Just curious incase anyone on here, is here for something other than Bitcoin.

I'm trying to avoid Litecoin since I know the difficulty is going way up due to the amount of ASIC's in existence so I've been mining Feathercoin for about 24hours and since the difficulty of that just doubled, I'm getting about 60 a day.

When I get my own rig built I plan on mining Litecoin, or incase the difficulty is to high maybe PPC it has a pretty interesting model behind it in the long term.

If you're serious about getting a return on investment, Litecoin is the way to go.

Do you mean from a mining standpoint or from a growth potential standpoint?

I suppose that i use namecoin a bit but that's only because i get it along with my main mining of bitcoins

I personally view all the alt coins from a mining point of view, I don't understand there use other than competition to BTC otherwise.

I'm conflicted, two years ago i saw bitcoin, tried solo mining for a few days, didn't get anything, then proceeded to give up. fast forward to present and I'm kicking myself that I didn't jump in sooner. Now for some reason, I'm looking at these alternative currencies with the same apprehension that I had given bitcoin. Am I making the same mistake again? I don't know. With bitcoin already in place the only reason that I see litecoin etc. around for is so people who missed out on bitcoin can get in early on something else. Damn things are worth 2-5$ atm. Shoulda woulda coulda?

As a side note, does the fact that there are so many virtual currencies diminish what bitcoin is trying to do? At the rate we are going everyone is going to have their own currency... Hey, i'll trade you 1 of my lewicki's for 2 of your Fife's.

I too am torn. Trying to spread it all around. I am placing bets on Bitcoins. More exposure.

FC, just sounds nice, a lot out their and people are buying. Could become the alt to LTC.

PPC.  Long-term this is a great idea.  Other than that, I think faster confirms are great, so LTC.

AFAIK there are no ASICs for LTC because of scrypt, it's more about memory and just straight calculations.

Most of the people in this thread clearly have an interst in their reasoning.

litecoin, trollbox says that mtgox adding them

because anyone can create a new currency there is the risk that the market will get saturated, but I guess as happened with coke and pepsi or mac and microsoft, there is always space for more than one big fish. I would try to particeipete in the next 2 o 3 new currencys, starting with litecoin.

There is something about feathercoin that feels good. Maybe its the potential?

LTC because i like scrypt mining and its worth more than feathercoin

Although I don't have any yet, I think the most viable alt-coin so far is litecoin. It's the only one besides BTC that you can use to purchase goods right now.

I find the hardest part is getting real money into these exchanges to purchase the alt currency

I'm btc and ltc for now but am not sure which one is realistically the next viable option to hold for long term.

I'm LTC and FC atm, really like FC's - Kinda worried about LTCs with the difficulty going up as much as it has recently

In Canada there is something called Mintchip.  Started in 09 with the idea of a platform for digital transactions.  There is ongoing contests asking the public to provide ideas, apps, etc.  rewarding those who participate with gold bullions. 

I use to do btc for awhile, then ltc, now im going to fc just for fun, im using my laptop to mine stuff, its darn slow haha

I converted most of my bitcoins into litecoins just before the big spike, now mining feathercoin but not getting much. I've seen people having 100k FC already. I only have 30.

My only suggestion is: make it decentralized.

I like Litecoin because it is #2.

Novacoin because it is proof of stake and scrypt

I would not recommend mining with a laptop. 100% CPU usage will kill it quite shortly
