Title: What's the point of free bitcoins websites? Post by: naphto on April 19, 2013, 01:28:55 PM I have spent a couple of hours with that, got around 2 mB and still can't send the first satoshi to anyone because of mining fees (using http://blockchain.info).
What's the point of free bitcoins websites? Title: Re: What's the point of free bitcoins websites? Post by: bennett616 on April 19, 2013, 02:07:46 PM I own a site that has a BTC faucet giving out 20 uBTC EVERY hour. The main purpose of my site is to help BTC beginners to gain a good understanding of how Bitcoin works. I have a step by step guide on how to set up a wallet, i am working with a developer to create a secure online wallet on my site. I give out free BTC to give the currency and community more exposure. Yes it may not be a huge amount but I dont have a huge amount myself. My site is not profit based! I just want to give beginners the perfect introduction to BTC :)

I obviously need a source of income to develop the site and keep it running. I take NO money out of the site!
Please read this, cba telling you the same thing that I tell other person that has a problem with CoinURL being on my site https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179300.0 Andy B Title: Re: What's the point of free bitcoins websites? I guess you have spend a lot more than a couple of hours to get a useful amount of BTC. Wasn't always the case when BTC was worth less. What's the point of free bitcoins websites? There's not a lot of point. It's mostly for people without a job and nothing better to do, like Swagbucks etc. Title: Re: What's the point of free bitcoins websites? What's the point of free bitcoins websites? if you are holding a large amount of bitcoin than giving newbies a way to get a toe in the water increases the likelyhood that they will buy a serious amount of btc. If they do this than it increases demand for btc and thus increases the price of btc. So a person who is holding a large amount of btc can actually gain more from giving away btc than they have given away, in nominal terms. also im sure some people just like to be nice Title: Re: What's the point of free bitcoins websites? Post by: bennett616 on April 19, 2013, 04:45:20 PM I get a income off the ads on my site and the CoinURL links on the Free BitCoin page..... I then use this income to fund the faucet and give out free BTC's to beginners to get them into the swing of things...... I do literally give out FREE BTC's. I do not take any money out of the site AT ALL. I want BTC to be a success and 1 way that I personally can contribute to that is to have a site that is easy to follow for beginners to get more people using Bitcoin. I am creating this site in my free time for absolutely no pay. I do not see why alot of people are negative about what i am doing.... I am only trying to help!

I am only trying to help! Not so much being negative as recognising that - in spite of what you are doing - it's frustrating for newbies that they can't quickly get hold of enough bitcoins to really start using them as currency. But that's just the way of things now, bitcoins are no longer easy to come by and they aren't just "maybe worth something some day", they are worth quite a lot today. Transaction fees are getting expensive is really the point I think. Even when I started trying to get a few satoshi together (not so long back, when BTC was ~$10) I had started using a wallet at 'flexcoin' to collect up what I could get for free from faucets etc. and was quite upset to later discover that it would cost me more than I had made after hours wasted clicking links, watching videos, refreshing pages trying to catch bigger prizes and so on, just to transfer money out of the flexcoin wallet (always read the smallprint!). Now payouts are much lower and everyone is applying mandatory transaction fees for the network too. So it really is hard for newbies, but IMHO they need to understand that bitcoins are not just a toy currency, hence they don't come free. Otherwise they are just as likely to get frustrated and give up on it as they are to get interested and go buy some. Doesn't mean I think what you're doing is bad at all. I'm sure plenty of newbies are grateful. Title: Re: What's the point of free bitcoins websites? Post by: Kennji on April 19, 2013, 06:55:12 PM Free is never good lol
Title: Re: What's the point of free bitcoins websites? Post by: DannyHamilton on April 19, 2013, 07:03:02 PM When you receive a service for free, you can generally assume that you are not the customer, you are the product that is being sold. Most often you are being sold to an advertiser. The advertiser is the customer.
This is true of Facebook, Google, and "Free Bitcoin" sites. Whatever it is that you are receiving for "free" is intended as a lure to entice you to voluntarily offer yourself up as a product to be sold. Title: Re: What's the point of free bitcoins websites? Post by: jt7382 on April 19, 2013, 07:47:28 PM Helps to spread BTC, sometimes people get paid via the ads, etc.
Title: Re: What's the point of free bitcoins websites? Post by: naphto on April 19, 2013, 08:11:16 PM Ok thank you, I got it, I'll stop wasting my time.
I will consider those coins as "lost", unless the fees goes much lower than they actually are. Title: Re: What's the point of free bitcoins websites? Post by: bitcoingenerat0r on April 19, 2013, 08:26:48 PM It pays like the PTC sites but at least I no need to give my Paypal. :D
