Title: Sold @ 135
Post by: NikolaTesla on April 19, 2013, 08:30:01 AM
Thanks for that fun rocket blast up to 135.

Definitely not bearish, but this is going up a little too fast. We're in for an intra-day correction I think, at which time I'll buy back in - hopefully soon!

Haha lucky you! My Bitcoins are at home whilst I am at uni. I thought about calling my girlfriend to make a transfer to BTCE but though better of it. I took them off the exchange to stop me wasting time day trading. :)

Good luck with buying in sub $100. I wouldn't be surprised.

Smart move BUT I don't think sub-$130 will be anything other than a blip, there's a very narrow window to get back in without passing up on profits.

A little consolidation at $130 would be a good thing, build some Bid walls up again.

I'm pondering consolidation around 130 also, I'm not convinced this is going to drop just yet. And heck, if we are getting back into the old rally mode it may just sit around here for a couple hours before it continues.

Come on it sat at 90 for 1 day.  This is somebody just messing with it.  It's going back to $100-110 sometime today.

Also: when the market's like this you can afford to sit out a small gain.

I did yesterday when the lag spiked and then shifted to bringing the MtGox website down.

I passed on about $10 of the rise but felt good to not be exposed in new territory.

Risk management I suppose.

I would not be surprised if it still goes higher than $135. I am just playing it safe - especially considering I have to go to sleep now and a lot can change in 8 hours for better or worse.

+1 This is still in Rally mode until I see differently, all drops below peaks are picked up fairly fast and general trend is still quite bullish....Pigish :)

$111 - $109 should hold, but this is bitcoin when all said and done :D Whatever you do don't sell at a loss!

I'm wondering how many people who bought in at $130 ish are now selling :/

I hope no one on this forum who bouht at 130 would sell at a loss with the kind of volume we are having today...US banks havent opened yet...I scooped a few coins on BitStamp at 110 but now all my fiats dried up on exchanges(DAMN YOUR TIMING BITFLOOR) till US banks open...come on guys hold or buy..if it goes above 150 before 9 AM est I may sell to buy into another correction..I think a lot of the new people(at least those left after the 12 th)who bought into the "bubble" in early April are gonna cash out of this roller coaster at the first sign of breaking even,so 150 being a nice round number will see a  lot of action.I personally know one guy whos marriage may be saved if we see 160 soon.(took  out high 5 figure loan to buy BTC around april 8th).However maybe all the new blood has been scared outta market and we will see no real action at 150,so no time to buy like the present,though I am hoping for a correction around 150.

Darn! I had a sell order for 100 BTC @ 135, but I cancelled it when the price was around 130, thinking we'd go right through. Had I sold 100 BTC @ 135, and bought back @ 125, I'd have gained 7 BTC.

OUCH sums it up...got tired of hearing us at work(3 of us) talk about money(actually at time it was net worth since we hadnt sold any)we made on our BTC holdings...which combined between myslef and 2 others was like maybe 600 btc...so he decided he needed  to outdo us all.He listened to my advice and read up on the wiki then went against my advice and got a quickie home equity loan to buy BTC..it was a SURE thing he told his wife..ALL the GEEKS at work are into it..well he bought in around the 8th or 9th and I know he didnt sell cause his wife came down to the job site to berate us for getting her husband into this mess.so yah there is still some real stupid money in BTC.

How dare you come on these forums and ask for sensibility.

I'm am relatively clueless about trading compared to a professional trader or broker (although I've been trading stocks for almost 25 year).  The professional traders have a bit more insight but you can't try to explain the behavior of some 23 year old pot smoking kid who's got 10 rigs in his garage mining away LTC and buying coins in between puffs.

I think it's all luck, you can see all the cups and handles and boobs in the graph that you want...

Nikola thinks it'll go lower. I believe $110.25 was the bottom for today. One of us is right :)

Bitcoin's volatility has impressed me several times before, though. I went +50,000 USD in with speculative capital the day when it smashed from 90->50 about 84 hours ago.

No, I did not buy at 50, my average buy point was 86! That was my smartest guess, which was outsmarted by the herd that day.

Anyway, half of that position is still long (half sold after a day at 92) and I will sell it according to schedule for a profit.

If it goes below 90, I will buy back. I am short term bearish for anything above 130.

thats kind of what I am saying though..I think there are quite a few people who got in ver their heads.They bought in at 170+ saw it go to 50 and now will just want out.I will be surprised if he doesnt sell as soon as it hits break even territory.because if he blows this chance he may lose a wife,or maybe he will say screw you to her rd eit out and buy a maserati to pick up his new wife...no idea really just putting one real world example out there that I believe reflects a percentage of the post bubble BTC holders out there..but yah lets swing for 170 going into the weekend.Any higher too soon might have people on edge.we can always hit 300 next weekend.

Yeah well I wasn't able to get any money into Gox until yesterday (missed the $50 buying opportunity).  I did get in at $90, sold on the second blip at $130.  I bought back in at $120 and I'm going to sleep.

People will neglect their health at the hopes of making easy money.  Money has no purpose when you're dead (other than to distribute your estate haha).

Guys what's with the constant emo bear pessimism?

Get a grip.

The market has survived a parabolic rise and subsequent correction. This gives every reason to be bullish.  $135 is a very fair price an I fully expect it to continue rising in the coming weeks and months.

$110 being tested, not much support there but it's growing.

I don't think $100 needs to be worried that much - if it holds 3 figures today after having posted $135 I'll be happy.

I wouldn't sell at 1000$

I am not here to day trade and all that stress, to get 1x more or 4x more here and there even if I could pick the tops an bottoms.

What  I am into is the orders of magnitude increase of BTC, 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 etc.

This really out weighs most benefit i could get by trading.....yeah sure I could buy and sell, but I going to miss the boat at some point is a sell, and then its going and order of magnitude on me, not comming back, and thats that.

Yup. Add to that the fact that day-traders are highly exposed to optimism bias and selective memory. Furthermore, the bitcoin market is likely a fun toy for experienced Wall St. traders who get to manipulate a thin market and fleece a bunch of 23yr olds who think they have it "figured out".

Day trading is a negative-sum game. Very similar to poker. In poker, an analysis of large online hand databases suggested that about 2/3 of players lost, and that the vast majority of the 1/3 that actually ended up ahead, only ended up very slightly ahead (ie, not even close to being worth the time). I'd love to see a survey of the 2/3 of losing players and how many of them *think* that they win....again, optimism bias and selective memory.

Here's one for you:

"A part of all you earn is yours to keep." (http://slightedgediary.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-richest-man-in-babylon-and-faith.html)

If you need money (fiat) for something, fine, but always keep 10% of your coins for the future. Invest it as it were. If I had done that properly, and then cashed out at $200+, my mining profits would have been about half of my yearly income just from that 10%. Anyway, I'm holding now and thinking next major sell I'm going to do will be at $500. It might take months or even a year or more to get there, but when we do, I should be sitting on close to 100 BTC if not more. At some point in the next few years, when the price is high enough I'll cash out of 90% of my coins and pay off my house. :-D

Jumped back in yet or are you waiting for $200?

Poor guy hasn't been able to:

I've played the market 3 times and won all 3...
$104 --> $235
$88  --> $100
$104 --> $135

The sell at $135 was actually good because it dropped down to $120 for a few days after that. I just never bought back in (thought it was gonna go down further), and now it's shot back up to $155.

...snip...
