Title: BFL video of a 5 GH/s hashing rig
Post by: anonymous_hero on April 20, 2013, 04:23:10 AM
Here's BFL's latest video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uez9AVfDQIg), showing a 5 GH/s miner in what is suspiciously not a Jalapeno case.  The power consumption isn't as bad as what their apparent first attempts were getting, though.

Speculate away as to the (non)meaning of this video.  My take is that actual customers will start receiving their orders around the last half of May.

It seems consistent with what they've been saying...higher power consumption means original Jally case is unworkable, hence the larger case (and perhaps a fan in there), external power supply, since they are way over initial estimates. Not sure how they will manage to cool the singles properly, and the Minirig? D'oh!

It does seem like they've made some progress on the power problem, and the software/firmware is improving also. Still hard to speculate on shipments though.

no... it's easy to figure out shipping...

right now inaba is posting in these forums attacking a customer of bfl... instead of shipping imaginary asics.

From what I see in the video it's 36 Watt.

So:
Jalapeno (5 GH/s): 36 Watt
Little Single (30 GH/s): 216 Watt

216 Watt is roughly what the cooler of a 7970 GPU has to dissipate.

Now look at the cooling solutions:

Yup, that's what I was talking about. They were assuming they had to cool 60 watts, now it's 200.

Are those images to scale?

Should be.

The heatsink has to
- cool the 8 chips on the PCB
- fit in a casing about the size of this PCB

See for yourself:

Hey Josh,

Who killed the FPGA market with bullshit like 1w/GH/s and dumping prices and failed to deliver?
Who promised 1000 BTC to charity if fails to achieve the power goal?
Shut the fuck up and DELIVER or REFUND or go to RESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (you and your bosses)

Coding in my Sleep.    One of first articles I read while deciding whether to buy a minirig.    Thank god it was NOT the last article I read.http://codinginmysleep.com/interview-with-sonny-vleisides/
Congrats on the URGENT saturday delivery of the second (or maybe first BFL delivered product).
