Cops Mistake 81yo Grandma in Her Backyard for a ‘Suspect’ Have K9 Maul Her

Coon Rapids, MN — An 81-year-old grandma was hospitalized this week after she was attacked by a police K9 while cleaning her shed in her own backyard. Police are now claiming that they ‘acted appropriately’ when they unleashed their dog on this innocent woman.
Choua Xiong got up early Sunday morning to clean out her shed in her backyard. She had done nothing wrong and posed no threat, when police, looking for a ‘suspect’, entered her backyard without a warrant and unleashed their K9 on her.
According to police, a neighbor called 9-1-1 after she saw a suspicious person in a black coat in her backyard. The caller said she heard a loud noise outside but couldn’t tell where it came from. As police investigated, they entered Xiong’s yard and saw a person in her shed. That person was Xiong.

Xiong, who is hard of hearing, did not hear the officers calling for her to come out of the shed. According to police, they yelled for the ‘suspect’ to come out of the shed 10-15 times, however, no one emerged — so they unleashed the dog.
Instead of entering the shed to see if it could’ve been a child with headphones on — or an innocent old woman who was hard of hearing — police sent in their K9 to tear apart whoever it was that couldn’t hear their demands to come out.

The officers could’ve simply waited for the ‘suspect’ to come out of the shed as well. However, they chose to rush to violent escalation. From the time police entered Xiong’s back yard to the time they unleashed the K9 was less than 10 minutes.

WOW Police are a bunch of pussies nowadays. If it were me I would have walked up to the shed with the Dog. Instead the scardy cat cops let the dog go in first, you know, in case there is anyone dangerous in there... pussies, they sent in the poor dumb dog to do the work of the brave men and women of the police force. fucking pathetic.

The woman will sue and I predict the police settling over a few million.

It happens. Such accidents no one is immune. I served in the army and know what to enter in the shed if you don't know what's inside is very dangerous. Military first throw a grenade, and the police let the dog loose.

This is an obvious accident and the police officers are not to be blamed by law. But the fact that they are the reason why the old woman was hospitalized they still have a moral obligation and responsibility towards that woman. They can take care of her inside the hospital provide her needs or pay the bills for the old woman. We cannot blame the police but as humans it is their responsibility to give assistance.

I agree with you. Of course the police are obliged to compensate moral and material damage to this woman. The situation is such that you should think maybe you need to mark the house where you live are deaf. For cars, there are some signs.

You cant compare old lady in a shed on HER property and war situations. Police acted wrong, and its not new for USA police. I think they have many problems with publicity, and this sort of news doesnt help. There were many other possible ways to sort this situation, and not panic and unleash the dogs.

All other methods involve risk to the life of a policeman. In any state a person is obliged to obey the demands of the police. She did not obey. Why this happened is a matter of circumstances.

Facts doesn't add up. How old was the suspect? I assume that the suspect was not much younger than this lady. In that case, is it proper to have a police canine attack a 70-year old or a 80-year old senior citizen, even if she is accused of robbery or fraud?

There are some points in life where the police are wrong and I will go ahead and say that this is a time where they are 110% wrong with what occurred here. Though I wouldn't go to the extreme and say that these police officers are PUSSIES because they didn't want to go forward and face something. Think about it like this, you have reports of a person in the backyard and no one is coming out, what comes to mind first "There is an innocent old-lady in their and is hard of hearing" OR "There is a suspect who is hiding from us and may pose danger to other officers"

Stop trying to make yourself all high and mighty, this was a mistake but it could've been worse if the police force went over and it wasn't an old-lady.

US police seem to believe they're at war every single day of the year. I love spending time there. I certainly wouldn't want to live there because of the sheer boneheadedness and corruption of the pigs there.

Any country that cheerfully supports civil forfeiture doesn't really strike me as one up from any other third world toilet.

No, need for sweeping generalizations and hatred towards law enforcement here, people.

Thank God, the woman is alive and will be taken care of at the expense of responsible police department.

Id actually like to know circumstances leading to unleashing of shephard dog. It might help to prevent similar tragic events in the future.

There is nothing to understand. It's just a coincidence. It happens everywhere. In America shot the teenager with a toy gun, France also killed by mistake, in Ukraine there are 5 policemen were killed in a gunfight with each other

You are calling it coincidence, that's fine, but why does the police think they were right to do so, that everything on their part was fine.
Police are now claiming that they ‘acted appropriately’ when they unleashed their dog on this innocent woman.
Accidents happen, but they should now apologize and pay her for the damages.

It is easy to blame the police. Do not forget that you feel bad when you call them asking for help. Each person saves his life and should not risk in vain. They were doing the right thing. I'd see how you'd act in their place.
