Title: Block with only 1 transaction? Post by: Jazzer on April 21, 2013, 02:10:31 PM Hey guys,
I'm kinda new to BTC, and some things are unclear even after some reading. I kept the blockchain page open, and noticed that block 232424 was mined by Eligius, and the subsequent block 232425 only has the initial transaction of 25 mined bitcoins in it and is immediately also mined by Eligius. Does this happen often? Doesn't that break the whole concept of mining? How did they immediately find the next block? So many questions.. Thanks! Title: Re: Block with only 1 transaction? Eligius could be running multiple boxes with bitcoind on them, with a slightly different clokcs on them. or it could be that Eligius did not mine the block. Title: Re: Block with only 1 transaction? Post by: DannyHamilton on April 22, 2013, 01:21:15 AM - snip - it could be that Eligius did not mine the block. ^^ this ^^ Blockchain.info does not know who mined any blocks. They only know who relayed the block to them. The information provided on their website even says "Relayed by" not "mined by". There is nothing in the protocol that requires timestamps to increase with every block. There is also nothing in the protocol that requires the miner to include any more transactions than the block reward. |
