Title: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: massivebitman on April 16, 2013, 11:06:53 AM So with the price drop, there must be a few people who've lost a lot of money.
It'd be interesting to see how much money people have actually put into this thing. Perhaps we could calculate a value of the coin based on all the $ that have been pumped in, vs those that have been pumped out. Not an accurate value obviously.. Just a guess at how much people can afford it to go down Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: ruski on April 16, 2013, 11:09:56 AM More options, please? I bought up in more than one of those ranges.
Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: Miz4r on April 16, 2013, 11:15:45 AM I bought in from $140 and up while we were riding up the bubble, then saw the panic and decided to hold for a while hoping it would just be a small correction. Turned out it wasn't, so sold some at $144 but stupidly bought back in at $125 (the bull in me is too strong :p). I've been riding the waves since then and in total I lost about 50% of my investment if I would cash out right now. I'm not too worried though, I am enjoying this rollercoaster ride far too much and I still have confidence in bitcoin in the long run. Another 'Cypress' could be just around the corner and who knows what will happen then. ;)

Just bought Gallardo which was covered in full by money made in less than a month... having the time of my life right now. Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: roomservice on April 16, 2013, 11:18:50 AM I'am missing "BOUGHT UP TO $2 USD" so can't vote :'(
Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: massivebitman on April 16, 2013, 11:19:24 AM More options, please? I bought up in more than one of those ranges. Ooops sorry.. You're right, I should've left it unbounded... Don't think I can do anything about it now. Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: ruski on April 16, 2013, 11:19:41 AM Lost money? ROFL. Just bought Gallardo and having the time of my life right now. Sweet 8) I've kept roughly a quarter of my cash in the exchange, (finally) got verified so I could move the majority out. I only live on $80k a year, the rest I'm going to reinvest in whatever happens to catch my eye next. No Lamborghinis for me yet. :) Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: Wuji on April 16, 2013, 01:26:24 PM I bought at < $14 (no option for under $20) lol, sold at $230 and now slowly buying tiny amounts as we go back down. I'm hoping for a level off at $30 as that means there are still believers. However, single digits will not even surprise or phase me in the slightest. As long as the price is fair market value I'll go long. As soon as the fools, err I mean bulls come back in full gusto I'll get ready to make some massive profit again (maybe a year from now?).
Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: afbitcoins on April 16, 2013, 01:54:50 PM I got in early sold a little bit near the top which recouped the fiat I originally spent. Sold a little bit more recently after the crash.
In the end I havent made much fiat, but did accumulate some bitcoins. As bitcoins = money, yes i made money. I could still sell the rest and make a fiat profit, but I prefer to hoard the bitcoins. Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: dohse on April 16, 2013, 02:01:49 PM Bought at various price points all the way from $14 to $220, sold at various price points along the way. Unfortunately I didn't cash out at the top but I still covered the investment plus a triple digit number of free coins, which have since been cashed out too. Once I feel we've found the bottom and things are turning around all of that is going back into coins which should significantly increase the number held.
Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: w00t on April 16, 2013, 03:29:47 PM 100 % lost probably means stolen?
Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: drawingthesun on April 16, 2013, 04:37:48 PM 100 % lost probably means stolen? Possibly, although most likely it means lost coins. Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: alcibiades on April 16, 2013, 04:45:17 PM If I sold the bitcoins I currently have, I would have about $3,000 less USD than I originally used to buy (out of about a $11,000 investment).
Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: Zaih on April 16, 2013, 04:51:55 PM SO MANY OPTIONS OMGG
ALL I KNOW IS IV'E LOST MONEY LOL Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: drawingthesun on April 16, 2013, 05:03:00 PM I just did a calculation, if the price drops to $35 then I will be break even. Not that far away now. If the price drops below $35 then I will be negative for the first time.
Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: WikileaksDude on April 16, 2013, 05:05:21 PM Bought 40eur of coins when they were 240$..
shitty i know.. Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: falcoiii on April 16, 2013, 05:35:15 PM I bought $2,000 during the first boom in 2011 - when BTC went from $2 to $30 to $5 in about 6 months. I bought in around $18 average when it was going down (catching a falling knife) and kicked myself when it went all the way to $5.
Instead of selling at $5 to get some money back, I "wrote off" the money and would check the price every few months or so. Saw an article in March 2013 about someone selling their house for Bitcoins and figured I would check the price - $66!!!!?! Sold half immediately at $67 and sold little bits more on the way up to $140. I was ecstatic, I had 10% of my original Bitcoins and a handy profit. But I kicked myself when it kept going up.... Bought and sold a bit quickly a few times (e.g. buy at $150, sell at $170), and my last quick hit almost worked (bought at 188, sold at 25% at $238, $248, $258, $268) the last sell was just $2 over the top. Wound up getting out at $150 for an overall profit. Now I just did a quick hit today - buy at $63 - sell at $68. My best returns are when I put in a little thought and make an immediate buy and future limite sell at one time and walk away - never checking the price. Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: WishIStartedSooner on April 16, 2013, 06:02:49 PM as of right now, I'm still profitable on my bitcoins (bought 1 at 33 and a couple around 55)-
at that same time (early february), i bought a heap of litecoins for my twenty bucks. to my amazement, ive made more in those than would have in the bitcoins if I had sold. I thought hard about selling at 200, but kept telling myself, "no! they'll rebound, you're in this long." I've since decided to have a portion of this investment on hand on the exchange at all times in preparation for what appears to be the next big bubble. Title: Re: Who's lost money? Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: EuroTrash on April 16, 2013, 06:41:27 PM Most of my BTCs were bought below 10$, some I mined myself. I went all in long time ago.
I converted a part of them to fiat in the last crash - just enough to cover all of my fiat investments in the last months plus some premium for all of the hassle. Moved the rest to cold storage. Made a commitment to myself not to touch them before end of November this year. Except for a few grand worth that I left on an exchange - for me to both keep playing the trading game (although on smaller amounts) and possibly spend them once my favourite shops will accept BTC. If I just had slept through the crash, right now I would experience a higher profit (in fiat). So - in a sense - I lost. But the last crash turned me into a zombie and I was starting getting ill. Now I have my sleep back. Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: UKMark on April 16, 2013, 07:06:53 PM I bought in early January this year, also mined Litecoin and converted to BTC, when LTC/USD was around $5, Initially intended to hold BTC all the way, but since the crash/correction I have seen all the damn money being made and lost and decided to join the evolving ride while it lasts, I seem to be calling the bottom/tops quite well since and just keep topping up my coins, then again I'm watching it for 23 hours out of 24, Bitcoin isn't just simply a currency or store of wealth, it's slowly becoming a way of life :) I only cash out to fiat enough to cover my LTC mining electricity costs.
I have also started making small purchases with BTC and not on SR either, so I suppose some good has come of this crash in a roundabout way. A mate of mine bought in at $138 and he's still holding and buying more on the dips. Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: superside on April 16, 2013, 07:59:46 PM I'm still at a profit but every time I put in my bid to sale the price runs away from me
Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: Dr3AM$cAp3 on April 16, 2013, 08:05:55 PM Bought in the first time at $4....$4!!! Ignorantly used up all of those and bought in again when it was rising at about $90. Cashed out and bought in again at $220.*Doh!*
Had to cash out one final time to protect the capital(and teh queen). made a 10% profit riding the waves after that, but in the long run. it was too stressful so I am just sitting on my cash right now until I learn more, we hit the $20 mark, or I have to pay for something online. Would love to see more small businesses accepting BTC, but with this volatile market, it isn't happening. Still bullish for the long run! Quote I'm still at a profit but every time I put in my bid to sale the price runs away from me Had an issue with that during the big fall; the price would not only run away from me, but would also run right over and past me without my coin selling! It was horrifying. :o >:( Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: kalinka on April 16, 2013, 10:30:38 PM Sold a pokemon white game. Paid $12 to ship it. Ignorantly used up all of those and bought in again when it was rising at about $90. Cashed out and bought in again at $220.*Doh!* omg, if buying in means buying btc to spend, then I've spent HUNDREDS of bitcoins that I bought for between 2 and 13 dollars on shit I didn't really need. i try really hard not to think about it Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: massivebitman on April 18, 2013, 09:01:14 AM I think this is one of the few currencies you can actually manipulate the value of.
For instance imagine if people held bitcoin flashs mobs, or a bitcoin protest on wall-street shouting at the bankers "stop buying up our coins" ... "stop raising the price" "stop buying up our coins" ... "stop raising the price" "stop buying up our coins" ... "stop raising the price" Get enough people there, and you'll get media attention. Get media attention, about people complaining about the value going up and... well. who knows. Most of us here want the price to go up, anyone want to organise it. The occupy wall street for bitcoin! Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: kriwest on April 18, 2013, 09:08:02 AM Most people are too proud to admit that they lost. Right now I'm down about $490.
Seeing as I didn't invest more than I could afford... I don't regret it. I do regret not selling when we were at $100 and went down to $50'ish though. Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: Rampion on April 18, 2013, 09:15:45 AM I guess only real noobs lost money. Heck, this was SO fast that only the absolute newcomers could have bought a significant amount of BTC above $100 (which is the aprox. price we stabilized at).
Title: Re: Who's lost money? Some people must have Post by: kriwest on April 18, 2013, 09:25:39 AM I guess only real noobs lost money. That would be me. :) I was going to buy BTC when it was at $45 (before the early April explosion), but I thought it was too expensive at that price. Silly me. Then I got caught up in the hype. But you know what... because of this, I learned a lot about economics, I learned how to spot a bubble, I learned how to read graphs. All in a very short period of time. I also learned a lot about myself. I didn't think that I was susceptible to getting emotionally involved in stuff like this, but apparently I was wrong. Title: Re: Who's lost money?
