Title: Altcoins... One year later
Post by: MarMoCoin on February 16, 2017, 07:24:35 PM
What are some altcoins that have survived beyond 1 year with the following:

1) Still trading on at least one exchange
2) Blockchain is still moving
3) Nodes running
4) Bonus points for operational block explorer

I'll update this post with suggestions as we go. If you post a coin that has already been listed I'm going to troll you for it so attempting to boost your post count by mentioning already mentioned coins will get appropriate credit ;)

Coins that have made it so far:

Litecoin
Dogecoin
Ethereum
Dash
Peercoin

Those are the easy obvious ones. Who's got more?

Don't really know what is the real purpose of your thread, but it's easy:

-Monero
-Factom
-Decred
-NEM
-Steem
-Counterparty
-ShadowCash
-Bitcoindark
-NXT
...and more more just look at Coinmarketcap

This one is not 1 year yet, but in april yes:
-ESP

Ethereum (2015) has (unfortuantely) been going for a year.
Burstcoin (2014) also has lasted longer than a year.

What are some altcoins that have survived beyond 1 year with the following:

1) Still trading on at least one exchange
2) Blockchain is still moving
3) Nodes running
4) Bonus points for operational block explorer

with these criteria there are hundreds of altcoins that have survived beyond 1 year because most of them are listed on poloniex and bittrex and many other exchanges and each of these are running a node and miners also run node so their blockchain is still moving.
I guess it is best to consider "how many nodes" and "who is running those nodes"
* for example bitcoin has 5500-6000 nodes run by many services and more importantly users. https://bitnodes.21.co/
* litecoin is the same. it has 4000-4500 nodes run by many services and more importantly users. https://bitinfocharts.com/litecoin/nodes/
* ethereum weirdly enough has more https://www.ethernodes.org/network/1 although it should be investigated to see if they are fake datacenter mass node numbers or is it actually users running them.

in short I say survival is not enough if they are just being traded and the coins never even leave the exchange wallet.

Do we need a thread like this here,we can just go to coinmarketcap and see the coin which lasted not only one year but over 3 years, the top 25 coins, they are all still here and have all those you have listed, why not create another one about alctoins that only last 5 years.

I'm not a Bitcoin maximalist but one of my friends is. I was trying to discuss with him the altcoin market but numbers are showing that there are no reasons for discussion. As only Bitcoin goes up, altcoin market crashes. So, I'm not very convinced that altcoins will survive. You can speculate but there are no alts better than BTC. Almost all of them are scam coins.

That's right. E-dinar is just a Ponzi entitling itself as a crypto coin just like nowaday's cloud mining and utter scam, can't even say it's a shit coin because it's ain't coin.

Think about all the ICOs this year, half of them will dethrone half of current top coins, top coins are changing every year.

Few of the new coins that may survive for next year are:
1. KMD (komodo)
2. Zcash
3. Lisk
4. Qtum
etc

Other than above alts, there are many ICO coins that will die within next few months.

This is not a discussion about ICOs or coins that might make it a year or more.

The question was which ones already have?

define "make it"?
many people say an altcoin survived more than a year but the price of that altcoin is now 0.5 satoshi or less. I personally don't call this survival. it stupidly exists on stupider exchanges! with this definition almost all the ICOs are "making it"!

to make it or survive a coin has to have high trade volume, a decent number of nodes, exist on some major exchanges and have a decent price and that price has to be going up compared to last year not be on a downward slope and dying. with this definition only 1 or 2 of them fall under the category.

People are bias and will just post coins that they are supporting and trying to hype, check on coingecko and coinmarketcap to save you time, this is the best place and the only place worth looking for actively traded coin and not people's opinion.

There are many altcoins that survive for more than a year and those has a solid community supporters and investors. Those coins has also dedicated developers and active with the project.

But there are also coins that after ICO, devs are nowhere to be found and just sitting on exchanges. No specific roadmaps and its just become a scam. That is why, be careful to any altcoin you chose, as it will make or break you with your investment.

Just look at on the coinmarketcap you will eventually see those altcoin who are placed on the top positions and which indicates they are still on the chain and people do still use or trade with it.Not to mention but list are already above said by some members actually theres a lot more.

Almost every altcoin will survive one year later. More important, it would be better to predict which altcoins will be next the multi-bagger. The multi-bagger of last year was ETH, XEM and XMR. It would be interesting to see which altcoin can rise in the wave of the bitcoin bull market.

Yup not a single coin worth holding more than 1 month maximum, and that is stretching it. Most likely, if you hold an altcoin for more than 1 month, you will lose your BTC.

BTC is king, everyone is after your BTC, so keep your eyes wide open, or you may get scammed. This does not mean you must stop looking for new opportunities in the crypto world, but right now BTC rules.

This. It would be better to ask which has survived several years and managed to hold onto listings on more than one exchange, and also hold onto their top ten position for liquidity.

There are very few that meet that criteria - litecoin, doge, ether and monero.

funny thing is there are no pure ico that survived for more than one year, etheruem is not a pure ico it has pow mining, all the coins without pow but only ico died already, it could be that lisk will be the first exception, but i would not be so sure about it, let's see

The hope of this thread was to try and pool some collective knowledge but apparently there are many people who feel the need to post things that have nothing to do with the original question.

So can we try again please?

Read the original question and then provide an answer if you have a coin to add to the list.

Save the comments about why some might or speculation or other nonsense.

If you are not sure about what I am talking about then you probably won't be able to post a proper answer so please move on to another thread.

Further replies that are unrelated will be subjected to trolling.

yes it is true for long term hold bitcoin still the best options because if there is altcoins may to survive more than year but doesn't mean the price will always good and for an example Litecoin this coin able to survive more than 1 year but the price has been decrease years by years

The question was which ones already have?
There are plenty of coins has mentioned above which already exists more than a year, but what the point? Except that those coins could survive so far, what your aim, just to make a list?
I think, people should concentrate about the advantages between these coins, that maybe better than bitcoin and could take second position after bitcoin.

NMC
Namecoin is one of the first alternate cryptocurrencies based on bitcoin (sha-256) which offers additional features.
Securely register and transfer arbitrary names (keys), no possible censorship!

NovaCoin as first scrypt PoW + PoS coin. It combines scrypt hashing with PoS mechanism.

Most coins survive their one year anniversary - the real question is, which coins survive their three year anniversary? Or five year anniversary?

Litecoin and Doge appear to be the two solid survivors. The jury is out on the rest.

Do these sites provide info on when the coin(s) started/launched, giving us the one year qualifier?

Cloak, Nav, Neos, Cann...There is a lot of them acutely, but they are have no chances with with new projects with large money invested in PR.
Only one thing bothers me why the hell those ICO are so popular this year. Majority of new alts are crowdfundings, and it's amazing how many BTC are invested in promises. What happened with no premine coins? Is this only phase of madness or what?

I think from the list above that will remain peak is ETH, because eth is very qualified, while doge and LTC is an alternative for traders to play the price. Maybe edg will get in altcoin list that have good price.

Yes Blackcoin is very good coin and rising nicely on exchanges last couple of weeks.
Its "teach" is so powerful and whole project is so good that it is not far behind for ETH, and still it is very undervalued.
All this because of some old PnD game wich destoyed reputation. But this was long time ago..

yes it survives and it has recently spike too. its interesting to see how the coins of the past have been kicking still when all others has died out. there's SXC sexcoin which is struggling in the market and i think its the new dev already. its still struggling though.

so long as its traded on an exchange and being developed by the team, it will survive and will have future value. Take RISE for instance, its being damn call SCAM and still being traded on the market  ;D

bay, wave, xem, and others.
