Bitcoin has been on a roll lately and is 9% away from overtaking gold.

Will February 2017 be remembered as the "golden" month for BTC ?
Will it happen in March ?

Possible. Because the price of bitcoin has increasing last couple of weeks because a lot of speculation regarding SEC decision on Bitcoin ETF. We are hoping that it will be approved so that we can see a good price on bitcoin up to the end of year, likely like in the 1500-2000 USD. But if not approved, then the price of gold should be higher than bitcoin I think.

already in a short time it had jumped from bout $700 to $1000 and there is almost no change of further hike in its value because $300 is not a small increment. Hope so within 6 more months we will have more hike in its value.

As of the the moment, we still don't know what will happen in the next day, next week or next month. But As you can see for what is happening now there is a fast improving of the price value of bitcoin. Now its more than 1100$ almost the value of Bitcoin now, So I think it can be and possible to achieve.

already bitcoin had overtaken gold long back 10 months or so I think and now we have digital gold that is bitcoin and if we could stick to the technology then definitely within few years we will become the nest millionaire because its digital gold and its demand will make its price go up.

we will find new users for bitcoin users in the future, at least the increased demand will drive the price of bitcoin could exceed $ 10k in 1 or 2 years ahead

Could happen, it wouldn't be surprise and I think it has already happen before. Bitcoin price is climbing up and the current difference in price is not too big. Maybe it will not overtake it already in March and some minor price corrections are also possible for Bitcoin but within the month or two Bitcoin will become the new gold.

Right now their wont be major correction in bitcoin price until we dont get any detail about bitcoin getting added in ETF or not because this hike is the reason behind suggestion of adding bitcoin to ETF if it gets confirmed then we can see 50% hike of rate immediately if not opp can happen like 50% correction in price.

As the rate of Bitcoin is rising same time Gold price is also rising, so it will take some time to take over gold price in the market

I do agree so. Bitcoin can not increase anymore since investors can sell their Bitcoin anytime and cause the another panic selling which affects the prices of bitcoin. As you can see, exchanges in China have locked most of the investors' accounts and do not let them withdraw the money. Therefore, after unlocking, I believe that there will be thousands of Chinese selling a lot of Bitcoin

I don't know about this month, but maybe next month with the news of ETF possibly getting approved March on 11th. If so then bitcoin price will be higher than gold since there will be a fresh new funds coming in and the demand will be higher.

I don't expect btc to overtake gold in this month, since we know that in the last few months the bitcoin price has been going in the range of 800-1100 USD (1,147USD on preev.com atm) and there's nothing to push it over that line, Imo the second half of march bitcoin will overtake gold and that would be for a significant amount.

Also ETF has to be decided on until March 11, and that's one more thing that makes me think it will be in March.

As of now Bitcoin price is $1152.97 and I assume it will continue until February will end, but I think Bitcoin and Precious Metals like gold has a Symbiotic Relationship there is an article that I have red about that Different people have different views about the relationship between gold and bitcoin. Yet, there seems to be some common ground. and Mr. Hoffman see that both are fighting against the fiat regime in different ways and believes bitcoin is more speculative and risky than gold.

So I think that even if Bitcoin would overtakes on gold it will still be the same and bitcoin would still be bitcoin and gold will still be gold.

It depends on what will be the flow of the price in the upcoming days. So basically, no accurate answer as bitcoin whenever experiencing a massive price increase, was always associated with some dumps to make room for the correction price.

What matters here is not the exact month it will happen but rather it's a sure thing that will really happen in the future.

Okay that exactly right we don't know really what will happen next and if we predict a lot about this month,  I will gladly say it will overtake gold's price. We are now at stage of price oveflow, and its good to harvest while there's more fruit, same with bitcoin the profit is there and your fuit is profit as price goes up everybody is rejoicing.

I think, This is the time when bitcoin price will move on and it will be more valued than gold. So In few months later we will see that. So when you know that bitcoin is more valuable than gold, That's seems amazing. Then, My prediction is that bitcoin price will jump more and will cross 1500$ soon. As wee see it's a normal prediction, since bitcoin community increase. 

Every time when we come close to that, something happens that push the price down. Most of the times, it has something to do with some

government or China making some bad decision and then the price plummets. I am actually waiting for the next "bad news" to be announced,

which will push the Bitcoin price down. I even think that most of these big hacks were government sanctioned, but that is just my own suspicion.

This is such a speculative question that it is more like a guess work rather than speculation.
there are lots of factors you have to consider.
- there has already been a rise and obviously we can't have rise nonstop
- there is the ongoing story with China and all their crap about bitcoin and wanting to regulate their exchanges
- there is also ETF that will come soon (although i believe it is next month)
with all that said we can go both ways, not necessarily rise only.

Certainly, there are exciting times ahead and Bitcoin is going to over take gold even if not within this month I'm hopeful they could happen by the end of the year.

Now bitcoin price at $ 1,152 and this getting closer to gold price, it is still increasing. But I think it impossible in this month, it will happen in March later in my opinion. And if this happens bitcoin will reach a new record that can overtake gold price. Will good impact if bitcoin could overtake gold, and this is not remembered as the golden moon, but as the golden year for bitcoin.

Just look at the expected possible outputs for a long term and you will see that it's possible.

Bitcoin price once reached $200+ after ATH and now back again at above $1,000. Situation back then is totally different from situation of today why the price rose to above $1,000. Now looking at how it well performed, possibility of overtaking gold price is possible even as we speak. Just keep in mind that "possible" doesn't mean a 100% success rate so the answer is "maybe".

Like I mentioned, eye for the long term and that will happen.

I would not be surprised to see this happen. 11 march is coming fast at us.

And bitcoin is not stopped by the chinese people's bank. Guess a new ATH at this point is inevitable.

If it don't happen this month, it will certainly happen next month. The hype of ETF is driving the price high. People are ignoring the fact that transactions are stuck and already 100K unconfirmed. There are still too much hype regardless. So I think it will really surpass the price of gold.

Yes I'm hopeful we will realize this feet this month even though we have a few days more to the end of the month. I think Bitcoin is doing well and even though the ETF might not be passed yet I still believe Bitcoin can surpass gold in the next few days judging by the current trend in price rise.

Easily that will be crossed and I can almost guarantee people that the new base price ( which for me till now was 700$ , around that btc always remains ) will be approx 1200 USD and only higher and higher.

Yes, I believe in bitcoin that it can overtake over the price of the gold since the price is keep on rising and its creating hype that attract investors to invest more and also helps to spike more. This month, it is very easy for bitcoin to overtake gold and i always believe in bitcoin.

I have heard a rumor that bitcoin would pump $1500 next pump, so maybe, bitcoin can overtake the price of Gold next month, but I am not sure about that. Let's just wait and see what will happen tp the bitcoins price next month, because we can't know what will happen in the future, all we can do is to continuously support bitcoin no matter what. And for me, every month since bitcoin have been invented are the "Golden" months for me, because bitcoin changed me, supporting me, all the time, since I have started doing it.

What's going to happen next is we don't know, expecting too much is not a good idea because we might just get disappointed and we might lose something because of too much expectations on it, like for example, you didn't convert your bitcoin right now because you thought that bitcoins price would be higher than its price right, but you are wrong, because the other day, bitcoins price just got DUMP, something like that.

Although bitcoin will take over gold this month but bitcoin prices easy to fall at least I would have preferred bitcoin prices strong stable in around $ 1000 for a long time probably I want to see until the middle of this year.

BTC definetly has the potential to overtake gold.. but id ont think this will happen in february.

No matter the price of Bitcoin, BTC will not have the same value of Gold.

Even if it would overtake gold , people will still buy gold as bitcoin prices cannot be predicted or trusted.
The prices of bitcoin fluctuate a lot whereas the prices of gold remain almost the same.
Like the prices of gold just changes a bit like there are only few minor changes here and there.
But in case of bitcoin it is 900 USD on day and the other day it is 1100 vice versa.
But yes , buying bitcoins when the prices are less is always a good option.
As when the prices go up you can make huge profits.

It will be possible, if bitcoin continuously rise. Because within month i am surprised to see the bitcoin's price going to up and up in everyday. So i could easily predict that in the coming month bitcoin will be rise at $1200 to $1500. But for me, bitcoin is always better than gold. 

It is completely Outstanding how bitcoin managed to go up like this and it is my first time seeing that it is still goes up every single hours that I am observing it, well I could think it will never stop when February ends cause there are speculation that it will go down the time it reaches the limit of the month of march.

Bitcoin can overtake gold not only for this month but it can also overtake for long run because we knew that bitcoin is called as a gold 2.0 version and it already proves that it is true and it is faster than gold in terms of volatility on its price. Current prices says and proves it all.

In long term, it will surely happen. But just see the current rise in bitcoin prices for the last 4 months. We have been seeing a massive increase in bitcoin prices. Only few times it has dumped but that dump is not for long and it again rises. This shows the bitcoin is not stabliizing to 1000$ + and not forget about prices likes 200$ , 300$ etc

I think Bitcoin will definitely overtake gold, but I'm not sure when it will happen. Gold is looking pretty strong too. However, the market for Bitcoin compared to gold is tiny, meaning it's much easier to move it. There is also a lot of news surrounding Bitcoin (like the possible ETF around March) which also is bullish. For gold it takes much more significant news to move it, so the gains come more suddenly. It's probably a good idea diversify to own both!

Btc will not only surpass gold this month but by the end of this year it will be almost 10x of gold price irrespective of SEC approval or not.

Well no one knows what will happen with bitcoin in future, may be it's price will drop because we saw twice that bitcoin reaches 1100$ and then dropped to 700$ almost. So no one exactly tell you about what will happen with bitcoin in next coming days but by looking on the current situation we will say that price will increase in future.

I think bitcoin will overtake later the gold but not today for sure.
 Today 1139$ the BTC and 1242 the gold.
But of course when you see that bitcoin goes up really fast, he will overtake the gold who doesn't go up.

That is ridiculous. Although I believe in Bitcoin, I never expect Bitcoin's price can be higher than 10x of gold. Bitcoin is not used by many people and most of them use Bitcoin for earning purposes. Therefore, traders and investors will sell Bitcoin when they find out that they have obtained a good amount of money. And then, the prices will drop significantly.

i think the price of gold is stuck to a common price but the price of bitcoin is just keep on increasing day by day and i hope the time comes when it will overtake gold to a extreme level.

Gold is not stuck or staying in the same price yearly you can see the price is increasing but a very small interest yearly..
Unlike bitcoin that you can seen daily the price is changing and the price will nearly $1200 and hope that the price can be increase more soon..

Bitcoin might grow high in price, but it won't easily gain the trust similar to gold. Gold as a commodity has got the digital form too, which gives the users the access to invest in the digital form. Now users have started mentioning bitcoin as gold version 2.0, which on increase of adoption the capital volume too increases. As of now the capital of gold is comparatively very low.

Bitcoin is developing pages, so I believe it will surpass gold. we can easily see that through its previous gains. This is great for those who keep themselves large amounts of Bitcoin. however, I am concerned, if people simultaneously sell Bitcoin, it will be quickly discounted. the market may be disorders, and this is also one of today's top concerns

I think bitcoins price wont make it on this month of Feb since tommorow would be the last day of the month but yet it is possible to reach that amount on next month if the price would rise gradually without any news or events that would block on the way and one event i am eyeing too is on march 11.

I thinks bitcoin cannot overtake gold this february of 2017. But it will be different picture by march. As you notice there is only a small gap between the price of gold and bitcoin and by next month it is very clear that bitcoin will overtake gold. But gold will also increase in value I guess but it cannot match the speed of bitcoin when we talk about price increase.

There's still some contractionary pressure being applied by some entities selling lower than priced. Plus the high mining fees limiting some spendings I think it'll probably take more than a month

The measurements are all off, if we go by mBTC then bitcoin is not close to gold in anyway.  The only number we can judge stuff by = market cap. Media will compare BTC and gold price though.

The price overtaking gold is not really something surprising or unexpected. This should be anytime. Only 2 more days to go so I guess we shall let that be something to watch out for next month. As long as we can stay above the previous ATH of $1163, the sky is the limit.

Speculation says BTC will be going up to 1400-1600 USD. No matter what BTC has prove itself to go up all the time so eventually its will be more than the price of XAU.

If for once we get to see the price of btc is more than XAU, would you consider buying XAU later?  Xau has stand the test of time and its value is very stable unlike bitcoin that kept moving up and down. Having XAU seem an assurance of wealth.

in my area the price of bitcoin is 560 USD/ 12g while the price of one bitcoin is 1200 USD so bitcoin price is double as compare to the price of gold. but still most of the people are using gold as most of the people do not know about bitcoin but when they will know about the reality of bitcoin then the will start using bitcoin.

I think it absolutely can happen. If not this month, maybe in this year  Bitcoin will surpass gold. The price of Bitcoin has consistently increased this month, it has dropped a little, but not significantly, its value is still high. Currently, the price of Bitcoin is more than $ 1,000 and it will increase further. Many have predicted that Bitcoin will increase 3000 - 4000 $. This shows that Bitcoin is very developed, it became more accessible to retailers and investors via ETFs. And the bitcoin overcome gold  will depend only on the question of time. But gold is still a great choice. It is a traditional form of investment and can ensure safety. Combining the both will be more beneficial.

I don't think it will overtake this month or even next month but still there is a big chance or possibility bitcoin will overtake it. Price difference is almost or less than a $100 dollars and it is narrowed from time to time.I think within the first half of 2017 it will happen.

Just 100$ is not matter. The Bitcoin price may up at any time. Compare to last month we got $100+ hike in bitcoin price. So a coming month it may cross 1200$. I have hope, but I am not sure. No, I think not for this month (march) the golden month for bitcoin will happens on the next halping block of bitcoin in 2020, because in that month bitcoin is disappear halp and as we know bitcoin is starting popular on every countries and strart many people who use bitcoin, it will make amount of demand increasing and will make bitcoin's price increasing too more than today.

Yes bitcoin price is keep increasing,so in this year bitcoin has best chance that it can over take gold. Even though many people are not using bitcoin but still the price of bitcoin is keep bumping. Very soon bitcoin will become major saving investment like gold.

I think it's hard beating gold, because gold is an investment that is acceptable to everyone. but I agree that bitcoin is the most profitable investment at this time.

Its really a crazy price increase and we are talking about an increase of 900$ which is really impossible on a short period of time and speaking on the current price we do have still hardships even on reaching bitcoins ATH.

It seems that gold is still the safe haven asset of choice, but Bitcoin is close behind and has stronger scope for the future.

in reality bitcoin is safer and it has been giving a lot of more profit on top of that for 8 years. but what happens is that people trust what is old and in the news. not something that is new and not in the news or is depicted badly in the news.
in the end investing in gold has risks too, price of gold may not fall $100 in a day but it can and does fall.

Yes it would probably happen to overtake gold's price this month and I don't know the exact price gold nowadays, but as I had observe the demand of gold is declining due to competition in the market. Bitcoin price will continue to uprise its value today and people now were always have positive visions of their profit, that's why more buyers were excited.

maybe some people still a bit difficult to accept new things, maybe there is a little fear to keep bitcoin and gold is likely to rise and the risk of falling prices is not as extreme as bitcoin

There is nothing better than free promotion and people's attention. Even if ETF won't be accepted next month I still believe that price won't crash as hard as people are expecting.

We cannot conclude already, gold has a expensive value in the market as time goes by the value continues to grow and bigger and bigger , for now i dont think that bitcoin can overtake gold maybe it will takes a little bit more time before it overtakes gold. This is not impossible because bitcoin gets bigger everyday and many people are interested on it already.

Currently, the market capitalization of gold is $7 trillion and bitcoin is $22 billion. Still need a long time for bitcoin to overcome the gold.

That's a clear statement but that is not for a this month or a month also, it's the total market capitalization.
If we based for this month alone, I can say that BTC has overtaken gold because as you look at the price increase for a month alone, it has already substantially increase and it's still increasing. With this increase, many of us has been benefiting with our short term trades and now we are waiting for the decision if ETF will pass or not and I hope it will.

I think maybe In june or july. Because you can't surpass gold with that time because I think it takes more time for bitcoin to pump. Because for now the bitcoin price is pumping and dumping it is not stable for pumping and pumping so let's hope the best for bitcoin. But I think in June or July the bitcoin price will reach $2500 because that is the famous speculation for now.

I predicted bitcoin take at least three months to overtake the gold since the beginning of March the bitcoin has increased 4% from the previous price if prospects of bitcoin are still good or increased. but I think bitcoin still can't overtake the gold for this year, although I wish bitcoin will overtake gold in the near future

Have you not been watching? Gold spot price is at $1245 while Bitcoin is steadily rising and at is at $1226 if you base it in Bitstamp price. But some exchanges are higher so technically it has overtaken gold. You can see all the prices of Bitcoin in Coinmarketcap.

It will be no surprise that the price of bitcoin would overcome the price of gold .i am looking forward to happen and in the world of gold bitcoin is creating its own empire .acc to me it might not happen that the price of bitcoins would surpass gold this month , but in the upcoming month it would no matter what .

$30+ more and we would able to surpass gold price and thats a new record on bitcoin price which we would love to see. Possibilities is always there because we do know bitcoins price do tend to rise overtime.

I think gold price is a broken record, it was broken some hours ago and Bitcoin is now at its all time highest rate, this is unprecedented and we are all happy as a community to have attained this feet.

Yes bitcoin already did. It already passes the gold price and that was a great achievement for us bitcoin supporters and also the bitcoin community. I personally think that bitcoin will never be able to replace gold. Although the future price of bitcoin and gold will become rivals. After making the historic ATH by reaching above $1280 bitcoin too have crossed the gold value. This time the price chart shows a steep increase, which is been found to stay above $1000 since February 14. Such a long time stability haven't took place in the past, so this time price will be moving forward potentially.

Look at the chart and you will see what is happening to the bitcoin prices. It has passed 1 once gold sooner than we expect and now, it is certain that bitcoin has overtaken gold. In the future, we will also witness the Bitcoin marketcap will be as big as the gold. People are too excited with bitcoin and they do not want to miss the chance to become rich with this currency

I was thinking this will happen near in the future almost 3 or 4 months in the future. But surprisingly bitcoin prices beat over gold prices yesterday itself. But the matter of fact is not to compete with gold but to exceeds to the next level and to set platform for the traders from all over  the world to use it as the main medium of exchange.

It's not just a matter of price. As already discussed, the market cap is a much more important aspect of it. To illustrate, just remember the launch of zcash, when a single coin was worth many Bitcoins, but the market capitalization was much lower.

This is already happenning that bitcoin overtake gold. As we can observe for now, bitcoin is fluctuating its price high. Its continous pumping all the way. The demand is really soaring high that many users are attracted to bitcoin...

I can see BitCoin becoming equal with the price of gold in the short term, but keeping it at the inflated prices BTC has been for the last two or three months is unlikely to continue for many more months.  People have to stop thinking of BitCoin in terms of other fiats or as an investment and instead just start using BitCoins instead of fiat.

Bitcoin itself is more valuable than gold digitally no matter if price is $100 or $10000. do you think any government allows you to go and mine gold all by yourself? nope, you can however mine bitcoin and just like when you go to sell gold to receive cash you can sell bitcoin even more conveniently and easily from anywhere just by having a laptop or cellphone.

You can't go and mine large quantities without a permit from the government, but if you get lucky enough there's no-one stopping you from taking a shovel or a pan and going out to get gold yourself. Sure it won't be industrial amounts all the time, but if you're interesting in making a few thousand it is possible to find small gold deposits here and there.

Gold is more universally accepted, however, compared to Bitcoin.

The op has gotten right his prediction and bitcoin has finally surpassed gold in price it will be interesting to see if bitcoin can stay there for some time or if gold will overtake bitcoin on the next weeks regardless of that these last months have been eventful for bitcoin and I’m glad to be part of it.
