Title: Beginners guide to pooled bitcoin mining Post by: Wuked on June 16, 2011, 10:51:36 AM I've recently been getting a lot of questions on how to start pooled mining, and I've written a simple guide.
It currently only covers Windows, but I'll update it for MacOSX and Linux shortly. https://mineco.in/beginners_guide_to_pooled_bitcoin_mining Title: Re: Beginners guide to pooled bitcoin mining Post by: hamburger on June 16, 2011, 11:21:02 AM Hi,
This is great information - you should also explain how to start your own pool mining site ;) You may wan to add under "Get a bitcoin wallet", the wallet offered by www.instawallet.org - understanding Bitcoin is information overload at it's best and with instawallet there is a lot less information to process to get going. Good Idea, I've added that as an alternative method for getting a bitcoin wallet. Title: Re: Beginners guide to pooled bitcoin mining Post by: thinkweis on June 16, 2011, 12:09:06 PM Great advice. I think I'll put that on my site as well!
Title: Re: Beginners guide to pooled bitcoin mining Post by: Wuked on June 16, 2011, 01:29:26 PM I'm going to stick to suggesting people get their own wallet primarily though - I think it's for the best.

Yea, I'm not comfortable enough with the online wallets to even try that. Not that I have a ton of (or even one) BTC to put in one, but I would rather not trust anything online to keep my stuff secure at this point. I agree should be step by step guide for setting own pool mining.

I've been looking for something like this for a while now. I'm also interested in a make-your-own pool guide. Keep up the good work. -Shad3d Title: Re: Beginners guide to pooled bitcoin mining Post by: nixpins on June 16, 2011, 05:42:00 PM Your site has a pretty slick aesthetic, I have to say.

Setting up your own mining pool is a reasonably complex process. The mining pool software is open source, but it still requires quite a bit of time to get it all working - once that is done you need to make sure you have good enough hardware to run it all one, and then you have a pool with no front end. There are some open source pool front ends linked here on the forums, but I don't know how mature any of them are. I installed a few of them before deciding to code my own. Title: Re: Beginners guide to pooled bitcoin mining Post by: Wuked on June 17, 2011, 12:28:23 AM No problem!
I think it's fair to say that most newbies are running Windows, but I will try and get a MacOSX version up tomorrow - work permitting. Title: Re: Beginners guide to pooled bitcoin mining Post by: mg101 on June 17, 2011, 12:37:37 AM Sweet, your guide got this noob up and pool mining in no time!

A shameless plug: We are giving away a 5BTC Bonus to whomever finds our first block! This won't be taken from the pool reward, but from my personal wallet! Please visit http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=17310 for more information Title: Re: Beginners guide to pooled bitcoin mining Post by: Wuked on June 18, 2011, 10:21:38 AM We are still offering a 5 BTC bonus at our pool, which should be a nice incentive for newbies :)
Title: Re: Beginners guide to pooled bitcoin mining Post by: Wuked on June 19, 2011, 11:05:39 PM I'm afraid the 5BTC has been claimed! but more blocks are sure to follow :)
