In the custom hardware forum there is a group buy going on for the ASIC's that are used in an Avalon machine.

The IC's apparently are being sold in 10K quantities only - so a group buy is happening.

If there is a cookbook recipe with BOM file and Gerbers, I would jump on it myself, as I have an SMT house ready to do PCBA - it's kindof related to my profession.   I'd like to request to order some of these, but I guess I'll have to post a few messages here before that is allowed?

ASICMINER are selling some of their hardware.  10 GH/sec, 10 units available for auction:

There is a group buy or two going for this too.

Thanks, I will check out the ASICMiner auction. Looks good.

They're already way overpriced. I would buy an Avalon instead.

Avalons aren't for sale (except resale).  Batch 4 as yet unannounced, assuming it will ever eventuate.  Batch 1 is in customers' hands, batch 2 is due to ship any day.

The units being sold by asicminer are ready to ship.

Compare the price of a batch 1 or 2 avalon to, say, 6 asicminers, so you're looking at the same hash rate.

I found an avalon batch 2 on ebay (linked from the auction forum) for $38000, which right now with BTC1=US$90, is BTC422.  So you could bid BTC70 for 6 asicminers, and there's a good chance you'd get your asicminers before you got your batch 2 avalon.

So, if you think $38000 is a fair price for a batch 2 avalon preorder, then BTC70 for an asicminer is a good price (given certainty of delivery schedule).

Plus, you can buy one asicminer, it's much harder to buy 1/6 of an avalon.

Still, it's too rich for my blood, but there are obviously those out there who disagree.

You should look into getting into a group buy.  I did this for an Avalon batch 3.

I am going to be honest Rodyland.

I would love to, however, There is just so much crap I have to deal with people.

I can host for sure...But I do not know anyone serious enough to invest.

Fair enough too.

your other option, if you want to invest your bitcoin into mining, is to buy shares in a mining company.  There are several listed on btct.co and bitfunder.com.  I bought shares in asicminer before the recent price spike (and wish I'd bought more now - hindsight!).

Or you can just wait it out.  Prices of asic miners will have to come down, as more asics are delivered the difficulty will go up and the profits for a given hash rate will drop.

I want to take advantage that I pay 0 for electricity.

If that's the case, you'd have a pretty compelling advantage over others offering a group-buy solution.

Although, as you said, you'll need to "deal with people".  :D

Exactly...I do not know anyone who would like to do a group buy.

I am willing to pitch in, and all that.

If you're willing to organise a group buy, just post in the Auction forum and see if you get enough takers to make a competitive bid for an asicminer unit.

The auction ends in about 1 day, so if that's the way you want to go, you'll need to get on to it.

Explain?

Explain?

You post in the auction forum that you're trying to organise a group buy. Solicit commitments from people.     When you have enough you can bid.

Beware of fakes - if I were you I would require pre-commitments .   however hosting a group buy requires a lot of trust - people need to be convinced you are notjust going to disappear with their bitcoin and/or hardware.

Thanks so much Rodyland. Maybe if I can do a local group buy.

People can come to my shitty apartment. Lol, and delve into conversation, until a deal is made.
