Title: Please Help! No password for deafault_wallet
Post by: internetguy199642 on January 27, 2017, 01:44:25 PM
Hi, I just migrated from Multibit HD because I was having issues with it and I hoped Electrum would be better. However, when I downloaded Electrum, it didn't ask for a seed or a password, however it loaded the default wallet. I then created a new wallet, however, when I moved my funds from Multibit -HD I accidentally sent the funds to the default_wallet. Now, it asks for a password to move funds out of the wallet, but I never set one, and there were no seeds word when i launched electrum on my mac. I haven't downloaded Electrum before, only multibit hd.

I'm afraid to tell you that It's impossible for that wallet Itself to setup a seed and a password without asking or showing you a message. If you sent the funds to a wallet where you don't know the password of it then It's pretty much impossible to recover your coins without the seed. You could try to crack the password but you need at least a basic knowledge of the password used which you don't.

Yeah, the default_wallet does not come with a password pre-enabled. You would have needed to add a password to that wallet for it to be enabled.

If the wallet is encrypted, you will likely not be able to retrieve the coins unless you can determine the password or attempt to crack it if you know the type of pattern that was used in the password.

it is likely that someone else (a physical person or malware) setup the default wallet in order to steal your coins.
