Title: I accidentally opted to pay no fee. Now 96 BTC unconfirmed for 30hrs. Now what
Post by: yoyoceramic on April 20, 2013, 12:08:27 PM
Hi gang,

OK, OK yeah I messed up by not making sure I put a network fee onto this transaction: http://blockchain.info/tx/ad8949c50bfdeac35ca82c45b358acde01bf3930d747b900f67d367e8bb1655b

I sent it from my Android block chain app about 36 hours ago, and to my recollection it never warned me there was no fee on it.  Anyways, how can I make sure this gets picked up by a miner?  I'm growing a weee bit anxious, hehe.  The receiving address is a Gox address.

Thanks,

Mark

It will eventually get picked up by miners as the coins age

Not sure of the blockchain app abilities to remove transactions though...

I suggest you back up your wallet and reset your blockchain.  The transaction should disappear and the coins will reappear in your wallet.

What are you all talking about? Transactions are irreversible, remember?

They are only irreversable when sufficiently confirmed. I agree about backing up the private keys and re-spending them with a fee.

Transactions are only irreversible if they are in a block.

If he resets his blockchain then respends with a tx fee it should work.

Your transaction are irreversible, because they are written in the block history and everyone has this block saying "hey there was a transaction".
If it was never written there, it's like it never happened.

Sorry, I usually don't skim through threads and post running on so little sleep. I understand why the attempted transaction can still be cancelled.

If it was never written there, it's like it never happened.

Zero confirmations means its not in the block history .   I suggest you educate yourself before you lose a lot of money .

OP - glad it's sorted.

Although your way of saying it is a bit harsh,
sometimes you are just wrong and it's alright to say me that.
So let me check on this:
It's more like, because the priority of this order is so low, it will probably not be written in any block anytime soon. By reloading the old block chain, you are able to send it again with fee and this one will be accepte. If by coincidence the other transaction should be accepted in the meantime too the two different block chains would compete with each other, one wins and the money would end up according to the winnign block chain.

Did I get it right this time?

Sorry for the harsh tone.  Rebuke deserved, and accepted.  Apologies.

Your summary seems correct to me.

Also whenever you do something like this, you need to back up your wallet.  The change address from your original transaction is in that wallet, and if your original transaction happens to go through while you're messing about, you could lose your change.
