Title: Which mobo?
Post by: LouReed on April 14, 2013, 06:21:38 PM
I am ordering the components to build a mining rig, and I am wondering which mobo would be best? I am using 3 of these cards:

My question is this, since these cards support PCIe 3.0 do I need a mobo that will have 3 slots that all are 3.0, or will a board like this one be fine for mining? This rig will only be used for mining.

Or would I get a more efficient rig using one of these?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Get the AMD board since it's only used for mining.  PCIe bus speed has no effect with GPU mining.

If you have a Micro Center near by they have pretty good CPU/motherboard deals.  I've found that AMD boards, in general, use a bit more power than Intel counterparts.  Try to go with a simple single- or dual-core CPU and undervolt if possible.

with 3 GPU like that you will need to run open case or with riser, so any cheap  motherboard with 3 PCIe will do.
