Title: Kraken, MtGox
Post by: soy on March 22, 2017, 05:15:38 PM
Okay, so rereading the trustee's statement I see that if I want my payout in BTC I must have an account with Kraken.  Don't know how I missed that previously except for my ADD worsening in my decline.

I don't see a mechanism for informing the trustee of my new Kraken account.  Is one to assume something like an email address comparison will be conducted?  I'd think they'd want more than that.

Heck, I paid taxes on those bitcoins and never claimed loss on tax returns.

Vulgarity doesn't always win.  What can you surmise from subject and message?

It's in reference to a bitcoin give-away site dating back to the beginning.

I think he's saying that he was once a person that used MtGox and lost money, which led him to attempt to get some of his money back (after the hack) which was being done through Kraken. The thing here is that he would like the money to be in Bitcoin and he doesn't seem to have a Kraken account in order to allow him to get the Bitcoin from them? I'm going to guess thats what you're trying to say here?

I don't think it'd be that hard to setup a Kraken account and it would be worth it to get your bitcoin. Though you should probably claim those bitcoins as a loss until you get them back as you'd be able to save some money on your tax returns.

Yes.  I lost 11.8+btc.  Therefore the quip about MtGox giving away free-be's.  And yes, I did open an account with Kraken.  I also considered that others may have misread the MtGox trustee statement when it was issued as I did.  Skimming through it, I somehow left with the idea that Kraken was some sort of extra legal action (my meaning additional legal action not extralegal).  Giving it a better read today I saw it was not.  But, it also could be that if others with accepted claims checked the box for btc payout rather than currency, but also didn't join Kraken, the conundrum that btc payment can only be via Kraken could slow things down for all of us that are due recompense.

On a silver lining note, the sub-1k btc price this morning means that if the bankruptcy payout were to happen today there would be more btc, albeit worth a little less, but I expect btc to generally head upwards over time relative to fiat.

Hi - I work for Kraken and manage our thread on the Exhanges board. We don't know when this will happen, but at some point you will be asked to confirm with the trustee that you want your payout in BTC and at that time there will be a way for you to link to your Kraken account for the payout. So, for now there's nothing more to do except follow the updates from the trustee and wait for the payout step to finally happen.
