Title: Bitcoin was always meant to be used to purchase a cup of coffee or a can of soft
Post by: Scronty on February 27, 2017, 10:04:02 AM
Afternoon, All.

Just a friendly reminder:

Bitcoin was always meant to be used to purchase a cup of coffee or a can of soft drink or a candy bar:

Quote
It might make sense just to get some in case it catches on.  If
enough people think the same way, that becomes a self fulfilling
prophecy.  Once it gets bootstrapped, there are so many
applications if you could effortlessly pay a few cents to a
website as easily as dropping coins in a vending machine.

The only shop that accepts coffee was starbucks. There are restaurants that accepts bitcoin and they also serve coffee in their menu. But vending machines is still not available it is maybe due to long confirmation of bitcoin transaction. If thats the case if you order coffee in the vending machine it will take hours before it gets credited and you will get tired of waiting.

People thinking about bitcoin is just for buying things or for self enjoyment only, I think they don't realize that other people are having a hard time in getting bitcoin I really think small things that we can do with bitcoin are just a free stuff or small things we can do with it if you are happy with just that then I think you can't realized the big potential in having this kind of coins, cause if you have bitcoin you can have freedom, free time, and a variety of things you can accomplish with it!

I think using bitcoin on buying stuffs that is not that important is not worth it at all, we have this thing called fiat for this, and bitcoin is just for those transactions that we know that we have no choice but to pay in bitcoin. It is not easy to earn bitcoin, because it requires effort, time, and dedication on doing it, because if you are not, you are not here today, on this forum doing signature campaign to earn bitcoin and other ways to earn some.

So, if we could buy things like what you have said in Fiat, then let's not use our bitcoin, though we have our own choices, but it is just my opinion on not to use it on things like this, because it is worthless.

I wouldn't fully agree. Why wouldn't we spend Bitcoins on anything we want and like? Why would spending Bitcoins be reserved just on certain things? Today we also have Bitcoin debit cards that make life easier and give us more opportunities to spend the coins. Besides some people would like to use Bitcoin as much as they can and not reliy just on fiat because they want to avoid banks whenever it's possible.

I guess vending machines etc low values transaction may be the best application for the so-called lightning network. Imaging if I have to wait 1 confirmation for 1 beer, it might take a minute to hours- should I stand in front of it to wait, with a long queue behind? If 0 confirmation is acceptable, it will be easy to "double spend" the transaction with a extra low fee tx and another higher fee tx after I got my beer... So the off-chain network maybe more suitable.

well this is true but sad also.
after 8 years we have come a long way but also we are so far away from that target when we can actually consider bitcoin as something we use to pay for day to day stuff such as a cup of coffee. the transaction fees can soon go up to be as expensive as a cup of coffee!

And it was nice,  bonding with them to get some tips and idea about in bitcoin.

As quoted Starbucks is the one that accepts bitcoin for their service. At the same very few were interested to spend in Starbucks as everything is expensive. These days more stores which operates without a brand image have started accepting bitcoin. When confirmation issues were solved we can use vending machines for coffee.

Like any other currency, bitcoin was also introduced to become the currency of the internet where people can transact money in internet with ease and anonymity. I guess that was the basic goal. However, with the changed and increased market share and dynamics, bitcoin has been widely accepted as an investment due to the huge upside potential.

I too think that spending bitcoin for buying coffee or any other daily goods is idiotic because, you are actually paying a part of your fortune to the shop owner. The money you will spend in bitcoin to buy a cup of coffee, will have a different and higher value in future, so which could have given you a good amount of profit, you spent for coffee. I too take bitcoin as an investment only and loving it!

Thank you for posting this.  I'm really sick of people spreading the misinformation that Bitcoin shouldn't be used for small payments to promote their small block agenda.  They will say "oh we need to get rid of dust, spam, and anything too small... that way there will be plenty of room at 1mb blocks and we shouldnt be increasing the blocksize."

The biggest issue is currently the expensive and slow transactions. As @7788bitcoin pointed out, transactions are to long to wait for a small item (and unconfirmed transactions are not guaranteed), not to mention the fact that the fees for a somewhat fast transaction (like 10 minutes to an hour) could exceed the price of a small item being bought. Currently it's possible to fund a debit card with bitcoin or merchants could switch to an altcoin that supports faster transactions, but I feel this is an issue that needs to be dealt with before bitcoin can go mainstream.

I think you are right in what you are saying regards everyday transactions,  but i also think that we have to base or decision in the reality of the world around us.  currently it costs around £0.35  for me to make a transaction, would i want to buy a can of Pepsi from a vending machine that was adding a fee like that.  The clear answer is NO.

Yes it would be great if it were so but it just isnt.  however if i had £20,000 in Gold and i had to pay £0.35 to send it across the world or even move it within my own boarder then i would be delighted.  its about perspective.

Considering the price of 1 btc to be $1193 as I'm writing this it's unlikely for an alt to overtake bitcoin as of now. It's too big to fail right now unless the core team messed up tremendously

Do not get to complacent about this. Bitcoin can be replaced by anything else, if it gets the backing of governments. We have banks and financial institutions working hard on developing "Blockchain" based technologies to replace Bitcoin and we know they already have the governments backing.

This smug attitude from people that Bitcoin cannot be "Trumped" will be their downfall in the future.

Bitcoin is not for Buying coffee, can of softdrink or a candy. This is not only the use of bitcoin. Bitcoin has many feature, it is not only for buying coffee, or something. This Bitcoin have many use like earning, transacting anonymously, Using this coin to transact to any countries and many more. If you use bitcoin as buying coffee, why you need to use bitcoin? You can use your fiat money to buy it easily.
