I sent a transaction but didn't factor in the transaction fee, so the transaction is stuck, its awaiting confirmation but been like that for 30 hours already. I tried repairing the wallet (which is supposed to reset the blockchain) and now its saying the are 0 bitcoins in the wallet, but still no way to cancel the stuck transaction. How can I get the bitcoins back?

You should provide the transaction ID/link so we could help you out (kindly post an update to your first post on this thread with the link).

Keep trying to submit your transaction's ID to this website until it says acceleration succeeded. The website's overwhelmed with requests, so you will have to keep trying a few times an hour.
