Title: I'm new here...
Post by: FinShaggy on April 19, 2013, 01:44:30 AM
I JUST joined, what is the deal with Newb restrictions? What can and can't I do?

ANSWER
Newbie Restrictions
You can only post in the Newbie and Local sub-forums till you have 5 posts and at least 4 hours on the forum.  The other two restrictions are you need 1 post to be able to send a PM and 10 posts to put a link in your sig.

Just in case there are any generous people wanting to give something, thank you:

If you want to get started with Bitcoins
first thing to do is go to http://www.MtGox.com/ and make an account. Then go to http://www.BitInstant.com/ and use it to put money on you MTGox account. Then g to a MoneyGram anywhere in your town and to deposit into your account. It will be in the account by the time you get home.

Then you buy the coins on MTGox and from their you can either buy things by depositing from your MTGox account directly, or you can make a bitwallet at http://www.Blockchain.info/

(IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE SILK ROAD)
It's hard to find the URL, so here: https://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=o...cp.r_qf.&cad=b

But you also have to download the tor browser...
https://www.torproject.org/

There are forums (basically hidden from the rest of the internet) ON the silk road, but you make a separate account for the forums so you can't be traced....

You can get ANYTHING on the silk road. I got some legal RC's one time, but  they were a lot cheaper on the Silk Road than on any other site.

Quote about the silk road:
"And those powerful people have wanted it down for over a year. The DEA doesn't have the resources to take it down and the agencies that do actually benefit from the extra traffic on TOR. And the site owners encourage its discussion because it encourages traffic."

Check the sticky, but you need to spend 4 hours browsing and post a minimum of 5 times to be able to do anything outside of this subforum.

He could have just said "I'm new" I mean this thread doesn't need much more than 2 words to reply to.

Yes we do...

I got one for $30 once... And I wasn't even in at the beginning. I can't wait till I can afford to really get started with bitcoin though. I've still got .3 left over from my 1btc.

Best,

I suggest people stop creating different threads for the same subject. It's the Newbie section, read the rules and the sticky. Wait your 5 posts and 4 hours and be done with it.

It doesn't take long to rack up a lot of posts. You can get a lot of posts just helping people out in Newbie.

This isn't "The same subject" this thread includes tons of subjects.

Yes, I know it branched off. However there are too many threads beginning with the same question.

I just suggest to read first to find your answer, instead of posting what has possibly been answered. Hell, it helps your time logged in. I just think multiple threads with the same question can cause confusion from "That's what he or she said in this thread". Don't mind me, I just prefer simplicity. :)

But yes there is quite a bit of activity going on in this section. Mostly people trying to rack up their time I'm assuming. Nothing wrong with that!

I am also a newb to the forum but have been lurking over the past few years and bought my first coins at the heady height of $13!
Found bitcoins after the US 'black friday' for online poker and posted about it on twoplustwo.

Pleased to be here at last!

I was new here, I didn't know where to look for the answer until after I posted this thread.

The restrictions are to keep spam down.  Making sure people aren't flooding the site with crap essentially.

And to make sure people don't make 5+ accounts an come beg for coin with all of them.

Yup, probably right as well, although I don't know why you would go beg for coins.  Try some of the free sites if you really want some.  Still, spam is spam, and this is a decent way to control it IMO.

Does it really help then? For me it is simply annoying since I am not able to post in relevant threads...

Yes it really helps.  Having run several forums, the amount of spam you can get with smf, phpbb, vb, xf, iph is amazing.  I had one site getting 20+ members a day that were all spam with 100+ spam posts and it was an extremely small forum.

It is a slight inconvenience, but for a clean forum, well worth it.
