What are in your opinion the most promising altcoins of 2017?

Never heared of UR but I thing you are right with ICN, Decent and ETH. I also would add GAME.

as always i have the giants in my basket. coins such as Litecoin, Monero, Dash, Ethereum.

but also at the same time the smaller coins give good returns:
Nexus, Komodo, ICN and a handful of others that i forget their names but i have some market watchers to find a good point of entry and exit .

i sort of agree with this list, but add dash coin, and HLM, with is a fork for spreadcoin, it's rising nicely as we speak and can shoot really high in the future, the project they are bringing look very promising with complete decentralization build in the client

It would be helpful if the posters would give reason as to why they feel the tokens would give good returns in 2017. As of now, DASH, MONERO and other altcoins have rallied. Bitcoin too has rallied on the hopes of ETF approval.

I would recommend ICN as it is a good platform for new people to invest into cryptos and they have just released the platform to some investors, it had a correction and now it seems to  consolidate before another price rally.

You can also look into DCT and SNGLS as they are also developing their respective platforms and can appreciate once they release the platforms. If you like to play safe, then keep these tokens in your watch list and enter once you feel they have proven their worth.

most people that post these things (not talking about posters here only) post them to add to the hype and help the pump that is why they don't really have any valid reason for what they say and they just say it.
also you usually don't need much reason for investing in an altcoin. you just need it to be on a rising spree to get in and enjoy the upward movement.

in this case I have enjoyed he Dash and Etherum rises and they really didn't have any reason for rise apart from pump. also I have investment in Monero and Litecoin. moneor because it is a good coin and it is THE anon coin and litecoin because I've got a gut feeling :)

My vote goes toward ICN!

They have their own index fund and in the future there will be open fund management platform.

I don't invest in most altcoins but I am heavily invested in Monero(XMR). Definitely look into it because I see no reason as to why it can't become at least valued for those who need the absolute privacy. Arrests have been happening and it is only a matter of time before the arrests are more common and people need the alternative.

Some people are betting on Dash shooting up but it's just a scam coin. If it does go up, sure you could make money, but I'm not wasting time with it. I don't think there is real potential for the coin because there are companies who rule them out since they know about the instamine and basically that it's a scam. Who knows if it will get pumped again, I'm not wasting my money on it though.

I am looking at all the cheap anon coins. DASH is rising fast now and it will be a matter of time before every body will release that it is expensive and look for the next DASH. It is a good opportunity to accumulate all the cheap anon coins and look at them flying when the whales pump them. I am currently looking at XMR and SDC and they should rise sharply soon.

when these coins are rising and price is already high and then you see everyone is talking about them you should know that it is already too late to get in and you are buying into the pump if you buy at that time. and you certainly don't buy it "cheap"!

but that never means you can not make profit from this market. there is still room for rise or even there is fluctuation that you can take advantage of and make some small but very fast profit.

if you really look for cheap coins, i think you can bought doge which is really cheap for now and you can hold it into your private wallet and you can waiting for next increase price. i think its not good idea to make stock for dash for now because the price is too high too buy and we do not know when they price will go up again or only getting down after this.

I absolutely agree with you. DOGE is kind of volatility resistant though it also suffers from BTC rise. It is too risky to invest in XMR or DASH now. Better to mine a lot of BCN coins on your PC and wait for a pump. You can get a good amount of BTC.

It is possible that the ZCash could rise a lot. It has not been pumped for some time. Whales are accumulating.

The most promising altcoins of 2017 are Ethereum, Monero and Dash. I like the instant transaction with Dash,
your time is valuable; instant payments and confirm in less than a second. I choose ETH because it follows BTC's progress and for me it is the number one altcoin.

Do they have a future?

Right now, I'm in:
NXS - I plan to hold it long term, new wallet is on the way and a big marketing campaign planned for summer, so it will go much much higher than it is now.
BAY - there is a big relase on Monday 22nd, so I xpect price to rise. ;)
EXP - something is happening, if you look on charts, it looks like big whales are gathering, so it's time to buy some coins now. 8)
FTC - I hold a few coins just in case it would pump suddenly, graphs recently showed some movement. ;) ;)

Too many preferences here but the truth is that lots of traders are trading ETH (with a volume of 70,000BTC within 24h only in poloniex), then DASH, ZEC and XMR. These are some of the top altcoins that are in the top of 2017. I only check the ETH price for the last 7 days and it's surprising how much has been increased and I hope that many people have made a huge profit since I didn't invested in ETH in the past unfortunately.

I like Stratis, the most profitable one released in last year. Now is still 10x of ICO, it is amazing performance, Stratis will go another 10x in this year.

Forget altcoins.

For long-term store of value, there is only Bitcoin.

That's not true at all, if you will visit coinmarketcap BTC dominance over altcoins is at all time low of 70.9%. Now that's something!

Sure, I can see where you are going with this point. But I think this will always be the case in uptrends. How about in the future when financial assets collapse (ie stocks, bonds, real estate, commodities) and bitcoin's price is pressured lower as well, how do you think altcoins will perform?

Do you think BTC dominance over altcoins will further diminish during such a downtrend.....or will it all of a sudden reverse and BTC dominance goes up?

Kinda like Las Vegas (or other international) real estate before 2007.

You are right, these are the most traded coins on the crypto market recently. On the other hand, their recent growth isn't anythin special in current circumstances. If you look on graphs of other alts, you'll see that almost all of them pumped at least a bit, some of them quite massively with +1000% growth and you could make a lot more profit on them than on ETH or other big alts.
What I want to say is that to diverse your trading also to some smaller alts isn't anything wrong and it can make you even more profit than to stay with only the big ones. Of course, you still have to follow the main rule - do some research before you invest your money into something. ;)
