Title: Put my radeon 5970 to work?
Post by: izzotheschizo on April 18, 2013, 04:03:03 AM
Okay  so I bought into all the hype and I bought a radeon 5970 along with the psu and the case.  Only to find out I would be mining at a loss.  I tried to do litecoin, but couldnt figure it out.  So here I am sitting on all this hardware, what to do?  Is there anyone here that can help figure out how to mine?  My card cost me $250 back in November, and now I see the same card going for $360.  I'm pretty good at figuring stuff out, but I am stuck now.  If I was to mine I would have to pay my fair share of electricity,  Is it even worth it?

Try joining a pool that has decent info on how to set up your miner, such as coinotron.com. And yes, you will still be mining at a profit on LTC, for at least a little while anyway.

In my opinion there is potential for having an alternative to mining when it comes to putting your hardware to work. So you could decide which work to have you hardware grind on at which price in order to stay profitable. I just proposed some service-for-bitcoin exchange:

ok I downloaded the amd app sdk and now I have guiminer running on two threads @ 220 m/hash each  I am mining through the slush pool.  Since btc are up in value right now I decided to give btc another chance.  Once the bitforce asic machines come online I'll be trying once again to get litecoin working.  Anyway I put the radeon 5970 machine in the basement where it could run in peace.  and my radeon 5770 machine is now in my room.
