Title: Running SegWit node
Post by: adam440 on March 19, 2017, 12:45:59 PM
Hello,
I recently downloaded Bitcoin Core 0.14 and I want to run a pro-SegWit node. How can I do that? I know that with Bitcoin Core 13 you have to download version 13.1, but there's no version 14.1, so how does one vote for SegWit on a full node? I understand that miners vote, not nodes, however, I think it's important to at least help SegWit by running the pro-SegWit node.

PS: Please don't talk here about BU vs SegWit, my question is just about running SegWit node. Period.

You don't need to do anything as far as I know, upgrading to 0.13.1 or any other SegWit compatible version (this include 0.13.2 and 0.14.0) should be enough. At least, this is what I understood from this article: https://bitcoincore.org/en/2016/10/27/segwit-upgrade-guide/

Yes, just running bitcoin core 0.13.1 or later is enough unless you're mining.

As a side-note to what's already been suggested.
It's useful to note that segwit isn't yet in use (as far as I know)  as there is not the majority node adoption that is needed for this change of the network.
