Title: About the rates at Blockchain.info
Post by: PurpleDog on February 19, 2017, 12:43:39 PM
So, I've created my first blockchain.info wallet and I'm about to buy my first bitcoins. I click "buy bitcoins".

On top I see 1 BTC = €980,69

In the field where I am to enter the amount I see that they are going to use this rate: 1 BTC = €1013.27
("The rate offered by your region's exchange partner. May include fees." as noted)

Isn't it this too much of a deviation? or is it ok?

There is always a difference between the buy rate and sell rate and that's how the bitcoin traders make money. I haven't purchased bitcoins from blockchain.info yet (but I am using their wallet since 2014) and I think €980,69 is the sell rate in your case and €1013.27 is buy rate for you at the time of placing an order.

i am not familiar with what services Blockchain.info uses for selling/buying bitcoin, it is rather a new service they added a couple of months ago.

but whenever you are using any service other than an exchange service, usually you will end up paying higher price than the current market price.

in other words if for example price is €990 on bitfinex and other exchanges (i am assuming bfx has € market!) if you buy through other services you pay €1000 and if you sell you get €980 per coin.
and this spread is always there to compensate for the costs of that service (they have to make profit too!).

I think I'll just buy some, at whatever rate, just to see how all this works.

Later on I can try buying directly from the market.

Theres nothing to be surprised about since this is just really a normal thing on which ask and bid price are really different and just what mentioned above on this way where traders do make money. Even op would tend to buy on other exchanges or service rates would really be different.

maybe i'm wrong but they don't consider the peak but it's an average between all the exchanges, or could be that they considered the last stable value, either it's only indicative

at the market the price is for sure hgher, but it depend on the market there is a high arbitrage going on

In your case, they have the rules which we need to follow. By doing buy order and sell order its normal that there not same at the price, it depends on the volume they have in the market. Literally, speaking that is too much in your situation. Maybe next time try to look another exchange that are much high when buy bitcoin once more.

Difference in price is only around 3% which is not much because many other will charge upto 5%. There will be always some % difference in buy and sell price without it no any service can survive, those difference in buy/sell price is the profit they will be making.

I guess that you didn't figured it out that buy and sell rates are too far and different from each other. Though you can check it also with other exchanges you will that two rates are different.

I just understand if that was the selling price of the bitcoin. and I think that's also including some of the fees. but better for you to buy the bitcoin through the exchange site and you can redeem the fees will be more appreciable.

Rates would really be different because as we can commonly see on most exchanges buy and sell do really have the difference on prices. Please do mention an exchange that do have fixed bitcoin price?:) Theres none and you cant find one for sure.

Demand and supply will always affect the rate of exchange on liquid assets. What you see display first on blackchain.info buy hand is what traders called "ask price" and when you click were to make payment and select your currencies and local the bid prices of that location is what you will actually pay. Blockchain.info is a very strong and trust wallet providder.

I think you were confused with the buy and sell above price. It is totally different on the price there.
Better look for some other services where you can buy in lower price. Try to look here in the forum yet it is a bit hard then.
