Title: Graphics card heat control? Post by: VacantPaper on April 15, 2013, 04:21:17 PM So today I was testing my GPU to see how much it could handle. I was mining for five minutes before it got up to 74C, which is when I stopped because that kind of heat is out of my comfort zone.

This is what I used http://sourceforge.net/projects/amdovdrvctrl I don't know what the temp is suppose to be; but if I'm not mistaken, if I overclock my gpu to 100%, it was running around high 70s and low 80s. I mined for a year before quitting and the cards were still working. Sold it to a friend and he's still mining with those stats. Title: Re: Graphics card heat control? Title: Re: Graphics card heat control? Post by: kibu on April 15, 2013, 04:44:19 PM It really depends on the GPU series & type. I would normally say for AMD keep <80 degrees C and you're good. Setting up a fan profile with AMD drivers, TRIXX or MSI Afterburner might be a good idea.

As long as you keep your chip below 80°c, it should be fine. IMHO, the major risk is to reduce its lifetime. This specific model has three fans built in, but I'm almost 100% sure they were running at max speed. And by reducing it's lifetime, say I mined for 6 hours every day; how bad would that be? Post by: bcitarel on April 16, 2013, 12:34:53 PM try using MSI afterburner. i reccomend a temperature up to 80ºC. however, whenever the temperature climbs up to 100ºC the card automatically stops working to prevent damage.
