Title: Question about how much power to give a powered riser
Post by: coinbeast on March 24, 2017, 09:50:37 AM
Hi everyone,

I bought these risers,

I want to know if I can power them with these, but only using one of the two 4 pin molex's.

In hindsight I should have bought the 4 pin molex risers instead of these 6 pin ones. 6 pins seems a bit overkill to me.

One 4pin molex should be enough to power one PCIE slot. But you cannot connect more than two from a single cable.

I have connect two Molex Risers from one cable with my PSU. It works.

Thanks, I ended up making some cables that split one pcie into 3 pcie so I can power 3 risers from one pcie plugged into the PSU (EVGA 1200w)

For the old cards like R9 390 or R9280x, you can connect more than two.
