A very good example to follow. This is the case when one law for all without exception. I hate the situation when foreign ambassadors violated the laws of the state in which they are located, and the penalty for that is deportation.

Hope the Saudis and other nationality will learned this lesson from Singapore, and kudos for Singapore to implement their law on this foreign diplomat.I agree with you on foreign diplomat that only deportation is the punishment for their crime committed,they should be punished according to the law they where stationed.

Not correct you have morals. I was in Thailand and I want to let you know there is really cheap and easy to find sex, but girls are not so beautiful that you may not want sex with them. The paradox, but there is only beautiful shemales.

Public strokes are not as much about inflicting fear, as it is not that hardcore to get hit in your bottom 4 times.

KETTERING, Ohio, June 25— The 19-year-old American who was caned in Singapore for vandalism says the bleeding it caused was "like a bloody nose."

The teen-ager, Michael P. Fay, said in an interview on Saturday that the four strokes with a rattan cane on May 5 had left three dark-brown scars on his right buttock and four lines each about half an inch wide on his left buttock.

In giving his first description of the caning, Mr. Fay said that prison officials told him he had shouted, "I'm dying," when the first stroke was delivered. He said he could not remember crying out.

The Government of Singapore has defended caning as a normal part of the country's legal system, but the incident has strained Singapore's relations with the United States.

Unfortunately most countries have immunity on diplomats that's why some diplomats abuse it. Most cases, they're just sent back to their home country. Good thing that this didn't happened to Singaporean government and i salute them for teaching a lesson to this diplomat.

I respect the fact that you are seeing this as a victory over the way this would have been treated in other countries that you have stated but to me, I still see it as a slap on the wrist and you might agree that if it were to be a local that is involved I am sure the punishment would have been more punitive than this then the element of being rich is definitely playing out in this scenario. I just wondered the effect of this on the victim that 26 months and 4 strokes of cane would eradicate.

This is still not enough for population growth. Moreover Singapore is one of the most advanced and educated Nations of Asia. Compare the performance of the United States with China or India and Bangladesh.

There are more than a billion ethnic Chinese in the world, and Singapore can easily attract ethnic Chinese immigrants from mainland China or Malaysia. So probably they are not much worried about the low birth rates.

I support applying jurisdiction over citizenship, not the territory. If Saudi citizen committed crime in Singapore he must be sent to Saudi Arabia and prosecuted under Sauidi laws.
It is 100% fault of Singaporean authorities who granted visa to this man and local court can give some lashes to visa officer (just a joke, personally I am against caning, monetary fine will be the best option). Then he will think twice before issuing visas!

At least in this case, I believe that the charges are real. The Saudis are notorious for their perverted behavior, both at home and abroad. A few days back, I read that more than 90% of the female domestic helps in Saudi Arabia are raped regularly by their employers.
