Title: Mining Rig with 6 x R9 390 8 GB GPUs
Post by: TheByzantineGeneral on February 21, 2017, 08:20:24 PM

I've stumbled upon a friend's mining rig, which he is having some difficulty putting together.
Is this equipment still a viable option in regards to mining perhaps even some Altcoins or would it be
better to look into re-selling?

Thanks!  ::)

It's worth getting at the right price and running if your electricity is cheap and you can easily cool them.

the challenge with a 1 PSU 6 GPU 390 Rig is safely powering all the GPU's and the riser cards without overloading the PSU or your power cables. Unless you can get a 2000W PSU, this is damn near impossible to do and you'll need a 2nd PSU to do it safely at stock speeds/clocks.

Now if you undervolt everything and cut your power requirements down, the equation changes but its definitely not a "newbie" setup unless you have a good understanding of underclocking.

2 PSUs
1 1000W
1 850W

Was able to get 4 GPUs up, last two still tinkering with.
After tinkering with the other two, perhaps "fried" motherboard
As unable to turn back on.....

Suggest purchasing new motherboard??  :-\
