Title: just spitballing
Post by: chris56a on March 05, 2017, 10:00:09 PM
I wanted to setup a shopify store front and send out stupid meme related postcards or anything of that matter. In return send bitcoins at market price

postcard-30$ profit 28$
I would pay the 2.9%+.30cents
28$-2.9%-.30cents=$26.92profit

shopify would provide security for debit card transactions
and i can validate shipping so people couldn't try to gain bitcoins and reverse transactions

any comments or concerns you think i would encounter?

You might be kind of hard pressed to find a market for people willing to give you Bitcoin just to send memes to someone, but I guess it is possible to make money off of it.

The biggest thing I see here is that you're charging $30 for a postcard. Charge something like $5 or $10 with mail included and you might have some people interested in it.

While it's always better to make more money when possible, $30 for a postcard (resulting in $28 of profit) is going to be next to impossible to justify.

i see it as a beginning if the first transaction goes through then i can offer a discount code for further transactions and i can take larger orders and bigger quantity

Getting $28 profit from $30 postcards is a pretty solid business model. ;D
Your profit won`t be that high because you have to invest in advertising and drive some traffic to your shopify store.
Does Shopify accept bitcoin as a payment method? It would be great if they do.
I don`t  understand something.
You want to sell bitcoins and mask this as postcards selling or you want to sell postcards and get paid with bitcoins?

with the state of bitcoin as now, pengeriman postcard with bitcoin would be interesting if the post cards can redeem into bitcoin with some fee, and I agreed that if you use such efforts, but it will change your original concept, just a little my opinion .

My girlfriend buys postcards online, generally they cost $1 for normal cards, maybe a little more for arty or special cards.

$30 postcards will not sell! You could sell $30 meme T-shirts, but as you note yourself, postcards don't cost anywhere near to $30 to make, thus people won't pay that much for them.

I think popular memes are already printed on all sorts of suff, you would have be very upto date to get people. Assuming the postcards aren't hugely overpriced as you mentioned.

I don't know anyone dumb enough to pay $30 for someone to mail their friend a meme, it's just a wildly dumb service that isn't going to profit you in the least. I guess you didn't notice that people use phones, emails, social media, and so on. So you won't be getting any larger orders as the service is dumb and I would just avoid it entierly.

Going to second this, drop the price down and maybe do something original with how you present and you MAY (low chance) make some money off of it.
