Title: Should I buy Asic?
Post by: SFMinter on March 12, 2017, 02:49:37 PM
I'm new in mining and I would love so increase my Hashrate.

I'm thinking about buying a new ASIC Usb.

Do you think it will be worth it?

In terms of increasing the hashrates from GPU rigs, it's a step up but not worth the investment since in most cases, you won't be getting back the amount your going to pay (for a USB mining equipment) in a long time.
It would be a great piece of equipment, if your going to use it for fun (but that's it).

Update:
So, we could say that the only way to earn money mining is to have a HUGE mine site? like a factory?
Not necessarily a huge mining site but to have couple of thousands worth of investments (in order to have a significant earnings since electricity rates come into factor as well and don't forget, earnings could even turn into unexpected expenses if you don't calculate everything prior to doing it).

USB ASICs aren't the only way to mine efficiently.
You could buy something like an Antminer. Electricity cost ($/kWh) and how much you'll be able to get it for will device if it will be worth it or not.

Definitely no. If you are learning mining, you can understand it with just the hardware of your actual computer. I don't recommend to invest in hardware that will never get ROI, it's way better to just buy btc directly.

What if I raise money and start a big farm?https://ibb.co/kknymF https://ibb.co/kknymF

I did a budget for a farm with 10 Antminer s9 (2.606 $ each, cables included tot. 26.060 $)
other expenses are electricity (1200 $ per month tot. 14.400 $ per annum), 4 fans (25 $ each tot. 100$), rent (200 $ per month tot. 2.400 $ per annum) and a contigency fund (200$ per month tot. 2.400 per annum)

If one Antminer s9 mine 0,5 BTC per motnh that means 5 BTC per month in total and 60 BTC per annum in total.
At the current excanghe rate (12.000 $ per 1BTC) the income is estimated at 72.000 $.

The net income would be 26.640$ (Income minus Expenses).

The fascinating fact is that bitcoin can grow in value from 1.200 $ to 10.000 $ maybe in 5 to 10 year.

What do you think? Is it right the budget?

You need to take the rising network difficulty into account.

Yes, that must be take into difficulty. Do you have facebook so we can discuss?

Probably able to understood the process with CPU mining even, yes, but on the other side getting a used AntMiner U1 from Ebay just for some hands on experience costs almost nothing besides postage and packing. That U1 has been 30 dollars on release date. That fun should be doable on a ten dollars budget.
Better than torturing the GPU

Some reading material from the BTC Wiki https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison and even more historical https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Non-specialized_hardware_comparison

You can try this btc calculator https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator
It allows you to plug in all the variables for your specific situation, including a network difficulty increase.

Yes, buy an asic...or multiple really. They are a great investment if you do your research.

Don't pay ebay prices though, get them new from creators or discounted here.
