletes tho, we will see.

I think altcoin helps a lot on Bitcoin promotion, many bitcoin users were brought by altcoins.  There will be no bitcoin to many altcoins pairs and there will be only bitcoin to many fiat currency pairs and other commodities that requires personal details to trade.  Mostly many bitcoin traders will not exist without altcoins.

For me altcoin are only for trading purposes, I don't hold them for long since I have seen that almost none of the altcoin lasts for more than few months. Bitcoin as such doesn't need an altcoin, but bitcoin community profits from having altcoins.

I favor for altcoin to be beneficial for bitcoins only for one reason and that is if a new feature come up in any altcoin it give an ida to bitcoin developers and then they adopt that feature for bitcoin and will make bitcoin more beneficial and stronger while after that I do not like any other thing in altcoin compared to bitcoin.

Altcoins are traded against bitcoins.
So altcoins increase the demand of bitcoin and with it the pric of bitcoin.
And to a lot of people trading has become an important source of income.
In general I would say bitcoin would not be where it is now if altcoins were not developed.

I use alts sometimes to move money from one exchange to another. Saves on fees, confirms very quickly, it's quick and safe. Doge is particularly good for this.

Multiple blockchains in my opinion are a more healthy cryptocurrency environment than a single blockchain.

The main reason for me is the greater efficiency. Imagine a world where blockchains are the main payment method. A single blockchain would mean that all these transactions would have to be saved by all nodes. In a multiple-blockchain world, only a part of the transactions would have been saved by the nodes. So there is much less space wasted and it's easier to operate a full node.

That's only the disk space topic - I am not an expert but I can imagine that multiple blockchains have also efficiency advantages when talking about the necessary bandwidth to spread the transactions in the network(s). Because in a single-blockchain environment all transactions must be broadcasted to all nodes, while with multiple blockchains the users only need to broadcast the transactions to the nodes of their own network.

"Side chain features won't be adopter or successful, because it's centralized". Are you shitting me? This doesn't even make sense grammatically.

Sidechains are a great idea, altcoins will have a hard time justification their existence. Any project backed by bitcoin as a sidechain is better than some obscure ass blockchain that nobody supports.

Most of the time people need alt coin to become trading tool, and alt coin also help bitcoin to raise transaction rate and in the future when the demand of crypto currencies is high, I believed there will be another alt coins that will have the value as good as bitcoin and we need alt coin so we have a better selection for crypto currency

Bitcoin can function without any problems without altcoin but altcoin gives new opportunity and ideas. There are a lot of perspective devs in altcoin world. Who knows which of the ideas will be used for bitcoin

At the contrary, this is for me the most important one. Bitcoin testnet is a closed thing, at the inverse of the altcoins. If you would like to test a revolutionary feature you imagined, altcoins are the perfect sandbox, as no one will bother you and you will not need to refer about what you are doing to anyone.

Wrong. I can now see that altcoins deployed in a real world setting is beneficial for Bitcoin. In a Bitcoin testnet you cannot really now how new features will turn out in a controlled setting. If these features were deployed on an altcoin with real risk of losing real value in case something goes wrong then there is a lot more to learn. Think of it like beta testing for Bitcoin. The latest Beta test would be the deployment of Segwit then LN for Litecoin.

Those are all correct. I am mostly looking forward to Segwit as well. It is great that we can use altcoins to test different ideas before making changes to Bitcoin. One thing that you could have added is that altcoins create competition for Bitcoin. They also show people that are thinking about investing in Bitcoin, that it is the best cryptocurrency. There are no altcoins that are even close to the price of Bitcoin.

Altcoins are a great way to get bitcoin nowadays, bitcoin does need others coins to upgrade and become better, without altcoin i doubt some features would be made over bitcoin. But in the general people spreading their bitcoin between others altcoins with the hope that they can get roi and make good money something that bitcoin had made in the past, nowadays its getting harder to make money with bitcoin just.

If Most people here said that Bitcoin is the number one leading digital currency in cryptoworld, my comment on that it was true. And I just want to add more about it. Bitcoin also is back up by the altcoins too, because it is the reason why many community in bitcoin industry of why they are capable of buying in bitcoin, it is also the main reason why most of the exchangers survive for a couple of years, many of their traders are buying altcoin to their exchange platform. We cannot deny it.

lets face the reality here. most altcoins are shitcoins that copy an altcoin code, freely available to public, change a little and call it a new name.
the remaining are not so different themselves, they change a little more of the code and just hype the rest saying their coing is the best and then die in a while without accomplishing anything.

I agree with this, this is why alt coin made to be trade to bitcoin though some coins try to defeat bitcoin but they can’t because of the strongness of it and I can see on how people uses bitcoin and sees it as profitable compare to other coins there.

I truly agree that bitcoin needs altcoins to survive otherwise member will not be able to trade with bitcoin. You need to have an instrument to trade with bitcoin to make any coin viable.

However, looking at the present number of altcoins, it doesn't seem to be a good idea anyhow. Currently we have around 900 odd altcoins which is not at all good for the crypto economy in any way. The investments are getting divided and bitcoin is not getting the desired investment required for growth. 

We always doubt about altcoins will come and take over the market leader from bitcoin.
As you've mentioned that alts could consider as testnet for bitcoin due to what they improve and implemented to the coins could applied to bitcoin technology if fits for it.
What you missed maybe about a better technology that could compete with bitcoin, that's why we need others dev teams to be creative and create the better way to, I think another coin will do it. We need an alternative, right? Just in case.

Is fiat not enough. This is the most popular trading instrument. Stock exchanges somehow work without altcoins.

And out of those 900 how many will end up as scamcoins? Nobody knows...

maybe its just good to have alt coins. alt coins help to balance the value of bitcoin. as the investors invest from the other alt coins they always depends on bitcoin. it is good that bitcoin supports them. its like the us dollars and the other currencies all over the world. we always based the market in us dollars.

It's natural process , if there is a famous currency with known algorithm , people will try to make their own coin based what bitcoin have

Altcoins is not necessary to have but yes, it really creates earning opportunity both for the altcoin owners and traders to get benefit from trade. Also all the big exchange sites like Bitfinex, poloniex and Ccex etc are runing because of people interest in trading in bitcoins.

How comes? Maybe you are right but I don't get it. I thought that alternative currencies make bitcoin more open and exchangeable for something close to it and so they all become parts of one economy.
Anyway, I think it is true that bitcoin won't be alone forever, because when there is something strong it got to have an analogous strong opponent, like USD and EURO, good and bad etc.

I did not say they were equal in size or price, I said competition even if other altcoins don't have the market share or price of bitcoin that does not mean they don’t have some good characteristics that we may find useful.

Altcoins were made in the general like a better version then bitcoin, some of them has huge potencial to grow, and they handled the best way the transactions confirmations time, that some are instant, sure bitcoin were and will be always the first and its one of the main reason of the huge sucess, nowadays i doubt there will be any other altcoin able to replace, miners wont allow such thing to happen.

Bitcoin could probably continue to succeed if there were no altcoins. However, these altcoins bring new possibilities that can help Bitcoin, and allow some resources to be tested before Bitcoin receives such improvements. Litecoin, for example, is considering implementing SegWit before Bitcoin, and this will let we know how this improvement can work.

On the contrary, isnt it altcoin needs bitcoin to survive?  Altcoin may help Bitcoin greatly in terms of promotion but if you say for bitcoin to survive it needs to hold to altcoin, Altcoin even blemish the name of Bitcoin due both of them are cryptocurrency, any scam done by altcoin has a direct impact to bitcoin.  As a matter of fact, altcoins bring more bad image to bitcoin than its help to promotion.

well that is wrong. because we never have tested anything on altcoins before adding to bitcoin and we never will. because simply there is a testnet (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Testnet) available which is completely the same as bitcoin and we have always been testing things there before release.

Sometimes I think that if all of the crypto developers work only for one currency bitcoin then it will become a most stronger and successful currency all over the world and within only a few years bitcoin will become a global currency so I am pointing out that bitcoin do not need altcoins for its success but a cooperative work for it.

Bitcoin need altcoins because it needs competition. When there is no competition then bitcoin wont flourish much as it is doing now. This is true, one of the reasons for having altcoins is a very simple one, don’t put all your eggs in the same basket, if something were to happen to bitcoin, a vulnerability on the code or something, then we will need to start from scratch all over again but with altcoins we can just move to another coin without the vulnerability.

There is no missing solution for bitcoin because it is as it is. There's no need for improvement of fulfillment of bitcoin that alt coin is going to be successor of it. But alt coin is also a good help to bitcoin because it helps the investors to find a lot of ways to invest. Because of them they are making the bitcoin market cap becomes higher for buying alt coins with the use alts.

Bitcoin doesn't need Altcoin but the reverse is not true. Altcoin needs bitcoin for mass adoption.Bitcoin help buying Altcoin and has given a way to Altcoins.
Bitcoin was there when there were no Altcoin but Altcoins can not survive without bitcoin.

All open source software has a start.
But they follow versions of the same that can be much superior.
The initial software has a historical reference value.
Bitcoin proved that blockchain technology works well.
But there are improvements that can no longer be implemented in bitcoin,

it has point but bitcoin is the root of all crypto currencies. all alt coins is just the fruit of bitcoin. their would not have alt coins if bitcoin is not introduced to the online market. if bitcoins goes down all fruits will also come down as the result of the biggest crypto currencies fall. but all fruits can always start to grow. i just mean that if bitcoin goes down all of the cryto currencies will also be damaged.

   In less then a year I didnt use alt-coins at all, from my point of view bitcoins doesnt need alt-coins. After bitcoin made success many developers wish to make the same but bitcoin is only one. I don't feel so. Bitcoin has largest member base among all cryptos. So possible reason for its extinction can never be relate to its supply. Most possible reasons could include external factors like world-wide ban, etc. Under such situation other alts will not survive too.

I do not think that any currency is dependent on any other currency for its running. All of the currencies are independent but only we people require one or another currency for the convenient of other for example developers need BTC deposit to participate in ICO because their convenient money is BTC otherwise they would use their own currency for all the requirements of their project. In exchanges altcoins are traded against BTC becuse the exchange owners know that people love to trade to BTC and that is convenient otherwise people will not join fiat exchange for trade.

Many people wants to have bitcoin as much as they can and altcoins has been a big help in promoting bitcoin in the world because altcoin are cheaper many people get interested with it. They use and invest in altcoin to collect bitcoin. They both need each other, without altcoin bitcoin is hardly to reach and without bitcoin there is no bitcoin.

Because, bitcoin alone cannot make the cryptocurrency good. There should be something alternative and competitive as we cannot predict one as the best without having any other similar thing!

Comparing bitcoin and an altcoin doesn't make the cryptocurrency as a whole good. It just makes bitcoin stand out. Suppose that there's no altcoin and the only crypto is bitcoin. The whole crypto thing would still be good because bitcoin is good. Actually, even if there are altcoins, the reputation of the cryptocurrency still depend on bitcoins because bitcoin is the best crypto right now. Precisely Bitcoin and Altcoins need each other to go exist and the price of one influence the other. They are directly proportional to each. This forms the backbone of trading and trades tend to get more options with the cryptocurrencies as against fiats.

It is correct that bitcoin and altcoins complement each other that it forms the backbone of trading but they are not directly proportional to each other, at least price-wise. When the price of bitcoin is increasing, altcoin holders tend to sell their coins since they can sell their bitcoin to fiat and gain profit from it. Similar to when the price of bitcoin is decreasing, altcoin's price increases. This is mostly the case so I'd like to say that the bitcoin and altcoins are inversely proportional to each other in their prices.

It would diversify the dependability on any single thing i.e - bitcoin. Altcoin usually absorbs the extra force or overload of bitcoin in terms of trade volume and user base. Bitcoin needs altcoins for a lot of reasons. Primarily competition IMO. Another reason I think is for making/testing out ideas. e.g: Sharding for Ethereum, is an interesting idea which I think could solve a lot of scaling issues. Or them moving to POS, it'd be interesting to see how that works out for large blockchains, so that we can maybe later implement it on Bitcoin.

For me bitcoins need alternative coins to support it self to grow more its economy bitcoin will not grow into this if theres none token support him. But bitcoin will encounter compitition to those alternative coins. Like those classic coins who will be scammed in the end.

For us to know, why bitcoins need altcoin because, we know that bitcoin is just only a kind of currency. Well if you sold your coins lower than the price you bought it, you are the one losing your money.  The sad part with altcoin is, even not selling you can lose money in a sense that, the altcoin your holding is being dumped heavily that it will force you to sell at a loss. If you hold it longer, you will end up bagholding a worthless coins.  So there goes all your money invested on that wortless coin.

Bitcoin is already a number one the rest are clone of bitcoin.. because bitcoin is the oldest and the first crypto release i heard that bitcoin is just an experiment before but they do not know that bitcoin will be active just like now and more people are using it.. also i think they are using it in many illegal usage because of anonymity that is why i think the price was hit 1k value last 2013 due to many illegal activities happen and use bitcoin as payment.

The only reason that I can imagine is that altcoins market creates demand for BTC. People are just trying to invest (or gamble) in altcoins and even if the lifecycle of most of them is short, new coins are being lunched on daily basis. In my thoughts, altcoins is the gateway for us to get more bitcoin through doing trade it in the exchange platform. Since bitcoin now is too high, altcoins is our option for that things. By simply joining in the ico signature campaign, for us to have a bounty after the event of the ico. One more thing the demand is getting faster because of altcoin so the result is bitcoin getting higher.

I don't think that Altcoins help with the pumping of Bitcoin because if someone purchases Bitcoin he is trading BTC to get the Altcoin and then when the seller of the Altcoin receives BTC he or she will dump BTC to obtain fiat.

It's not what I think, trading is an act or converting your asset into fiat to have it's value. Trading in altcoins has no difference in trading with bitcoin, it just so happen that bitcoin is more popular than altcoins but if you will just dig deeper and expand your knowledge, you can find that there are more legitimate altcoins that has been existing successfully for a long time already, they provide your greater profit as they fluctuate more than bitcoin itself.

I am disagree. I think bitcoin can be on the top without altcoins and all of them are weak competitors which not affect on bitcoin's price at all. We surely don't. The altcoins that don't have use or don't have an audience at all just sinks down pretty quickly. Bitcoin needs altcoins so we can test out the new stuffs before we launch it on bitcoins. Not that bitcoin depends on altcoins, but altcoins help bitcoin grow in some way. Every altcoin user eventually becomes a bitcoin user because he gets exposed in the cryptocurrency world.

Once they are found workable, they will be transferred to the Bitcoin-Blockchain mainframe.

Alts also function as distraction to the gullible to trade on, with the false hope that they will strike it rich (those who are rich are the insiders).

I don't know why and how exactly, but I suspect the riches that Bitcoin will ultimately bring will make almost everyone to become very materialistic and turn away from spiritual path, thus become lost.

And this period will be very very long. And humans reincarnated during/in this period will experience regression to their karma as they will commit more sins than deeds. I think it is also the truth that you would need bitcoin to buy an altcoin. So it is kind of connected. Whenever a new investor is introduced to a new altcoin there is a time that he or she will be facing bitcoin also. So it kind of helps with the advertisement although their main priority is their own coin first.
Also, whenever you go to a trading website the main currency to be used is bitcoin to where alts are valued. I think when the alt get popular that is when they where priced in USD.

In my perception of this matter, Bitcoin I think need altcoin in  terms of promoting it in the entire world. Even though we mainly trade them with bitcoins, bitcoins' value is still measured using the fiat currency. Doesn't matter if there would be millions of cryptocurrencies that has been created when the government decided to take some action. They simply have to ban the use of all unregulated currencies most especially decentralized ones and unregulated ones. When they do that, it will be legal to use centralized cryptocurrency like digital fiat, digital gold, etc.

They don't have to ban bitcoins, and then ban etherium, then ban dash, then ban LTC, then ban Dogecoin. The government is quite smart. They are not going to put a ban on these currencies one by one but rather they will categorize them to ban them all at once.

I kind of doubt that they have any control over bitcoins. Because why create something that will totally destroy the fiat system when in the first place, it's the thing that gives them control over us. I think you are wrong thinking that bitcoin do not need altcoins or other cryptocurrency, most of the bitcoin users start to earn other cryptocurrency and then use it to convert or trade to bitcoin so they can have some profit. It is essential for a popular or original digital currency to have a competent opponent because the aim of digital currency is not based on it's price but depends on how the users use it. Many users are using bitcoin because they love how they send and pay bills out of it, in other words, they suit their need, but with the unconfirmed transactions, they are fearing to use it so they are converting to another altcoin with fast transactions to suit what the user needs. Although it tends to be like that, it's not always like that. There's just no correlation between the two. If bitcoin goes down in price, I'm not going to buy ETH or any other altcoin. I also observed what you are saying when the price of bitcoin was moving from 1K$ to 2.9k$. You would literally watch a show of altcoins going down. Sure! Bitcoin has its own testnet but altcoins can still be used. For example, segregrated witness was/is being experimented on Litecoin which is an altcoin to know how the situation plays out. So far, it had been tested to lay out good which I believe increased the support for segwit2x.

However, bitcoin does not depend on altcoins; in contrast, many altcoins depend on bitcoin, their value depends on bitcoin. This causes the opposite in the development of the currency.

Although bitcoin is capable of a lot of the features of the popular alts, I prefer each blockchain serving a distinct purpose. Litecoin indeed functions as a silver, as far as stability, and it's pretty fast. Doge is useful for xfer between exchanges, given the low price per coin, relatively stable price, and always low fees. ETH haa all the ERC20 tokens, atock like assets on a blockchain. Essentially, the differences in the coins are features. Bitcoin seems like a great long term store of value, but it's usefulness breaks down as an everyday spending currency.

In trading, for example, it helps with the liquidity of both, then there's gaining from price differences, so trading with bitcoin and alts makes cryptocurrency trading exciting. Other than that, they help each other carry out a deeper level of psuedonymity since it won't just be bitcoin addresses that are dealt with but with altcoin addresses as well. More layers of pseudonymity is carried out, so it won't be that easy to track an identity tied to a certain bitcoin or altcoin address.....

To my mind the only real reason of why bitcoin needs alt is that when something is market and it's single without opponents, this can control people and cause bad situation and also can't develope. But hopefully we have alts, there are more wide choises, bitcoin has to be best to beat all alt and it's like this, in result, bitcoin is better and it's clear when we see alts. Alts help bitcoin to show it's light sides.

Bitcoin is not a fiat money clearly the only thing with bitcoin is that it's a safe place to return after complete our altcoin trades. That's all I think.

in some condition, some altcoins has spread spamming post on fb and twitter with those campaign.
but unfortunately these doesn't make people understand for what they speaking.
but positively, we need other opposite for balancing btc price, whats why we need altcoins.

While I agree with the things mentioned, it is almost certain that if no altcoins existed, bitcoin's value and popularity would be significantly bigger. This can easily be said for ethereum alone. If it ceased to exist, many more people would invest in bitcoin and that would drive the prices higher.
However, trading and investing in altcoins is one of the best ways to multiply your funds to bitcoins. As the prices can grow or decrease rapidly, it is much easier to make a lot of money or loose it too.

Bitcoin needs altcoin because it will boost the circulation of the supply of bitcoin because it will be distributed not only to the investors and bitcoin market and also for the altcoin market and that is an advantage because there is a lot of altcoin market and that will make the volatility even stronger.

Altcoins are spamming on social medias like Facebook and Twitter. Altcoins aren't just spreading the word about their coin, but they are spreading the word about cryptocurrencies as a whole. That means that includes all the other coins including bitcoins. Once you got into a certain altcoin, it's only a matter of time before you find out that there are other coins but bitcoin is the best among them. We can conclude that altcoins are also promoting bitcoins in a way. I haven't seen someone promoting bitcoins alone. Everyone's promoting their own altcoins.

Yes except it, bitcoins needs altcoins because in all of instrument investment needs competitors, it will makes movement of price and the other reasons bitcoins needs altcoins to test bug fix on the altcoins network, for example the activation segwit had been actived on litecoin's network and it was succesfull, so the bitcoins must follow it for bitcoins be better in the future.

Bitcoin needs alternate coin because it needs competitors. Business without competitior is not good because it may cause to delayed improvement or no improvement at all. This theory applies tocl cryptocurrency also. Without other coin the price of the coins will not increase and without competitors the project may lead to failure

LOL. I don't consider altcoin are competition. I don't see any competition with Bitcoin. Well Ethereum did try once and the hype was so big that they think that a "flippening" would happened but it didn't. Bitcoin will remain as the top crypto currency, no doubt about it. Only competition is altcoin vs altcoin. However, one value that I'm seeing is that in trading, you can exchange your bitcoin to other altcoin it helps with the liquidity as others have said. Other than that I'm not seeing any value of altcoin to bitcoin in general.

No. I don't think that Bitcoins need the altcoins. The latter is having a negative effect on the adoption and expansion of Bitcoin. For the altcoins, it is the reverse situation. They can't survive without Bitcoin. If BTC goes down, it will take the alts along with it.

That is actually the point. Alternative crypto-currecy serves as an option for those people who invest on bitcoin. Because if you want to start trading you need to have option trading where you trade two or more currency in the market. And I look at it as a friendly competition or a mutual relationship where both side or variable are benefactor for the system. And it also a factor for a huge development of bitcoin so we can see that it is much needed on the system development.

Yes, without altcoins the popularity of digital currency might have not reached such a level. This is all because more the competence more will be the growth. If bitcoin alone was found we could have not got such trading methods which were required for the increased circulation of bitcoin.
