Title: Ride a cab with bitcoin
Post by: Xester on January 26, 2017, 01:04:27 PM
If you are a traveler and your next destination is Italy there are some surprises that will greet you on your vacation. Using just your mobile phones and bitcoin applications you may ride a cab using bitcoin. I am not affiliated with this taxi company but its my pleasure to let the bitcoin community know about this great news.

Italy’s largest taxi fleet, Cooperativa RadioTaxi 3570, now accepts bitcoin. The company boasts over 3,700 cars in Rome, providing more than 10 million cab services each year. Ive taken this line from this link, feel free to read: https://news.bitcoin.com/italys-largest-taxi-fleet-bitcoin/

Italy probably don't have the biggest bitcoin community out there compared to china or USA but this should definitely help bring more users to bitcoin and If they started accepting it , It means that they had demand on it. If only Uber could start accepting BTCitcoin directly as well , that would take us to another new level.

I was going to ask if they only service Rome, but i can see they offer their services throughout Italy through another organisation. This is really nice and i hope to see more examples across Europe. Thanks a lot for sharing this. It would be nice to see people getting a discount for using Bitcoin, given it makes life easier for both parties.

If you read the article you can read it there that the taxi company operates in over 50 cities in whole Italy. Just imagine the impact of bitcoins in Italy. The taxis aside from accepting bitcoins will be one of the best promoters and advertisers of bitcoin in the area. Sooner or later it will not be just Italy that will have cabs accepting bitcoins I am expecting major cities around the globe will follow.

If you read my post you can read that i mentioned after a second read i saw that they offer the services throughout Italy :)

I dont believe Italy will set the scene for other countries to follow to be honest. I dont believe they have that much of an influence over other nations policies. Nevertheless it is a great idea.

As someone mentioned, i would much prefer if this was implemented within Uber or something, rather than support the already expensive and corrupt taxi companies.

I know it is a small step but at least we can used more things using bitcoin, so I think it is a great improvement, in order to be adapted by big company it is not that easy, but who knows the taxi with bitcoin payment could be a huge success then the big company will follow to adapt bitcoin

Hmmm... I remember reading this story three months back. So how are the things turning out in Italy? Is it going on smoothly, or are they facing some issues with the tax regulations and fiat conversion? I did a quick Google and Reddit search, but there is not much information. Can anyone familiar with Italian language post some recent news about this?

Anyway.. I'll be more happy if Uber or Lyft accepts Bitcoin payments.

Wow this is really a great thing on which taxi companies are already accepting bitcoin as a payment and paying with just using your phone is very convenient even if you dont have any cash on your pocket. If adoption would still continue hopefully this thing would be available in my country and i would really be glad on it.

Yeah even I noticed that in cryptonews about uber accepting bitcoin as a payment. They are accepting from last year feb right. However, I do not use bitcoins to payment for taxi. If I use the fiat online transaction I use to get the promotion offer like small dollar values.

That's some big news for the Bitcoin community, earlier the swizz were accepting it and now Italy cab also accepting it, will make the wallet light for travellers. I had been planning a trip for Italy later down the year and this will really help me save a lot of money, as my travelling money will be saved thanks to usage of Bitcoin. But this transactions are valid right under Italy laws, cause I don't wish to have hassles later on. If any one has used this services currently, do let us all know, how was the experience cause confirmation sometimes takes lot of time and then the price issue so how does it work?

Great news, I'm going to Rome on March, will try to make a ride and pay with Bitcoins.
The more ways to spend Bitcoin opens, the faster adoption will take place. I think that such a use cases are very good example to incentivize other merchants to accept Bitcoins.

Uber accepting Bitcoins? When did that happened? Nope. They are not accepting Bitcoin. Most of the news posted in cryptonews is unreliable and inaccurate. The Coindesk has confirmed that this story is false:

http://www.coindesk.com/uber-denies-plans-to-accept-bitcoin-payments/

Uber is having a partnership with Xapo in Argentina. Cryptonews misinterpreted this news and posted that Uber is accepting Bitcoins worldwide.

It's not the biggest community, but they probably have the biggest taxi business that works with Bitcoin out there. That is nice, I wonder how would a daily life look like if we were able to pay for anything in Bitcoins. The only time I bought something with BTC was when I got some games, but virtually. I actually never tried to buy something with Bitcoins that exists physically and it would be interesting to try.

Of course using bitcoin a taxi company will not change the global monetary system. Furthermore, all we know that Italy has not a big bitcoin community compared with China or USA but they have not also the same population. The matter is that merchants and entrepreneurs start to use bitcoin as payment system meaning more and more people will learn about it and not only a bunch of enthusiasts or deep web criminals as sometimes mass media have said.

Here in the Philippines, if you've availed of the BTCBTCBTC debit card from the larget local wallet provider, they give you rebates when using that BTCBTCBTC card for Uber. So in essence, you can get cheaper Uber fares using BTCBTCBTC.

Well if you consider that The Colosseum in Rome, Italy, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world gets 48.6 million tourists a year.

(2014), Italy is the fifth most visited country in international tourism arrivals. Just imagine if most of them used this service and they paid with

Bitcoin. This is big news.... thanks for this.  ;)

Heard about this months ago. It's actually a very good initiative taken by Cooperativa RadioTaxi. I also remember reading somewhere that a taxi company in Budapest is also accepting bitcoins as a payment and lets not forget about france where buses are accepting bitcoins too.

OK guys... so I had a chat with one of my Italian Facebook friends, and he confirmed that Cooperativa RadioTaxi 3570 is not accepting direct payments in Bitcoin. They are using a third party payment gateway. Users can pay with Bitcoin, and the driver will receive this payment in fiat. The drivers doesn't even know that the original payment was in Bitcoin.

This is natural, because if the driver not understand about bitcoin they will not take it, it's need a more time to educate the driver.
It's just to attract people who already know bitcoin to use their service + to adding more payment option in the company service. It's even not really take effect to adopter.

So, the story is a bit different but actualy this doesn't have to bother the Bitcoin users, it's doesn't make the difference for them. They can spend the Bitcoin and drivers are getting fiat money so everyone is happy. At least I think so. And no matter the indirect payment it's still good promotion for Bitcoin.

If that is the case, you may as well use a bitcoin debit card and gain access to anywhere where visa/mastercard is accepted and claim the same thing for many purchases. I think its more of a PR campaign instead of boosting bitcoin itself. It would be nice if the drivers were given a choice to keep a percentage of the bitcoin for themselves or something along those lines. Creating an actual economy out of it, instead of just dumping it straight back into fiat.

Well it is a pretty good idea
It would be amazing if the cab's Start accepting bitcoin.
It would be very much easy for me as well as any bitcoin user.
Just scan the QR code and done , that's it .
I hope this happens. Once an initiative will be taken,
There will be no looking back.

I can agree it but we have to educate the driver before they accept bitcoin. Even if we ask them you can take bitcoin in the form fiat currency definitely you will find a question mark on their face. The idea is good but they need understand how it be beneficial to them and how they are going to make money.

Bitcoin may be a suitable payment system for such services. Bitcoin payment process may be a problem for a long time. However, payment can be made on the trip. The passenger can complete the checkout process before leaving.

Anyhow bitcoin users have got one more service added to the bitcoin acceptance list. Previously in a tourism service provider bitcoin acceptance was started with the help of a third party service provider who pays them in terms of fiat same as this. But the service got quit in a very short time as there were only few people using the service. Lets hope such thing won't happen with the cab service.

Well this is pretty innovative for the bitcoin community and a next step in taking in more users that are very unknown to bitcoin and I think because of the technology of smartphones and the many users of this kind of devices that have an application that you can take a taxi or car in an instant with just your devices it is highly operational if paying your taxi or cab with bitcoin now!

More and more businesses should start accepting bitcoin because it will not only help bitcoin to grow but also it will help themselves to cater global audience without the need to worry about legal norms of forex etc. I am waiting for the merchants in my local area to start accepting bitcoin for their goods and services.

Now what if that cab driver lost his license 3 years ago due to too many DUI and/or DWIs. What if they decided to get coked up and they crash into a building with you inside? It's an unlicensed taxi. There's no insurance on their part. You and your family are completely screwed because you wanted to spend bitcoins and potentially save $10. Way to go.

Happily to know another good news for bitcoin development for users/bitcoin usability. Even though in Italy not the biggest bitcoin trading volume or always show up on the surface such as US and China. Thanks to chainside platform that had explained and cooperated with the business Payment in bitcoin is made possible, thanks to Chainside, a startup enabling businesses to accept bitcoin. In September, Chainside formed  a partnership with the Italian Union of Radio Cabs (URI) and its founder, Loreno Bittarelli, to offer wallet, invoice, and monitoring services
As long as we have many people that care about bitcoin development even Local exchange that willing to do an agreement for any kind of service to start accept bitcoin payment, not an easy task to do but we have to, right.

This is really a good one for a company in the retail industry to take this step. I am sure this will equally increase the awareness in no small way and to most especially the low class earners since most of the drivers will belong to this category of the country. But what I dont understand is if bitcoin is a legal tender in that country because news concerning bitcoin from that end is not popular over here.
