Title: gaming while mining? Post by: Badewahn on April 19, 2013, 12:41:52 PM is it possible to reduce the process priority of the mining client so i can play games?
i did a few hours seti before, but this wasnt processed by the gpu thx for any help :) Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: jamh on April 19, 2013, 01:02:09 PM Bump
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: mkmen on April 19, 2013, 01:10:34 PM yeah, you could play minesweeper if you reduce your intensity ;)
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: kendle on April 19, 2013, 01:12:11 PM I game (BO2, Planetside) while my second 5870 is mining. Works fine.
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: mkmen on April 19, 2013, 01:17:57 PM well sure, if you have two or more GPUs then it's probably ok, but with one i doubt it, maybe on really low intensity
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: antekh on April 19, 2013, 01:36:50 PM Usually people use cards only for mining, and when playing you can stop mining.
Generally you can play at lower intensity of mining, but usually it's not worth it. I recommend either getting a second card for mining and keep your current card for playing or stop mining when you play Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: nebulus on April 19, 2013, 04:49:08 PM it's not worth it. This...Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: sabbah on April 19, 2013, 05:39:28 PM only offline card games ;)
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: Badewahn on April 19, 2013, 06:20:32 PM i have read sth about this, so i know lowering the intensity isnt worth anything.
but what i wanted to know is if i can lower the process priority, so my miner only uses whats free to use. this wont be much but it would regulate it self. i know it is possible with a cpu Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: Kennji on April 19, 2013, 06:25:46 PM I would not game while mining.
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: Isokivi on April 19, 2013, 06:27:41 PM Yes you can play while you mine.. even gpu intensive 3d games. Set lower intensity, agression or whatever term your mining software of choise uses. If you see a crash try even lower, and remove overclocking.
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: neversummer89 on April 19, 2013, 06:47:11 PM I'll have to try this
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: Valalvax on April 19, 2013, 06:48:26 PM I've tried it, it's not really worth it, at least with the cards I had (5830s and 5850s) mining speed was so slow that it would have been better to CPU mine on another PC
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: khimaira on April 19, 2013, 06:48:58 PM I've found that I can mine TRC pretty effectively while gaming, but BTC/LTC/etc aren't possible unless the intensity is way down, and it's not worth it at that point
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: c0ikws on April 19, 2013, 06:53:02 PM I play game with Guiminer running and have no problem even on max setting, although my hash rate drop to 350 while playing lol (w/ 7950)
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: TheSixthDependency on April 19, 2013, 06:53:22 PM If you mentioned which miner you're using it would be easier to tell you what you can do.
With most you have control over the number of gpu threads, I suggest lowering it until you're able to game. Chances are you won't have acceptable gaming OR mining performance, unless you really have a beast of a card. Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: Badewahn on April 19, 2013, 07:02:52 PM i have the guiminer
i think the command for lowering the gpu usage would -f(x) of course i can try to find the right x for every game isnt it possible to reduce the priority of guiminer in the gpu like it is possible to reduce the priority of cpu processes with the taskmanager Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: Brewins on April 19, 2013, 07:18:40 PM If i set my intensity to like 4, i can play tf2 with like 70fps, while still doing around 350mh/s on my 7950 :)
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: roybitcoin on April 19, 2013, 07:19:55 PM I´m just tested play WOW with GUIMiner running and have no problem. I default settings. I have a 6750 GPU :)

Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: vm1990 on April 19, 2013, 08:19:52 PM depending what miner you use if you use GUIminer then use the -f60 this allows GUIminer to give 60% to the system i use -f30 and can play most games on medium quality or just pause the 1st gpu and play games on that while the 2nd gpu mines away in the background
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: TheSixthDependency on May 01, 2013, 12:40:03 AM After some tests I've noticed BFGMiner seems to slow down if I'm gaming, it doesn't seem to impact game performance significantly.
Title: Re: gaming while mining? Post by: gamecoin on May 01, 2013, 12:57:47 AM You can use one card for mining while one for gaming without any problems?
