Title: If I invested when I wanted too.
Post by: thebettercirsh on April 15, 2013, 02:39:52 PM
When I wanted to invest in bitcoin. It was at 27$ per coin.  I had 5000$ I was ready to invest and my girlfriend was all like....I don't trust it.  So here I sit, seeing it at over 200$ for a short time and thinking wow,  160 bitcoins each going up 170$ a piece...THATS A NICE CHUNK OF CHANGE!

at least you can tell her "I told you so"

my girlfriend came with me to another city 100 miles away to purchase 3 used AMD cards.  ;D

It depends on who the money belongs to:
 - both of you: you can't force her to use her money for something she doesn't trust. If it bothers you, dump her
 - only you: why does she have anything to say about your investments?

I've heard from a lot of people not to invest anything that you can't afford to lose.  Case in point - Last year I had an extra $20 in my wallet, found a MoneyGram location and deposited to MtGox.  I'm along for the ride now, and wouldn't sell for anything.

I heard about bitcoins when they were $8 last year, then again at $16, but each time I thought there was just too little acceptance for me to really "invest" in it. Now that I see the world really opening up to bitcoins it has taken off in price. Should have been a bit more forward thinking I guess lol.

I sent an e-mail to my entire family a couple of months back begging and pleading them to invest (it was at $15).  I didn't have the cash but i told all my friends and family I knew had money.  NOBODY listened.  It's all any of them talk to me about anymore.  "should have listened" bla bla bla.  Gotta take a risk sometimes.  I wish I had cash laying around at the time :(.

Depends on your financial situation, if you really can miss that 5k and it was totally your money you should have done it. Otherwise you should not play with it as it is change.

I think it's really easy to look back and say damn I should have invested. If you were that confident about investing (and it was only your money) then I think you would have invested despite her lack of confidence.

I was aware of Bitcoin when it was in the first few months of real-life mining. I started mining, decided it may never be worth my time (then work got in the way) and I forgot about it. I'm pretty sure I had a few hundred BTC in some wallet on a computer that's long gone by now. Never kept it up, and never made a backup of that wallet.

Oops.

The thing is: would you have had the guts to sell at >$200. If you have ever have hold stock you should be familiar with the feeling "it's up quite a bit now, but what if it keeps going up? I should hold on to it, just a little bit longer..." and there you go...

Exactly, a lot of people would have just held on to them. That's where the greed gets you

Better to have a strategy a bit like if you decide to buy something on eBay or at an auction. Decide you're gonna sell if it hits a certain amount and then commit to that strategy and sell. Bank your initial investment and then trade with the rest, that way you can't lose any money

Same here, I wanted to get into bitcoins in december but didn't. Sure I can blame myself for not investing then but everything is easy hindsight :)
And dont blame your gf, I don't think I'd like it if my gf wanted to invest that kind of money into something I am not so sure about ;)
