Title: [trc] [p2pool] public TRC p2pool 0fee - now 1%fee donations to terracoin
Post by: bitcoinreactor on April 14, 2013, 04:54:48 PM
Opening a public terracoin p2pool, 0fee :

statistics: http://pool.bitcoinreactor.com:9322/static/
fee: 0

miner settings:
login: your TRC payment address
password: anything
url: http://pool.bitcoinreactor.com:9322/    or    stratum+tcp://pool.bitcoinreactor.com:9322
(prefer the stratum interface if your miner supports it ; you'll get better results)

disclaimer:
i take no responsibility for p2pool or TRC problems/bugs.
Mine a few shares then double check your numbers

Note to relatively big hashing farm owners :
you can choose the difficulty exposed to your miner by appending something to your username (trc payment address) :
yourPaymentAddress/+X
where X is the choosen difficulty.

UPDATE MAy 30th 2014:
now running at 1%fee level, going directly to terracoin donation address (obtained from http://sourceforge.net/projects/terracoin/)

TRC node updated to 0.1.3-44

p2pool node updated with not-yet-released p2pool code from https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/pull/123 to support post 175k chain.
(p2pool share chain was also reset in the process, to exclude shares from non-175038 chains).

as opposed to existing p2pool installations until that code is released, this one works on current chain (the one still stuck at block 175038)

The main p2pool is still on the old chain with about 50Gh of power, which is more than all the other pools combined. (Two big pools are suspended until the dust clears.) Really hope they upgrade main pool soon!

Spoke to forrest on irc. He will try to clean that patch up and get it merged with official tree. However since p2pool is decentralized, miners need to upgrade their trc clients themselves. So that's a lot of wasted hash power we can't easily get upgraded. Doh!

<reverse / website / ip> you're sending malformed shares, is your TRC node on the right chain ????

what is your last TRC block seen? what's its hash ?

will drop packets from your ip in a few moments if it continues.

EDIT: ip and hostnames removed for anonymity reasons.

I've just updated to latest GIT HEAD versin of terracoind and patched p2pool with patch from https://github.com/terracoin/p2pool/commit/14b0b75a6aba00304390b7d09fbf6563181732fd

It's just caught up with the terracoin blockchain in the last 10 or so minutes, is it still sending bad shares?

Edit: Last block is 175009 (0000000000033fb8ab001472177229afcba92c4e99681f6360adc444a0bc38b3)

seeing your p2pool graphs & stats, it looks like you did not reset your p2pool share chain, i guess that's why your p2pool tries to send "malformed" shares

or have you kept statistics, while resetting p2pool share chain prior to starting it?

also note that this p2pool installation is fully "experimental" as code was not yet merged into p2pool by its author ; it may be rejected or heavily modified thus making the switch incompatible.

It's just a temporary measure to get a p2pool installation working on top of current TRC blockchain

I do have to laugh at my rate versus the pool rate though:

Code:
2013-07-29 12:14:05.819491 P2Pool: 1279 shares in chain (1283 verified/1283 total) Peers: 2 (0 incoming)
2013-07-29 12:14:05.819817  Local: 1675MH/s in last 10.0 minutes Local dead on arrival: ~1.3% (0-4%) Expected time to share: 18.5 seconds
2013-07-29 12:14:05.820020  Shares: 71 (0 orphan, 6 dead) Stale rate: ~8.5% (3-18%) Efficiency: ~107.6% (97-113%) Current payout: 0.9669 TRC
2013-07-29 12:14:05.820229  Pool: 441MH/s Stale rate: 14.9% Expected time to block: 46.3 days

What time frame is that pool rate calculated over?

not sure, i've seen weird values too, it will grow relatively quickly, then will take way more time to decrease, p2pool probably prevent hoping this way. It also looks affected by number of peers somehow.
Pool hashrate varied in a much bigger way with your new peer entering the game (decreased, that is. almost  divided by 2).

yes, reported pool hashrate was above 700MH/s until you joined, it suddently felt to ~ 400MH/s that may be a coincidence though ; the amount of shares needed to trigger the adjustment may have been reached by your shares.

Ahh, weird. That shouldn't have caused the pool hashrate to drop though, surely? The hashrate isn't calculated from the difficulty...

you're right ... i'm saying shit :) (need some more coffee :p) the new peer probably helped in updating the reported hashrate, it was kinda static before that, and way above effective hashrate.

oh :) first block found!

175093 ( 000000000000252a8640a091475331e90a5f42df4ce71b51d96998adede23590 )

hashrate is really, really low, but at least on top of the good chain, without having to deal with deprecated pre-13 p2pool builds.

i felt on some very old p2pool installations, submitting blocks on multiple chains at once, with very old (deprecated v11) p2pool builds ; http://p2pool.org:9322/static/ for example, submits blocks on multiple blockchains, at 15+ Gh/s :(

Yeah, sorry, I couldn't keep my hashrate going to the node and not cover costs with it, I have left 1x 7870 running on my p2pool node.

I have a shipment of USB Erupters due at my house today or (more likely) tomorrow, so I'll be able to point 4 or so of them back at the TRC node once I can get them online.

oh .. don't worry about that, wasn't saying this about you, but about the whole thing :)

The overall TRC hash rate is sow low, and even worse: some are apparently hoping to TRC when its difficulty starts to adjust to really reflect the overall hashrate, making difficulty bouncing all over the place :(

And I just got a message from my wife that the USB Eruptors have been delivered, so I should be able to get them online later, probably 8-10 hours from now. Now I just need to find enough USB ports...

just curious : are you currently queueing a lot of jobs on your miners ?

Every time a new block is found, i see a lot of punished shares, for "block-stale detected" messages.

No, it's the cgminer default, which is 1 according to the --help output.

Every time a new block is found, i see a lot of punished shares, for "block-stale detected" messages.

I currently have 3 miners running on the TRC node, all HP blades with a single USB Erupter each. The miners, p2pool node and terracoind are all running inside the same HP blade chassis.

Note to relatively big hashing farm owners :

Some statistics :
pool rate : between 8 and 10 - 12 GH/s
current share difficulty: 70 - 80
found blocks in last 3 days : 3

someone recently managed to submit p2pool shares on a forked TRC chain (he left since), but beside that found blocks are on the "real" trc chain.

updated with unofficial patch from https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/pull/133

Was tired of seing blocks from random chains accepted by p2pool.
I'm not sure this patch will be included in p2pool mainstream code though, it's been sitting for a while there now.

If you wish to join this new "experience" install a fresh copy of p2pool patched with above link (networks.py got updated) and enjoy :)

You're mining here at your own risk, be warned :)

i'm monitoring that pull request and will post follow-ups here. Adding a note on this p2pool installation regarding the applied patch.

i did not submit that pull request but i was following terracoin account activity and saw that upcoming p2pool update for trc.

it's been 7 months since that request was merged, but yeah .. trc p2pool network still looks quite good, with a decent foundblocks rate :)

Haven't estimated the whole trc network hashrate for a while, but i'd say (rough estimation) p2pool sits around 10 to 20% of the total hashrate, which looks quite good to me.

FYI: i just reverted http://pool.bitcoinreactor.com:9322/ to p2pool default frontend, because of missing/invalid data on the previously used extendedFrontend.

offtopic: damn ... i miss the old 'alternate cryptocurrencies' silent forum :) stop reading it for a few hours and you get loads of new posts to read :)

Now running with 1% fee directly  going towards terracoin hosting and development costs (using terracoin donation address, from http://sourceforge.net/projects/terracoin/)

This will hopefully help the trc project, without having any noticeable impact on your mining earnings (1% fee is still under many live mining pool fees).

Those donations should be visible once a given number of p2pool shares have been found locally, if i understood how p2pool manages the --fee argument :)

Also updated with terracoin pull request https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/pull/199

Also updated with terracoin pull request https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/pull/199

great! found our first block in less than 24 hours :-)

and yes, 0.18 TRC went to the terracoin project donation address ; this is not that much yet, but will hopefully get bigger over time with new miners joining.

some of you probably already noticed, this p2pool node was updated during the night with the latest changes pushed by terracoin.

Let's hope this is the last update before it gets into p2pool main repos! i'll keep an eye on it and watch pool stats.

P2Poolorg has shut down their altcoin nodes, redirecting btc; has anyone been working on a new public port for altcoin nodes? Please advise on other public mining pools that allow for unfettered access to coins being mined.
