Title: [ANN] bitpic - Metal Bitcoin Picture Wallet
Post by: OgNasty on February 24, 2017, 08:10:03 PM

This thread is to announce the official release of bitpic Aluminum Bitcoin Picture Wallets and to auction the first official bitpic.  The first planned series will feature 54 photos from the Bitcoin Mining Pools book (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1684353.0) which is available for purchase in the NastyShop (https://nastyfans.org/mint).  Each bitpic will be exclusive, meaning the picture will not be reused on another bitpic.

Features:
  • Professional photograph printed on aluminum sheet
  • Engraved public/private sequentially numbered vanity keys secured with tamper evident hologram
  • 0.01 BTC loaded onto public address
  • QR code linking to the bitpic's profile page
  • Dedicated website and bitpic analyzer - bitpic.org
  • Autographed and numbered in gold pen by OgNasty

What would happen if I made an exact copy using the picture from the mining book? Is there anything protecting this property being exclusive?

Probably the embedded QR code... nearly as good as a fingerprint :)

I'd love to see what sort of quality you could produce by taking pictures from the book, and what image you'd use for a border...  Obviously that would be an awful quality forgery.  Not to mention you wouldn't be able to get your hands on an untampered hologram or my signature and the costs involved in engraving something like this are fairly prohibitive (my engraving machine alone retails for over $5,000 and 3rd party engraving services cost more than you'd be able to sell the product for, not to mention the security concerns associated there).  However, I do have a paid licensing agreement with photonresearch, and he is a professional photographer that would likely file a lawsuit against you if you were able to reproduce the images with any sort of quality, which I suspect you couldn't.

Good reply! Just wanted to raise the concern :)

No worries.  Someone had to ask.

Another reason I brainstormed the idea for this project was because I wanted folks to have an opportunity to see some of the amazing photography in the Mining Pools book, without having to first purchase it.

There are 54 photos total from the book.  I plan to produce each one in the form of a bitpic.  They will be made available for purchase through bitpic.org utilizing a custom branded NastyShop in the coming weeks.  Until then, I may continue to auction them one at a time here, so long as there is sufficient demand.  The retail price is looking likely to be set in the neighborhood of $85 + 0.03 BTC + shipping, varying based on the size of the bitpic.

Received my prototype bitpic the other day and I have to say the quality is much higher then I expected. The print which i assume (with my limited knowledge) is anodized is fascinating. The photos on here do not do these things justice! Definitely an interesting collectible to add to the collection!

Thanks Og  ;)

Thank you for the kind words.  Honestly though, the new supplier for the bitpics is much higher quality than the one I used for the prototypes.  This #2 bitpic came out particularly gorgeous.

As for the interest in the metal print itself, it should be noted that they are similar to photographs where you are warned that prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can lighten the image.

varying based on the size of the bitpic.

Just noticed that part, how many sizes are planned? Is 8x10" the largest?

Currently, I have plans to do 8x10 & 5x7 prints in both portrait and landscape orientation.  There are some unique options available, but they get pricey.  With the design artist and photography costs, as well as manufacturing/engraving/loading/supplies/packaging/shipping costs, these prints cost me around $90 each to make/ship.  If I were to start adding options like floating double prints or special frames, these could easily get up above $500 each...  If there's someone out there who would like something more expensive and custom, I'd certainly be willing to work with them.  These prints aren't cheap though.  The only reason I'm allowing them to sell at the current auction prices is because I haven't yet gotten the store linked to bitpic.org so they can be purchased at retail prices.  I think the more people that see these finished prints in person, the more popular they will become.

Auction ends in a few hours.  This one really is a beauty.  My favorite so far.  I believe whoever wins it will be very satisfied.  I'd bid on it myself if it wouldn't cause a controversy.

Hey now, if you keep bumping this someone might remember to outbid me!

---

On a more serious note, there are a couple issues I've found on the bitpic.org site/analyzer:

http://bitpic.org -> Promotional site
https://bitpic.org -> https error and loads uberbills

When on the bitpic analyzer page the top table has proper links but the lower table is missing 'page=analyzer' from the URL so it leads to a blank 404 (ex: http://bitpic.org/?status=a)

And of course #5 is not listed on the site yet :)

Yes, the analyzer page is very much still a work in progress by naypalm and there are many little bugs I'm aware of.  The online shop to sell these bitpics hasn't gone live yet either which is why they're still being made available at a discount via auction (even though these are some of the best prints).  Last week naypalm fixed a couple bugs and updated the colors on the analyzer.  He usually spends a little time every weekend on it.  I'll let him know about these bugs and I'm sure they'll be resolved next chance he gets to work on it.  #5 is listed on the spreadsheet that the data is pulled from, it just hasn't been pulled yet, as I don't believe the analyzer will be automated until all the bugs are resolved.

Don't be too worried yet.  I got antsy with launching this product early because I was excited about it, the online infrastructure is still a few weeks away from being ready to go if I'm to be completely honest.  Take advantage and grab some of the best low number prints at a discount while you can.  The retail price will be higher than the last few of these auctions went for.

;D  I see that naypalm has already fixed a few of the mentioned issues (and a couple I mentioned that you didn't).  You can view this bitpic's profile page at: https://bitpic.org/?address=1bitpic5xFuae2WkQ4X3PHsucuEoBz7Ch

Sorry for the image quality, but I didn't see a point to having high quality images shown on the analyzer.  Mostly I just wanted to be able to identify the picture.

Not officially, but nothing is stopping you from creating an account at NastyFans.org and pointing any amount of seats to any address you want.

I just peeled bitpic #2 because ognasty is a scammer, an alt account farmer and a peice of shit.

he owes me .25BTC that I trusted to his escrow services and lost.

You can view my signature for details.

If anyone would like to purchase the bitpic from me to repay OGnasty's debt before I destroy it completely...now is your chance.

The online shop should be up and running before too much longer and I haven't placed an order for any more bitpics, so the possibility of future auctions is up in the air at the moment.

Is the online shop and/or future auctions still on the ToDo list?

Yes.  I just haven't had time to finish the artwork to send to the manufacturer and I'm still missing a few of the needed vanity addresses.  Without a product to offer, the store is somewhat on the back burner.  I do have a couple bitpics that are ready to be engraved, and will try to get them engraved this week so that I can list a new auction for you.

Do you own a bitpic?  If so, please reach out to me via a personal message on this forum.  I have a free gift I would like to discuss how to give to you and what is involved on your end in order to make it happen.  If you know of anyone that may own a bitpic and you're reading this message, please pass it on to them.  It's cool to be able to offer something as a free bonus to go along with these bitpics after so long and I hope I'm able to find some owners and do so.

I reached out to you via PM to see if you were interested in my offer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1803450.msg57667518#msg57667518).  Reply back and let me know if you'd like my gift.  :)

I appreciate that you'd take more of them, but I don't see myself producing more bitpics on my own accord and they have been sold out for quite some time.  The address creation, engraving, photoshoot, artwork, manufacturing, & shipping costs made it so I was likely losing money on these at the time of sale.  With the current BTC rate, I'd probably want 0.02 BTC each to do anymore of these (with 1/2 of that going to loading the bitpic’s address) and would want enough orders for it to be worth my time.  I don't particularly see that occurring given the current state of collectibles and don't currently plan to make it happen, so you may have to be content with your bitpic.  I know mine is one of my favorite display pieces relating to Bitcoin, as it is the only display piece I own that actually holds BTC.  Who knows what the future holds, but for now I think I'm happy to focus my effort elsewhere while giving back to those who supported this project.

I may or may not ever get around to making more bitpics, but I have made all of the images public on an opensea collection for those who would like to view them, and if you would like to own them for yourself, they are available for purchase. If you own a bitpic, reach out to me. I’m glad to finally make these images available for everyone to see.

Anybody have any bitpics they’re interested in selling? I’ve been asked about them but I’m not sure if I want to produce any more of them. If you do have one that you’re interested in selling, please post it on this thread. Thank you.

PS - The NFTs collection is still out there for those who just want to see the pics.

Upon making this post it was brought to my attention that the collection had been suspended for trading.  After some discussions with OpenSea it was discovered that someone (I won't mention who) reported the collection as being a violation of their copyright & linked to securities.  I went through the steps to prove that this was untrue and that these are not linked to any securities as well as me being the copyright owner.  As a result, the collection is back and once again for sale for those who might want to own the digital copies of these images.  Saboteurs abound but we keep moving forward!

I've still got my 3 physical editions. No plans to sell or redeem anytime soon.

I'm tempted to make more as I think they're awesome and should exist, but it isn't something I really want to do as a lot of time and effort went into them.  I think I overestimated the interest these ladies would receive.  One of these days maybe...
