Title: Effective Antivirus
Post by: IamFuzzles on June 16, 2011, 08:49:41 AM
I currently use Avira, and so far it's worked pretty well. Any criticisms? Obviously I like it for it's price as well, and I barely web browse on the PC I use it on, but I am almost constantly connected online, so any recommendations would be appreciated.

BitDefender - AV
Comodo - Firewall.

That should do it :)

I don't currently use AV, i just encrypt anything important and maintain a protected network.

However at work the only product i would ever install on a computer is NOD32..

That's pretty much what I do, very careful, go to no questionable sites (do most of my browsing on my mac) and then AV on top. Not flush with money at the moment, so I go cheap. Unfortunately cheap probably isn't the safest.

Warning 1.

lol wow, I've been spending too much time reading forums and doing nothing else with my computer. Pirating never occurred to me. How sad :P

MalwareBytes Pro
Avira (free)

Problems?

Oh, and for some reason Norton's latest updates have been doing well lately.

For me Norton uses more CPU and memory on my computer,

And BitDefender is named #1 Best AV software

I didn't say I use Nortin, I'm just reporting the statistics of infection rate I've been seeing.

Who named BitDefender number one?

There are some great free AV's out there the 3 best ones are Avira, avast! and Microsoft Security Essentials all of these will give you good protection and all have good detection rates. Choosing between these 3 will come down to personal preference and how will they perform on your pc. A good site that runs AV tests is http://www.av-comparatives.org/

After seeing you getting warnings, I'll end my part of the discussion here.

If you actually believe that BitDefender is #1, you're sadly mistaken. It's all PR rubbish. Avira is a good freebie, NOD32 is the best to pay for.

I didn't pay for BitDefender 2012 Beta and it working out excellent.

To everyone who reported this post, the 2012 Beta is free.
