Title: Your big brother can watch your every move, CIA vs wikileak
Post by: sekaiissobig on March 10, 2017, 01:20:27 PM
In short, wikileak mentioned that CIA can look every move if they intend to find your information.
WikiLeaks on Tuesday said it had obtained a secret trove of hacking tools used by the CIA to break into or circumvent the security of phones, communication apps and other devices, and published confidential documents describing those programs.

Among the most noteworthy WikiLeaks claims are that the Central Intelligence Agency, in partnership with other U.S. and foreign agencies, has been able to bypass the encryption on popular messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal, by hacking phones that use Google Inc’s Android platform to collect audio and message traffic before encryption is applied.

Reuters could not immediately verify the contents of the published documents, but several contractors and private cyber security experts said the materials, dated between 2013 and 2016, appeared to be legitimate.

But relax,

It is illegal for CIA to do those stuff right? and apple company says it fixed the bug.
Anyway, as one who don't do evil stuff will not become a target for CIA.

What's the CIA? All intelligence agencies around the world are trying to monitor the objects of strategic importance. We all know what trouble it is better to prevent than to deal with its consequences.

I am rather dissappointed about seeing the secret cyberwar arsenal of the U.S. floating around each and every circle of private individuals. As if they had placed their arsenal into plastik bags at street corners.
The agency has some serious security issue. I would almost stress that they ARE a serious issue themselfes.

Are other countries leaking their stuff? Hell no! They are most probably scraping over own development, awaiting the next gift leaking instead. Makes sense.

To combat terrorism, all the ways are good. Or you have the illusion that, for example, the FSB has such technology? Any gadgets are vulnerable and people just have to live with it.

It very hard to chose between 2 things in our lives, privacy and security.
It seems today, with so much terrorist attacks everywhere, that we need more security and less privacy.
If we wants more privacy it usually means less security because security service can't monitor all communication channels and find potential threats to our society.
Before 2001 we didn't have such dilemma and we was pride about our privacy and freedom.
Unfortunately, now we have to give up from our privacy in order to be safe.
Regarding this news, only important question is not if CIA can watch our every move (I'm sure they can do even more!), through popular messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal etc . but if they had legal permission for such action.

The problem is that in order to get official permission to listen to need to have evidence linking this man to terrorism, and how to do it? Easier to listen to all and choose from all the terrorists. I don't mind.

For the sake of security, you can build your ambitions and share your privacy. But this is only if no one abuses these opportunities and does not violate the right to privacy.

I have never believed in the encryption of whatsapp or telegram. The agencies with which CIA works has better means to decrypt such communication channels. The only true privacy tool we still have is TOR and even that can be decrypted sometimes.

Yes, I agree with you.
Many times in the past, our human rights was abused by authorities, so sometimes is hard to trust government or agencies again.
I think that independent, civil control is essential.
For the sake of our security we may give up freedom but we can't tolerate abuse of such collected info, and their illegal use.
It's sad that we live in such time when terrorist groups wants to destroy our way of life but we have no choice but to fight for what we believe in; freedom and democracy.

What are you saying? Who can now believe in privacy. From the CIA database hacked and your whatsapp especially. Relax. Don't break the law and you won't be of interest to intelligence agencies.

America gets the bad rap for all these surveillance but Russia and China could possibly be doing worse to their citizens. Welp, that's the price to pay for having democracy and free press. I just hope the spying they're doing to other countries is just as extensive as what they are doing to their citizens. If I'm American and it's not, then I'd be pissed coz apparently the citizens that generate the wealth is treated more as an enemy than foreign powers.

You might be of interest to criminals if you are rich or famous though.

FSB can simply reuse the CIA technology. It's available all over the internet by now. Epic fail, their housekeeping blundered. This is an unacceptable outcome!

Even if the CIA has that kind of technology the citizens of America has nothing to worry about that kind of system as long as they are not the threat to the community and doing illicit and criminal activities.  But that is bad news to other countries especially to the countries that are having a bad relationship with America. But this is not a new thing for us this was happening even before and only exposed right now.

Intelligence agencies of all countries monitor their citizens and foreigners. For me this is not news. Let the next thing that illegally obtained evidence is not admissible in court.

I dont think the CIA was able bypass the security of these apps, I for one am sure that the companies that started these apps are funded but the CIA and other Espionage agencies so that they could know whatever is going on, In the name of Security, we are being of robbed of our Privacy. Am sure thats why Nokia failed and the emergence of the smartphone all so that they can spy on us easily.

While I despair at the erosion of our civil liberties, I just can't agree that Nokia was suppressed in order to promote smartphones, so that the government could hack them easier. Maybe, just maybe, it was a bit easier to hack a dumb phone with no encryption, back in a time where we didn't even have proper electronic surveillance laws on the books, and the government could pretty much do what it wanted?

And you do know they are remaking and rereleasing the original 'bar of soap' Nokia as we speak?

You gotta, you know, unparanoid just a touch.
