Title: Philippines slams US drama for president's sexual advance
Post by: Kemarit on March 07, 2017, 08:42:32 AM
Manila on Tuesday "strongly protested" at an American television drama for showing a fictional Philippine president making a sexual advance on the US secretary of state.

In the trailer for the latest edition of "Madam Secretary", the lead character punches "the Philippines' unconventional new president" in the face and gives him a bloody nose in reaction to his unwanted pass.
s
"I clobbered a world leader instead of saving a major regional agreement," the secretary of state says.

The Philippine embassy in Washington released a statement saying it had written to the producers of the show, the CBS network, to urgently request it "take the necessary corrective actions"

I have never seen the trailer yet but looks like CBS is riding on the popularity of Pres Duterte
to get ratings on their show.

Well i don't think this has to be taken seriously. I mean hey obama and trump has been the subject of a lot of pranks and jokes in the past and the current and lets be honest, with the way the philippine president has been towards the usa, its no surprise that something like this would come up eventually.

I saw the trailer the actor doesn't look like President Duterte. The Philippines don't need to be angry on this one. The show is a work of fiction though nothing to take it seriously.

Did the Pope and Obama went on a tantrum when Duterte told them "fuck you"? No?  Well that's how the President should react to this, if he's mature enough. Heck, even Trump was OK with people impersonating him during the elections.

Seriously, this administration is quickly becoming more paranoid and reactive by the minute. We even had a local comedy show portray then President Arroyo as a midget for several episodes years ago without much of a reaction from Malacanan.

It seems to me that sometimes the showbiz and politicians are each other. Everyone wants to be promoted at the expense of the other and make ratings, and politicians still show what they are truth-loving.

It was just a satirical TV program. Why lose your sleep over it? And Trump is someone who enjoys a good personal relationship with Duterte. These silly issues are not going to damage their friendship.

I think president duterte should not be making any reaction on that, the world will see how onion skinned he is. Nothing is wrong with that, even other known personalities have those kinds of videos, it's more like an entertainment and not intended to annoy anyone.

Usually his fans will be the one to first to react to it.

In the Western nations, the politicians are frequently targeted by comedians. Remember what happened to Sarah Palin in 2008, when  she was on a VP ticket against Obama/Biden? The Hollywood oligarchs even made a porn video mocking her (Who's Nailin' Paylin?).
