Title: Most reputable exchange for US based person?
Post by: AR15usr on February 24, 2017, 02:02:26 PM
Hi All,

What is/are the most reputable/secure exchange to use to buy/sell BTC for someone based in the US?

The ability to withdraw/deposit USD to a US based bank account is needed.

Poloniex seems good but it doesn't seem you can withdraw/deposit US dollars?

Thanks in advance..

Coinbase is ultimate solution for you if you are based in US.
To know better about their limits and buy/sell option for US citizen you can go through this page https://www.coinbase.com/places/united-states

Wish I was still able to go ahead and say Circle as that was the exchange that I loved the most when we were able to, but they closed service to bitcoin users due to federal regulations if I'm not mistaken. The other exchange that Circle now directs their old customers to is Coinbase which has pretty good service but some people do have some pretty horrible horror stories when it comes to them.

OP are you going to be purchasing and selling on the daily because if so Coinbase offers GDAX which is a pretty nicely designed site to be able to buy and sell bitcoin on the daily as a day trader.

poloniex does not have any fiat markets, that is a common misunderstanding because they have a USDT market. and USDT is an altcoin called Tether which is the same as USD fiat price. aka 1 USDT = 1 USD. but it is a cryptocurrency.

use coinbase or their exchange called Gdax.

This thread does not have to go longer than this. the answer is simple. Coinbase has a reputation that cant be contested and it is probably the safest for now.

Localbitcoins is a decent peer to peer exchange and may get you the best rates in the market, but start your trades off small because you will need to find reliable partners - the odd scammer creeps in and might rip you off on a big trade.

i am in poloniex almost this 1 year and i don't have any problem with them, i think i don't need to withdraw/deposit USD to my bank account, all i need is sending my btc into my local exchange so i can withdraw from that place and i can see the amount of fiat will be transferred into my bank account and its not take too long to see the money in my account.

Poloniex is definitely a better choice than Coinbase which has many privacy-related issues. You can see the comparison  here. (http://www.bestbitcoinexchange.net/vs/poloniex.com+coinbase.com)

LOL.  Yes, Circle used to be a great service.  On a related note, I'm wondering to what extent their business dropped after they stopped dealing in bitcoin.  Probably nobody knows except them, as they're not a public company.

Coinbase, as others have mentioned, is pretty much the only reputable US-based bitcoin company, and some would argue against that.  Their reputation for crappy customer service precedes them.  There's always this forum, too.

You can use coinbase which is an online wallet that is popular to other people and it also supports litecoin and ethereum currency so you can deposit and sell three currencies in one wallet which is good but you need to be careful because it is still an online wallet and there is a possibility for hack attacks so do no put a lot of money there.

Kraken.

Coinbase is a bit too friendly with the IRS.........
That and they're known for closing people's accounts for very vague reasons, I guess sometimes it's for supposed illegal activities, but I've seen stories of people's accounts getting closed for things like gambling.
Can't be sure that all these stories are true, but it's something to keep in mind.

Have a look at these search results:
https://www.google.be/search?q=coinbase+closed+account&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&ei=94UUWenGCLPc8Ae3u5roDg

I also recommend Kraken!

It depends on which coins you will be trading and use in the exchange. If you are trading majorly on BTC, ETH and LTC then coinbase is best for all the US residents, Otherwise Kraken.

Yes i also think that coinbase is the best exchanger for the people in United States because it is very user friendly and easy to deposit and sell some our coins without having any kind of problem. I also use kraken but i don't use it too much because bitcoin and some litecoin are just my coins.
